RAGE XL Framebuffer
by Yanick Quirion
Hi all
I know that is not a specific question about Fedora, but I can't find answer on the kernel mailing list.
Is somebody having server with integrated ATI RAGE XL video card? Is it possible to patch the kernel to support this video card? If I add VGA=791 in my grub.conf, I will have a resolution of 1024x768 which is good, but the display is very slow (especially when the screen is scrolling). If I use I this: "video=aty128fb:1024x768@70" it will not work. I'm using kernel 2.4.22 but I will try 2.6.0-test11 today.
If somebody has a patch, a link or anything else that can help me, it will be appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,

Soundblaster
by Antonio Montagnani
I have two similar PC (old Pentium but workin fine)
In Pc no.1 I upgraded from RH8 to Fedora and it went fine: Soundblaster
is working fine
In Pc no.2 I made a fresh installation but in redhat-sound-config Fedora
doesn't see any card, that was working on Redhat 9 after soundconfig...
Where is the trick?? I assume that my Sounblaster is an old 16...but
fine on a router/firewall.
Tnx

Yum on x86_64
by Gareth Bult
Hi,
I seem to have (finally :) ) acquired a complete(ish) / working x86_64
system .. but I'm still having trouble with a few bits, not least "yum".
I get;
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Released Updates
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Unreleased Updates
Finding updated packages

File "clientStuff.py", line 363, in getupdatedhdrlist
File "clientStuff.py", line 409, in bestversion

[root@squizzey oddjob]#
(This is a modified system [2.6.0-test11] however it seems to run well)
Pointing it at mozilla's channel for SeaMonkey seems to work if I
disable the default channels, however...
Anyone any ideas ?
(I was sort of expecting to see it say "no x86_64 updates supported yet"
as opposed to a complete crash)
Also, can yum pull SRPMS and rebuild them ?

Hello everyone. I have a problem I was hoping someone could help me
with. When I try to boot my Fedora CD I get this message
ISOLINUX 2.06 2003-08-22 isolinux: disk error 01, AX = 4293, 9F
I have no idea what it means or what to do. Any help that someone could
give me would be appreciated.

Dell Latitude D600 touchpad problem
by mikko nuotio
I have Dell Latitude D600, 512MB/1.4 GHz/ATI Radeon 9000/Alps GlidePoint
(might be only sold in EU). The problem is I _really_ dislike Alps
GlidePoint (dual, pad and stick) tapping feature.
I am using Fedora core 1 (yarrow) with default Xfree86 shipped with it,
and kernel 2.4.22-2135
I want to disable tapping from both stick and pad (or disable the pad)
I have tried almost every possible way to disable it(I have read most of
tuxmobile stuff for D600).
tpconfig - I disable gpm, boot to runlevel 3 run manually "tpconfig
--tapmode=0" it says ALPS tapping OFF, but when I start X tapping is
still there, even using any existing mouse driver (PS/2, Alps).
Does "tpconfig --tapmode=0" only affect on stick ?
I also try synaptics touchpad driver for xfree86 (I had to compile it).
but xfree will crash if driver not even loaded, only copied to
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input (not 100% sure) at least it will crash is
it is loaded.
So I read more documentation and found out that when using synaptics
driver with Alps glidepoint I should have 2.6 kernel to get events from
this device.
So is there any way disable Alps tapping with current kernel
(2.4.22-2135)?

ATI All In Wonder --- Has anyone gotten TV capture to work?
by FearOfCarpet
I was wondering if anyone has gotten an ATI All in Wonder RADEON's TV
capabilities working in Fedora? There is a lot of information on the net
about this, but I haven't seen much for the RedHat distros. Apparently I
had it working in Debian, but KDE broke before I could really use it and
I ended up wiping Debian and installing Fefora on that machine. I'm
really only after being able to watch live TV off the S-Video input...
Any info would be appreciated- TIA

HD Noise
by Carter J. Castor
I have a Dell Inspirion Laptop. The hard drive is very quite all day;
however, when I leave it idle at night, it starts spinning like crazy.
I would turn it off; however, I use KAlarm as my alarm clock so it sits
by my bed on my desk all night. I was wondering what would cause it to
suddenly make so much noise and how I could fix it.

please recommend a video capture card
by Mick M.
Hello list;
I am running Fedora Core 1 on an older Athlon K7 650/256MB Nvidia
gforce2 mx 400 box. (very nice btw)
My daughter is in the USAf stationed in Japan, she haa an athlon XP
3200/512 MB with ATI video and Viewsonic 15" lcd monitor.
She runs XP pro.
She has a very limited personal storage space and does not have
physical room for a TV set.
What I want to do is buy her a decent video capture card and a VCR.
Then she can watch TV/Video tapes on her computer.
As well as run her video camera into it (VHS) - no firewire or usb on
the camera.
She already has a DVD drive and CDRW on her system.
I do not run XP and want to test the hardware and maybe duplicate it on
my system before I ship it to her.
What video capture card would you recommend?
thanks
Mick M.

clearing out /tmp safely
by Matt Hansen
Hi guys
I would like to clean out my /tmp partition as per the tip at
http://fedoranews.org/krishnan/tips/tip014.shtml. However, just one small
query. Is there any folders/files in the /tmp directory that shouldn't be
deleted? My /tmp currently contains directories such as gconfd-root,
kde-root, ksocket-root, lost+found, mcop-root, a number of ssh-*, and
files such as crxmlqWMLkc, a number of libGL.la-*, sockets such as
mapping-root,..etc.
Will all these entries safely be recreated when needed? Just a
precautionary measure; I realise it is after all a "temporary" directory!
