X11 or Wayland session prompt on GDM?
by Frederic Muller
Hi!
I did that in the past and can't find how to do it again. Being
searching the web and except forcing either type of session and logging
out and back in I haven't found any other way.
Does anyone know if it's still possible and how to do it?
Thank you.

NFS authentication(?) error
by Ian Pilcher
Is there an RFC somewhere that requires NFS errors to be completely
opaque?
* 2 Fedora 33 systems on the same subnet (172.31.248.0/24).
* NFS client is 172.31.248.2; NFS server is 172.31.248.3
* /etc/exports on server contains
/srv/upscale_data
172.31.248.0(rw,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash,insecure)
$ sudo mount -vvvv -t nfs4 172.31.248.3:/srv/upscale_data /mnt/upscale
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Thu Feb 25 18:16:45 2021
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=172.31.248.3,clientaddr=172.31.248.2'
mount.nfs4: mount(2): Permission denied
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4,minorversion=1,addr=172.31.248.3,clientaddr=172.31.248.2'

mount.nfs4: trying text-based options

mount.nfs4: mount(2): Permission denied
mount.nfs4: access denied by server while mounting
172.31.248.3:/srv/upscale_data
Wireshark shows that the client is sending:
Credentials
Flavor: AUTH_UNIX (1)
...
UID: 0
GID: 0
And the server responds with:
Reject State: AUTH_ERROR (1)
Auth State: bad credential (seal broken) (1)
The server is logging ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the journal, dmesg, or
anywhere else (as far as I can tell).
Any ideas how I can figure out what is going on?

Fedora 33 vs Mageia 8
by David
I am curious what the similarities are between Fedora 33 and the newly
released Mageia 8, and what the differences are.
Today's release announcment of Mageia 8, alleges that it ships with three
repositories, one of which is disabled. One of their repos contains
non-free stuff, and can be disabled. The disabled one contains the
controversial codecs which may be illegal in your country.
I recall someone suggesting that Mageia can ship their iso that way because
tjey are in France.
I do believe that the developmemt team at Mageia is only about 30
volunteers.
From my perspective, they do not use third-party repos. Right ?
I assume Mageia's core repo is not as up-to-date as Fedoras.
I assume Mageia 8 is way behind Fedora 34 Beta.
It would seem to me, that if a user prefers LXDE, or LXQt, or Mate or Xfce
or a window-manager, that it would not matter what distro you choose.
I do not think Mageia has Budgie DE.
Mageia only offers one iso, where as Fedora has custom isos. Right ?
Meaning, in order to get Mageia 8 LXQt, you must first install Mageia 8.
I think a newbie could learn on Mageia 8 and then later on learn to prefer
Fedora. Right ?
I assume they do not use anaconda as their instllaler, but have something
that the old Mandriva had.
Feel free to enlightmemt me.
Cheers,
David Locklear

FAS login issue
by alan@clueserver.org
I created a Fedora FAS account a long while back. I cannot find the
account name I used and there seems to be no way to find it. The password
reset assumes you know what account name you used.
Who do I talk to to get this fixed?

New kernel errors after last update, Fedora 33
by Jerome Lille
After the latest update there are some errors in the log that I haven't
seen before.
kernel: xs_tcp_setup_socket: connect returned unhandled error -107
There are two of those per minute continuously. I haven't noticed any
other problems with the system, but wondering about those messages are
about.

capture system audio?
by Tom Horsley
I'm playing a video in firefox and want to capture the audio.
There are a maze of web pages about audio capture, all different.
None of the ones I've tried work. They all give the impression they
are capturing audio, but the resulting audio files are nothing
but silence.
Has anyone successfully captured audio from firefox on fedora 33?

midco DNS corruption?
by Michael Hennebry
Whenever I mistype a URL,
it gets turned into food for Midcontinent's search engine.
What is really annoying is that the back
button does not take me back to what I typed.
Also, the search results rarely includes the site I wanted.
My suspicion is that this is done at least partly through DNS corruption.
Anyone know for sure?
I'm running F33 connected directly to Midco's modem/router.
Assuming DNS corruption is at least part of the issue,
how, if at all, do I bypass Midco's DNS?
The problem seems not unique to Midco or F33:
My girlfriend has the same problem with CenturyLink and Ubuntu.
They send her to yahoo.

Weird graphics errors with recent kernels
by Patrick O'Callaghan
The last 2 or 3 kernel updates seem to have triggered a regression in
the i915 (internal Intel GPU) driver. I get damaged screen updates,
very noticeable tearing on videos and occasional freezes in the DE
(Plasma under X11). A look at the journal shows:

Unfortunately I'd rebooted before looking at the journal, so
/sys/class/drm/card0/error is currently empty. I'll capture it next
time around, but it the meantime has anyone else seen this?
