Hey buddy what does it mean...? Does packaging software for Fedora mean that
we didn't get the real flavor of that software but a censored/edited one?

A provider, Rsop Planning Mode Provider, has been registered in the WMI

provider will be run using the LocalSystem account. This account is
privileged and the provider may cause a security violation if it does not
correctly impersonate user requests. Ensure that provider has been reviewed
for security behavior and update the HostingModel property of the provider
registration to an account with the least privileges possible for the
required functionality.

Adaptec 2015S installation woes - Fedora 8
by Mark J. Hughes
We're trying to upgrade a server that had been faithfully running
Fedora Core 5 with an Adaptec 2015-S card - 3 15k scsi drives in a
raid-5 config - to Fedora 8. I recall during my initial install in
FC5, I had to boot up with "linux install noprobe" and then manually
load in i2o_block in order to see the drives. After install, all was
well.
This go around, F8 doesn't see the i2o device by default, which is ok.
But running "linux install noprobe" and then manually loading in
i2o_block causes a kernel panic (or similar looking output). The
install process dies right then and there, no recovery possible, and
its game over.
I can't find any F7/F8 bugs related to this, but I found:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=189570
Which points to
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6561
Which seems to think the issue is fixed, but nonetheless, we're hosed
here.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

How to configure my server to set "ulimit -n 16384"
by thomas Armstrong
Hi.
I'd like to configure my "ulimit" and change the value:
--------
ulimit -n 16384
--------
It works perfectly if I type it on the shell, but it doesn't work if I
write it within a shell script (/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd) or within
'/etc/rc.local'
The idea is changing it each time the server starts. Any suggestion?

bluetooth 2.0 is extremely slow
by Michael Cronenworth
Hi all,
I've lived with slow transfer speeds long enough. Ever since I purchased
an ASUS Bluetooth 2.0+EDR USB adapter it has always taken *minutes*
instead of *seconds* to transfer files from my cell phone to my computer
and vice versa.
Fedora 8, latest updates.
Nokia N95-1, latest firmware.
Both are Bluetooth 2.0+EDR devices.
It took *40 seconds* to transfer a 1 megabyte picture. I timed this with
'watch -n 1 date' for grins, so I can't give you nanosecond numbers, but
even a rough estimate shows that transfer speeds are *abysmal* and need
to be addressed. Ideally it should be taking less than 10 seconds to
transfer the same image file on a true 2.0+EDR setup. I have two
different computers with the same Asus adapter. Same speeds.
I saw someone fixed this by forcing larger MTUs.

Before modifying the OpenOBEX sources, I posted a message on their
board, but I haven't heard anything yet. Does anyone have any experience
with this?
Thanks,
Mike

OT? port forwarding help
by Dave Stevens
Hi,
I need to set up a web server in a place where there are two routers between
it and by broadband connection. The routers are cheap domestic units and
different brands and models. I don't understand port forwarding well enough
to be sure inbound http packets get to the right machines. Can anyone refer
me to a good tutorial or reference on the topic?
Many thanks,
Dave

There is no single government agency that views sustainability through a broad
lens, taking into account the values of the people affected by government
decisions. Any model of sustainability that is driven solely by an economic
engine is deficient if it is incapable of taking into account social values.

Program crashes after today's F8 updates
by mike cloaked
Has anyone had any crashes of programs after todays updates (including to
2.6.24.3-50.fc8) ?
Earlier I had Thunderbird (stock version) mysteriously crash for no reason and
vanishes from the KDE desktop. Restarting was not a problem. A few minutes ago
I was using Acroread and asked it to print a file - it immediately crashed and
again there is no information in the logs.
Very weird - and this has never happened to me before today.
Just interested if anyone else has any similar experience today?

Installing OpenOffice from OpenOffice Website
by Rick Bilonick
Has anyone tried installing OpenOffice from the OpenOffice website
(rather than using the Fedora version)? I have the Fedora 8 version
installed but would like to go back to using the non-Fedora version. In
the past, I have always run into problems installing the non-Fedora
version (but could always get it running). I would appreciate hearing
peoples' current experiences and recommendations.
