I was going to do these individually, but it will just turn into spam, and
on the most part this is a no-brainer.
I propose the removal of the following members of the sig, on the basis
they carry a vote currently..but may not be active, or interested in the
sig.
ausil, bit4man, deepsa, ivazquez, jkeating, jsmith, jsteffan, mkearey,
pfrields, wtogami, kanarip
I guess the simple thing is, if you agree with the removal, vote with
"+1", if you disagree with it all "-1", and if you disagree with one (or
more particular user's removal "-1 <username>"
Otherwise this thread could easily turn into 10 threads and get
unnecessarily messy.

I have the following proposal for an amendment to the existing IRC Support
SIG Policy.
Currently the nomination process is vaguely worded in the following
fashion.
"New operators/voting members are nominated by filing a ticket and asking
to join. Voting members have 7 days to vote, majority vote determines
outcome."
I propose that it be amended to read as the following:
* New operators/voting members are nominated by filing a ticket before the
next scheduled meeting allowing voting members to discuss the nomination
in an open forum.
* After the meeting the nomination will be voted on by using the ticket
system. A +1 denotes a yay and a -1 denotes a nay.
* The ticket voting period shall last 7 days.
* At the next scheduled meeting following the ticket voting period
attending voting members are given a final chance to vote. All votes will
be tallied and as last business the nominee is either appointed to the
position or declined the position based on the majority of votes.
Your input is greatly appreciated.

17:12:59 <EvilBob> One thing I would like to note, this is subject to probation pending the amendment to the policy page. So bot-ops only for now.
17:13:16 <Sonar_Gal> +1
17:13:19 <N3LRX> Understood.
17:13:42 <nirik> well, we have no clear idea what probation means, but if N3LRX wants to just use botops for now until further rules are drafted thats fine with me.
17:13:46 <EvilBob> I will work as a mentor to N3LRX to get him up to speed as is my responsibility as nominator.
17:14:07 <EvilBob> nirik: Yes, that is why I said "pending"
17:14:50 <EvilBob> Passed, N3LRX as a new op. we will get him set up on the bot later today and added to the fas group.
17:15:04 <EvilBob> Welcome N3LRX!
17:15:18 <EvilBob> #topic ticket 113 - Kudos for EvilBob, Hawkwind on F17 snap assistance

17:15:34 <nirik> congrats N3LRX. use your powers for good.
17:15:40 <N3LRX> Thanks, I'll do my best not to let anyone down.
17:15:45 <nirik> kudos EvilBob and hawkwind.
17:15:57 <Sonar_Gal> Good job Guys
17:16:14 <EvilBob> Helped out a couple users with the upgrade problem we have seen. I will post details and pass on the ticket link to hawkwind next time I see him.
17:16:23 <EvilBob> ;)
17:16:40 <EvilBob> I'll close the two tickets we covered this week later.
17:16:53 <EvilBob> #topic Open Floor
17:16:53 <EvilBob> Does anyone have anything to add?
17:16:58 <thomasj> EvilBob holding his hand? lol.. kudos :)
17:17:31 <l0ft1369> I have a question
17:17:44 <EvilBob> thomasj: It's an interesting problem that crops up a couple ways. I just followed suggestions that nirik gave another user.
17:17:57 <EvilBob> l0ft1369: Rock the box.
17:18:16 * EvilBob kicks the box over to l0ft1369
17:18:16 <thomasj> EvilBob: i think you did a great job, i was just laughing about the "holding my hand" part :)
17:18:34 <l0ft1369> where can I go to read up on how I can get more involved
17:19:02 <l0ft1369> I've signed up for the lists and I try and help out in the rooms when I can, but I am not sure if I am following all of the rules, or making anyone mad or anything like that
17:19:27 <Southern_Gentlem> l0ft1369, help in the #fedora channel
17:19:27 <EvilBob> l0ft1369: we are working on clearing up some details, the basics are just jump in and learn, give good advice following other's example.
17:19:56 <EvilBob> l0ft1369: If you goof someone will let you know.
17:20:03 <l0ft1369> nice!
17:20:26 <EvilBob> the biggest thing we try to remember is to not get too many helpers helping one user at a time
17:20:31 <l0ft1369> #Fedora is most active when I am at work (I'm an IT Guy) so I can't give it my full attention
17:20:31 <EvilBob> it just makes a mess.
17:20:37 <l0ft1369> ah ha
17:20:48 <EvilBob> "Too many cooks"
17:20:54 <l0ft1369> right right. I'
17:20:56 <l0ft1369> m
17:21:15 <l0ft1369> I'm trying to get used to using IRC specifically BitchX... it's been a process
17:21:30 <EvilBob> l0ft1369: You will see me back out even if I have hours invested when to many jump on, I tell the user to contact me later if it's not sorted out.
17:21:47 <EvilBob> l0ft1369: I use xchat personally
17:22:04 <EvilBob> l0ft1369: Welcome to #fedora I guess.
17:22:06 <EvilBob> ;)
17:22:14 <l0ft1369> haha thanks :)
17:22:23 <EvilBob> Anything else for the open floor?
17:22:40 <EvilBob> OK quick review.
17:22:50 <EvilBob> We pushed two tickets
17:23:00 <EvilBob> We passed/closed 2 more
17:23:08 <Sonar_Gal> Correct
17:23:09 <EvilBob> I will handle closing those.
17:23:12 <Sonar_Gal> ok
17:23:25 <EvilBob> I will also work on updating the common bugs page.
17:23:42 <EvilBob> Will be a few hours before I get to any of the tasks.
17:24:04 <EvilBob> Sonar_Gal and I will get our addition to the amendment ticket worked on soonish.
17:24:23 <EvilBob> Thank You EVERYONE that made it to the meeting.
17:24:56 <EvilBob> I'll also sent out the minutes/report
17:25:14 <EvilBob> Have a great week everyone.

