Fedora 9 On Laptop battery
by Fastie
Hi
I have been working on Fedora since Core 6, and found that now I've moved
i've had to start using my battery more on my laptop than I used to. So my
battery just doesn't last. I got myself a replacement thinking that my
battery is dead but still had the same result.
I am running an HP NC6320 laptop with nothing extra (clean install). My
brightness is on the lowest setting.
I went through my services and stopped all the ones I don't need and
installed powertop and did what it told me to do, (but it is not permanent
for one).
According to HP my battery should last about 4 hours, however I only get
about 1.5 hours if I am lucky. I have to say when I was testing this on
Windows I did not get 4 hours as HP say but got about 3 hours. So running
Fedora cut my battery time in half.
One thing I did see on powertop is that my "Wakeups-from-idle per second" is
running at "669.1 interval: 10.0s", this looks high. How do you reduce
this?
Is there anything else I can do to get more battery power out of it?
Thanks
Chris

You might want to look at either BackupPC or Unison. Unison is basically a
two-way rsync that you run when you choose (or script via cron), so it can keep
the newest file whether you change it on the PC or portable; normally with rsync
you cannot do that. I've never used BackupPC but it is supposed to be a
full-blown backup solution.

X not working at all
by El-Hassan Wanas
Hey guys,
I have an LG R405, it has an integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 card in it.
During the Fedora 9 installation(which started in text), I got a message
saying couldn't configure X. I tried installing other distros as well, but
nothing worked graphical.
Any help on that?
Thanks,
Wanas

Looking for evtouch driver for Fedora 9
by axel lin
hi list,
I'm looking for evtouch driver for Fedora 9.
I have checked http://www.conan.de/touchscreen/evtouch.html.
Here is my questions bout using evtouch on Fedora 9:
1. Is there any rpm available for evtouch driver on Fedora 9.
2. I tried to use pre-built evtouch-0.8.7.tar.gz driver,
but I got version mis-match error (in /var/log/Xorg.0.log)
Then I try to compile the source code.
but I got below error when execute ./configure
checking for XORG... configure: error: Package requirements (xorg-server
xproto ) were not met:
No package 'xorg-server' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables XORG_CFLAGS
and XORG_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
Which rpm is missing?
Below is the xorg packages installed in my system.

F9 installer could not detect my previous installed F8
by Yunus
Hi Users of Fedora,
I have installed F9 successfuly (GRUB installed on MBR). It seems that F9
could not detect my previously installed F8.
My partition layout as follows:
Device Partition Type Remark
--------------------------------------------------------
dev/sda
dev/sda1 /boot newly created from free space for F9
free space unallocated space
dev/sda2 /home formerly created for F8
dev/sda3 swap formely created for F8
dev/sda4 extended partion
dev/sda5 /1 formeld created root partion for F8
dev/sda6 / newly created for root partion for
F9
Anyone can help me to recove my F8 and give advice on best partion layout
for dual boot (Fedora+Fedora or Fedora+Debian)?
Thank you
yunus

backup and synchronization program?
by D. H. Holsboer
Hi,
I am looking for a program that can backup and/or synchronize data on my
laptop (FC 8), on another FC 8 and on a WIN XP on my LAN. I have for WIN
- WIN synchronization and/or backup the program SyncBack, but don want
to have to switch to Win XP all the time I want to make a backup or
synchronize the systems.
Does anybody know which Linux program performs these actions by simply
copying files from one system to the system on which they are not
present and overwriting old files with the newer versions? This is the
way I use to my satisfaction the program SyncBack.exe. Of course, the
Win XP machine is accessible via smb.
Later this month I plan to change to FC 9, hoping that most difficulties
with the new version (no new version without itś own set of
difficulties...) will be solved.
