system-config-display won't accept root password at boot
by Kenneth Porter
FC4-i386, latest updates.
When I upgrade my kernel and reboot, the system attempts to run
system-config-display during startup, and this prompts for the root
password. I type that in but it's apparently not recognized, as I just get
another prompt. After 3 failures, the system boots normally. I think this
happening during the udev initialization.
I'm using the latest nVidia driver for my 6800GT.

FC3-kernel bug? Mount: can't find /media/floppy in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
by Bengt Lindholm
My mail went.. who knows where, so here is a new try:
The last kernel, that was able to mount a floppy was kernel-
smp-2.6.11-1.35_FC3. With kernel-smp-2.6.12-* I get the following
warning: mount: can't find /media/floppy in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab. How
to get my floppy-device to work without some editing every time after rebooting?

Regexp for RPM package name, given its file name?
by Vladimir G. Ivanovic
Is there a regexp that will pick out the name of an RPM package, given
its file name?
The shell command
egrep -o "^[^.]*-" /var/log/rpmpkgs
does a pretty good job, but includes part of the version with packages
that use numbers without periods (see below).
Thanks.

I'm not too sure about pysol but if you have the time you can always
create your own repository:
yum install rpm-build createrepo
It's not just as easy as that but its a good start

It depends on what you're looking to do, for example clamav has a
repository at http://crash.fce.vutbr.cz/crash-hat/$releasever

Recent connection problems that I have had with Azureus had nothing to
do with the firewall and more to do with multiple version of java
installed on the same system.
Azureus should run and connect even incoming ports are blocked ... it
just won't run very quickly. If it is running on some old Java Runtime
Engines (JRE) it will start but then it will have a connection errors
when trying to connect to the tracker and the torrent won't start
properly. Other than that it seemed to be running fine.
My problem was resolved by noticing that there were multiple versions of
java installed and that the /usr/bin/java symlink was not pointing to
the new one and still pointing to the old one.
The main java stuff gets installed to a directory
/usr/java/<jre_version>/ (don't quote me on that though since I don't
have my system in front of my to check) and /usr/bin/java just points to
the java executable in that directly tree.
- Download the lastest JRE from Sun and install it.
- Uninstall all the old JRE
- Correct the link by removing the old /usr/bin/java and remaking using
the command "ln -s <location of the new java executable> /usr/bin/java"
Just giving you something else to try. I keep around the python
bittorrent client included in the yum repository just as a backup (see
instructions on that just before the instructions regarding Azureus on
that link you quoted). It is much simpler and less flexible but is
really quite good. Useful when you are trying to troubleshoot whether it
is your firewall that is causing you grief or java.
