I never did get iwlwifi working well. I ended up switching to the old ipw3945 driver.

there and then boot so that the iwl3945 is then as simple as ipw2200 in another
laptop with F7.
Does anyone have iwl3945 working well and consistently with F7?
If so a few success stories would inspire my confidence in doing the F7 install
on this machine (I run F7 on every other machine I am looking after none of
which use the 3945 card!)

i810 on Dell latitude D505 broken w/o

Odd problem developed between FC6 and FC7 (Along with my favorite little
ACPI issue). Strange artifacts at the top of the screen:

I have no pointer and I get this garbage....EDID and DDC are no help here.
-logverbose 9, dmesg, and xorg.conf attached. This is the world's
most-generic laptop ever, so I'm not sure how this one slipped through.

Startup/shutdown problems: HAL and SCSI synchronizing fails

Greetings!
I'm new to Linux and to Fedora, and having some minor problems with
installing it on my laptop (a Clevo SmartNote) :-).
1.,
My greatest problem is that I cannot shut down the computer 9 of 10
times, due I get the following message on the console:

Halting system
md: stopping all md devices
Synchronizing SCSI cache for disks sda
And here it stops functionating ;] I waited for ages but nothing
happens. It sometimes replying for CTRL + C/D, but then it gives the
same message and still does nothing (afterwards it seems its totally
freezes).
Can I disable this thing somehow? Any tips how to solve it? I was
searching the web for any solutions but haven't found anything :-(
I was told I should try to downgrade the kernel to make fedora recognize
it a simple hda rather than a sda. I've downgraded the kernel to 2.6.18,
but I still experience the problem. I'm frightened a little if this
could damage my HDD, and it makes me a little frustrated :-(

When I start the computer, it takes about 5 minutes, because the HAL
daemon seems to fail or something. Where to start looking for the
problem? I'm curious because everything seems to working fine...
Regardless of this startup / shutdown problems I'm proud of having
Fedora installed :D
Any replies would be greatly appreciated!!

hi,
I wasn't able to boot up any of the Fedora installs this time. I have to time
the power button at the right moment, and for the right amount of time.
You may check with all of my other postings - in which I have tried to get anyones
attention. In previous posts, I have included more info - also an attempt to
convey this on bugzilla. But I could need some help in how to report this.
I had gone to bed, but wanted to add something: This happen in Microsoft Vista
as well. Often if you write long in an editor, the machine freezes, and I haven't been able to do like in other Microsoft system: alt-control-delete, and you may
kill the hanging application. In Vista I am have to force a power-down by holding
the power off long enough to shut it down ( with the extra trouble of leaving the
session in an abrupt way ) It's been a pain, an loss of much written work.

Further more - it may upset something in Bios, and perhaps why Hewlet packard
had trouble with some firmware in Vista. I have upgraded/Updated BIOS firmware once, because of some of this problems.
I did receive a reply from NDIVIDA about, explained the trouble with Linux:
Reply said: "Make sure your SATA controller in in ACHI mode from BIOS !"
As the BIOS don't have any entry, BIOS is handled by Microsoft Vista. And
at the moment I don't exactly know what the ACHI mode is all about !
Now I will have to get some sleep. Worked 24 hours, then 18, then 16, now
- done more then 30 installs, a bunch of version of Fedora and SUSE.

FC7 Dell Latitude D505 ACPI Suspend

The new kernels in FC7 do not allow the Dell Latitude D505 to recover from ACPI
suspend. The video signal is never regained. At first I thought it was Xorg
7.2 i810(4) driver, but it also happens in console-only mode w/ no X server
access:

Mouse Pointer Missing On Startup

I'm running Fedora 7 on a Compaq F572US laptop, with proprietary Nvidia
drivers. During boot, the mouse and mouse pointer appear through rhgb.
However, many times, after boot and the gdm login screen appears, the
mouse pointer disappears. The mouse still works, since when I move the
mouse I can get different boxes to high lite, however the pointer itself
is missing. This doesn't happen always, but enough to make it
frustrating and warrant a query for help :-) I have to continuously
reboot until I get a mouse pointer in gdm.
Can anyone explain how this can happen and what I can investigate?

Fedora 6 attempt

Initial install: kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.x86_64
Software updater: kernel-2.6.22.4-45.fc6.x86_64
Result is about the same as with Fedora7 and Fedora7.9
That is, it will not find Volgroups and you have kernel panic.
However, the Initial kernel behaves better then most other attempts so
far. X server came up more correctly, but network is troublesome, and
wifi - not a chance.
Suggestions: With more then one kernel to select from in Grub, it should
also preserve modules used, like network drivers, as these may also change
with the kernel. In fact - it would be rather great if grub could be used
to switch from different network drivers & settings !!
( perhaps it is possible, I just don't know about it ? )

FC6 test

This time I tried FC6_x64, and it booted. Now what will
happen if it receives upgrades ? ( will a kernel upgrade,
do the same as attempts with FC7 ? )

this case I did try and external USB-Ethernet adapter.
( unex model HU001R )
Include lspci, lsusb.
NOTE: this may indicate that the nVidia->USB connection works ?

Is it the chipset chain from nVidia ?

Received network updates -
Kernel updated from 2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 to 2.6.22.4-65.fc7 which does the same
as what F7-x64 did. Will no longer find installed system !

Isn't there a way to fool the system to upgrade the kernel ?
Did rename kernels & lib to something older, but it didn't work.
