Please briefly describe the interaction that caused you to file this
ticket:
Asking a question on the IRC Freenode #fedora channel.
I have visited this channel on several occasions and generally take
confidence in the quality of what replies and solutions are given. I
realize that each volunteer/? does so to assist others in their use of
fedora software.
Thank you for being there to help and please keep up the good work.

Please describe what action or positive change could be adopted based on
this feedback:
The only constructive criticism I would say is.
Please -
Don't let every single answer be "Read the Man" while this does educate a
user. It also can become a frustrating factor. For those that have
learning issues, poor eyesight, or comprehension abilities regarding the
manuals themselves(sometimes overly technical).
Don't look down on someone if they do not possess the same reading writing
or comprehension skill that you have. Some may not be able to type as fast
or may have a slower internet connection, these all hinder how and what we
can do.
If you have explained to the extent that you know and questions arise that
are or have been discussed maybe you may need an additional person to help
you explain to the level that can be understood by the person.
Simply- If you talk over someones head then they probably won't
understand. Speak to their level.
Any additional notes or logs:
Thanks to all the people who help in the IRC channels.
I would be at a great loss without you
Thanks for your feedback!

kick and ban messages
by Kevin Fenzi
I'd like to add the nickname of the operator to kicking and banning
messages from fedbot. (At least when using the normal aliases for such
actions on #fedora).
This may mean people direct some hostility to whoever performed the
action, but I think it's good in the interests of transparency.
We can also direct them to use our new trac instance for feedback.
This would mean:
Before:
3l33tnick99 was kicked by fedbot (I'm sorry, you are spamming)
After:
3l33tnick99 was kicked by fedbot (I'm sorry, you are spamming -- nirik )
Thoughts? Objections?

trac: the last mile
by Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.
We now have a trac instance. We need to finish deciding on inital setup
and start using it. ;)
Outstanding questions are:
- Should we open it to allow anyone to create a new ticket?
Pros:
* more easy to get quick feedback
* allows people who don't want to signup to join in
* allows anonymous comments
Cons:
* spammer central
* promotes drive by comments with no way to contact the
submitter.
* doesn't allow anonymous comments.
I'm inclined to just leave it requiring a fedora account. It's not like
it's difficult to sign up for one of those, and would allow us to at
least be able to contact the submitter.
- Is the template that I have now for feedback ok? Or missing anything?
https://fedorahosted.org/irc-support-sig/newtplticket
Would anyone like to step up to finish the setup on it?
I would be happy to hand it off to another interested group of people
to work on, if there is interest. I'd like to have the landing page
written up with notes on meeting tickets and feedback and pointing
people to our regular resources, as well as setting it up to mail the
mailing list.
Thoughts?

Off Topic Chit-Chat #Fedora
by David Riches
** Apologies, I sent this to the alias and not the ML - please respond to this email **
Hi all,
Following a recent discussion in #fedora-ops , could I suggest the following with regard to off-topic conversation in #fedora?
1) That we take a blanket view amongst all ops, that off-topic conversation is *not* detrimental to the channel, provided it is done in an appropriate manner and not whilst there are outstanding support issues awaiting to be dealt with. I, for one actually think off-topic chit-chat can be beneficial to the overall atmosphere in the channel, and will possibly encourage those who have problems (but possibly too scared to air them) to speak up.
I also, can't see any actual problems with taking this approach.
2) as a result of this, we have an additional bot alias, which triggers a non-discriminate notice about off-topic conversation in the channel, and not at a specific user. This alias could be triggered from within the channel, or perhaps if appropriate from within #fedora-ops and could possibly read something like...
"<fedbot> asks if anyone currently engaging in conversation not directly related to seeking or providing assistance, would kindly consider moving their conversation(s) to the #fedora-social (or some other) channel instead. It isn't a requirement, but it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!"
I think this is a trivial request, and hope dearly that it doesn't develop into some sort of -ops battle, as I don't think we need to lower ourselves to that level. I also don't think it warrants coming off the ML and onto the meeting agenda, but then that is up to the rest of you.
As with the issues we identified with Trac (ie, positive feedback rarely gets voiced, whereas complaints regularly get voiced) I would appreciate feedback from all of my peers, even if its "I don't care".
Thanks all
Kind Regards

Plan for tomorrow's irc support sig meeting (2010-09-02)
by Kevin Fenzi
Here's what I have for an agenda for tomorrow's meeting, which will be
held at 16:00UTC in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net.
Feel free to reply to this with additional topics, or bring them up in
the "open floor" section of the meeting.
We had a number of topics last week that we were going to discuss
here on the list before moving forward with them. We can discuss them
in the meeting if folks want, or this might be a good time to bring up
debate on them for those interested on the list or in a meeting ticket on trac.