Please briefly describe the interaction that caused you to file this
ticket:
I was forced to use preupgrade to get Fedora 17, and I ran into the
kernel-panic-at-shutdown issue. In addition, I apparently had yum set to
the Fedora 16 repos instead of F17.
EvilBob stepped in at first, trying to hold my hand... and Hawkwind
finished it off. Having experts around when you're tapdancing as root is
a pretty good idea!
I believe EvilBob also bailed me out of an upgrade jam from F15 to F16,
but I never got around to crediting him with it (lots of steps to create
an account just to say thanks... sheesh).

contacts for *.R.*.rpm packages support
by Aleksandra Fedorova
Hi, all,
This is just a short introduction note, so if you ever heard the
problem or question regarding "rfremix" or "reremix" or packages from
russianfedora-* repos (they marked with big R, as in
"grub-customizer-2.5.6-1.fc18.R.i686.rpm"), you will know what to do.
We are Russian Fedora - the officially registered local community with
main site http://ru.fedoracommunity.org (in Russian). English info
available here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Russian_Fedora
We have russian support channel for all fedora-related distributions
at fedora(a)conference.jabber.ru.
We organized local repositories and custom Fedora remix called RFRemix,
which contains Fedora with default Russian locale, mp3 codecs, patched
fonts and over stuff, which is legal in Russia. (We don't "recompile kernel"
or something, our remix contains mostly cosmetic changes and very
close to the Spin.)
I don't ask for a support of our packages for sure, just instead of
simply sending this user away from the #fedora support channel you
could send him in our direction :)
Thanks, and Happy Release Day!

The user OzBorne Has proven to be a problem by interfering with the
channel operation by harassing me. I have asked to user repeatedly to not
communicate with me and insists on addressing me. They have been quieted,
kicked and banned many times and just don't seem to get the hint. They
have been banned by their native language channel several times also, the
channel in question is not managed by the SIG but I am including the
information as reference. The user based on their history has no positive
impact on the channel, they are a self admitted troll.
Please note other IRC nicks that are involved in this interaction:
Southern_Gent and other ops who have banned them.
Please describe what action or positive change could be adopted based on
this feedback: Ban the user for a full release, they currently under a 1
week ban already.
Any additional notes or logs: Logs can be provided if needed but I
believe their action is common knowledge with most active ops.

Please describe what action or positive change could be adopted based on
this feedback:
Proposal for handling unregistered users on IRC - By default, most IRC
clients can be told to autoconnect and issue identify messages to
NickServ.
Unfortunately the ident message isn't sent quick enough resulting in being
dumped into #fedora-unrgistered.
A workaround exists that the user can "{{{ /set irc_join_delay 10 }}} in
xchat to delay joining 10 seconds" but this is a kludge and forces each
user to configure the setting which seems to be contrary the fedora idea
of fixing the bugs at the layer they occur rather than issuing
workarounds.
I propose two possible solutions but they're not exhaustive - I'm not an
IRC expert, just a user.
1. Set users to -v such that they have no voice in the main channel until
identified?.
2. Get #fedora-unregistered to kick back to #fedora when a user has been
identified.
Any additional notes or logs:
None. Thanks for the pointers and being open to suggestions.
