Recreating /var/lib/rpm/Packages?
by Vladimir G. Ivanovic
Is there a way of recreating the RPM "fPackages" file from the other
RPM database files? (`rpm --rebuilddb' merely creates a version with
no packages in it.)
I managed to delete my only copy, and I'd prefer not to have to
download and
rpm -ivh --justdb --nodeps --noscripts --notriggers
each RPM in named in /var/log/rpmpkgs.
Thanks.

Re: Portmap compilation problem
by Peter Gordon
With all due respect, is there some specific reason that you can't use
the portmap RPM from the standard repository?
As root, you can run `yum install portmap`. As a matter of fact, you may
already have it installed (if this is the case, Yum will report that
there is nothing to install).

I see,
I just insert a option to "InputDevice" section in my 'xorg.conf' as
following:
Section "InputDevice"
...
Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
...
EndSection
That's all. All keys are working properly now.(I'm happy! :-) )
Don't need to modify keymap files.
I guess someone missed this line while packing xorg-X11 packages.

How to assign Firefox download with wget?
by Strong
I want that all my downloads from firefox be done by wget - as trusty
one, and able to continue those done in part. At other hand, firefox
downloads are broken very often...

FC4 PPC Cannot remount boot
by Rizado
I have installed Fedora Core 4 PPC on my PowerMac 466. First the fstab
was a mess. Alot of strange symbols and stuff. I made a new one but if i
try to use
LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
I get "fsck.ext3: Unable to resolv 'LABEL=/' " I tried
e2label /dev/hda3 /
and reboot but it doesn't work. If I use
/dev/hda3 / ext3 defaults 1 1
It says that root cannot be remounted as readwrite and then it continues
in Read-Only and refuses to start. I have done everything through rescue
mode on the install disc.

Problem printing
by Bob Taylor
I am running FC3 and using Tex for letters and other documents I write.
I have found that the top margin is totally ignored and all printing
seems to be at the top of the page. If I want a 54pt top margin, the
beginning of the page is at the top. If I use the default 1 inch top
margin and 1 inch left margin, then the left margin is 1.5 inch and the
top is 1.05. If I set all margins including the hard ones, then I get
the same 1.5 inch margins. I am using a HP DeskJet 694C printer. It
seems *something* is ignoring the top margin setting. I have changed the
settings via system-config-printer without any change. I have used the -
o page-top=54 option to lpr without any change. I have used the -O x,y
option of dvips without any change. I have used this same printer
running Red Hat 6.2 on this same computer before I installed FC2 on it,
without this problem so it is *not* the printer. I have not found what
or where these margins are set!
Does this ring a bell with anyone? I am at a total loss!

Can't type in Gnome in FC4 after yum update
by SternData
I just did an update in FC4 and picked up all the new X11 stuff. When I
boot into Gnome and open a terminal session, gedit, or other application
like that, I can't type. The cursor doesn't move and no letters appear
on screen.
I can type in the login box to get logged in, and I can type when I need
to use a root level application. However, that's about all.
If I switch to KDE, everything operates normally.
Is anyone experiencing anything like this?
