How to have script run after kernel changed
by Arch Willingham
Is there any way to get a script to run automatically after the computer reboots following a kernel change? For example, when yum runs and a new kernel gets installed, I usually reboot and then run a script that enables some devices that don't work with a new kernel until the script has run. That's all fine and dandy for me to do but as I setup more and more users with Fedora (vs. windows), its an area that they find confusing and I'd like to keep them out of the loop with respect to having to remember to run the script if the kernel has changed.
Does that make sense?
Thanks!

Missing recent F7 updates ?
by Marco Maccaferri
Hi.
Anybody was able to download the F7 updates announced on 03/26 ?
Seems that none of the mirrors have these updates, including the main
fedora download site (download.fedora.redhat.com) which seems suspicious.
Regards,
Marco.

Recommended USB TV Capture
by Nicholas Robinson
Hi
I have a good wireless camera that generates video/audio, but since I upgraded
my motherboard, there's nowhere to plug my old tv capture card in (you can
tell my hardware knowledge is limited!!!)
Rather than buy another card, I was wondering about using one of these usb tv
capture devices that you see lurking seductively on the impulse sections of
the racks at PC World or wherever. Are they any good? Do any of them work
with Fedora 8? Is there a big difference in quality even though there isn't a
huge difference in price? Is there a specific one that someone knows works?
Thanks for any advice.

Anyone has the same problem? After upgrading to 2.0.0.13-1.fc8 and
reboot the machine,
I cannot start firefox anymore. But before rebooting, I can start it.

New motherboard ethernet interface
by Chris Kottaridis
I had a Dell machine and the motherboard went belly up. So, I took my
machine to a local Computer shop and the basically gave me a new chassis
and motherboard, but kept my disk drives. Things are mostly working, but
it, or rather me, seem to be a little bit confused about the on board
ethernet.
I have the on-board ethernet and an add-on card. During boot I see this
message:
tg3 device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.
Looking at dmesg I get the following:

The RealTek RTL8139 is my add-on card and the r8168b/8222b id the new
on-board ethernet.
Doing an ifconfig -a shows:

I am a little confused about udev remapping eth0 to eth1 and eth1 to
eth2. Why isn't there an eth0 ?
On my old motherboard I had the on-board ethernet come up as eth0 and
the add-on board come up as eth1.
I can actually bring up the eth2 interface which seems to be the
on-board ethernet, at least I can ping addresses on that network:

So, how do I get Linux to recognize the new motherboard's ethernet card

The only way I could fix my gnome problems was to blow away $HOME/.gconf
and reconstruct my settings. This is the 4th time that gconf gets corrupted and
it happens from time to time.

You can get it by right clicking on a panel and use the Ad to panel
option.
I have found that the personal Settings->Sessions has the settings to start
the gnome-volume-manager, and the current sessions shows that it is
"included", however the icon fails to appear.
I looked into the message (log) file and I wonder if the following is related
on logging in:

It appears that polkit or pulseaudio is not working?

mount.cifs Example please?
by Sean Bruno
I would humbly ask that someone, somewhere add an entry in the examples
section that acutally shows a successful command for mount.cifs ... The
man page (at least for me) didn't really tell me how to use the command
correctly. The program itself takes different argument types on
invocation than other mount.xxxx commands.
So suggestion:
EXAMPLES:
sudo mount -t cifs -o
user=administrator,password=miralink //192.168.1.31/test /mnt/ml_test/
With an explanation of what each option means.
