problems with Dell wireless 1395
by udutronik Tronik
Hello,
I've bought a Dell inspiron 1420 laptop and i am having a hard time
configuring the wireless in Linux.
The wireless card is a Dell Wireless 1395
Lspci output views it as a broadcom 4310
I've tried to install driver ndiswrapper with various versions of XP drivers
(bcmwl5.inf) with no success.
Doing a "ndiswrapper -l" outputs : "bcmwl5 installed". But no reference to
the device.
Next step, i figure, is fiddling with B43-fwcutter.
Problem is this card is never listed on compatibility (dell 1390 is,
broadcom 4309 and 4311 are...)
Anybody has succeded in configuring this hardware?

Fedora 8: Mousecursor sometimes disappears
by Kjel Delaey
Hi all,
Sometimes I have a strange problem: When the desktop loads (gnome/kde) my mousecursor sometimes doesn't appear. When I move the mouse I see the icons lighten up. ctrl+alt+backspace doesn't help. I need to restart the machine...
Is there a solution for this problem? Also my Fedora crashes sometimes when I do a shutdown. (When you see the list where the daemons are being disabled)
These two problems occur at random.
For this reason (beside the wifi that doesn't work...) I am considering to reinstall Ubuntu.
Kind regards,
Kjel

Fedora 8 install failure
by Anders Hartman
Hello,
I'm trying to install Fedora 8 x86_64 on my HP Compaq 8710p laptop.
The DVD boots fine, I tell the install to do a new install, come to the
blue screen that
loads some drivers and end up at the disk check requester. After the
check is done (or skipped),
/sbin/loader blows me away with a SIGSEGV error and shuts down the system.
I have also tried to install Ubuntu 7.10 and OpenSUSE 10.3. They install
and works flawlessly.
However, I'm a Fedora guy ;-)
Any suggestions?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some system facts:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40GHz
4 GB RAM
ST9120823AS hard disc
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 320M graphics card
TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632M
Intel 82566MM Gigabit LAN
Intel WiFi Link 4965AG
Additional info
The Fedora 8 KDE LIVE CD/DVD seems to boot up just fine. Can't make a
clean (swedish) install with this though.
