Problem with updating powerdevil and libddcutil from F38
by Jeffrey Walton
Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to upgrade a KDE-based workstation from F38 to F39. I
delayed the upgrade to ensure this workstation would remain available.
The delay allowed a problem with powerdevil and libddcutil to creep
in. It is causing `dnf update` and `dnf update --refresh` to fail.
I use only Fedora repos. I don't have any third party repos enabled,
like RPM Fusion.
I see a couple of other specific questions about powerdevil and
libddcutil from F38, but I don't see a clear path forward.
How do I fix the problem?
Thanks in advance.

The "graphic login" is the plain ordinary login screen that appears when
the computer starts up.

FC39 Upgrade failure - Kernel not in grub
by Robin Laing
Hello,
I did an upgrade today from from FC37 to FC39 and all went well except
that the kernel is NOT in grub.
All the apps are now FC39 but no option to boot with the FC39 kernel.
I tried to reinstall the kernel to see if it would be picked up by grub
that that didn't work either.
RPM shows that the kernel is installed.
How do I progress from here?

Strange problem with phpmyadmin after recent dnf upate??
by Michael D. Setzer II
Failed to set session cookie. Maybe you are using HTTP instead of
HTTPS to access phpMyAdmin.
Had been using firefox to access phpMyAdmin on a system to
update databases.
Just now get the above error message.
Have found that if I run firefox from root user rather than my user
it works fine and connects and allows same processes that I was
able to do?
So, what might have changed.
Recall seeing firefox upgrade, but tried with Chrome and same
error message?

ulimit or files-max?
by Alex
Hi, what is the current way to increase the number of available open files?
This is for a mariadb database server I'm trying to configure based on
instructions from the database developer to increase the total number of
files to 50000. I've added the following to /etc/security/limits.conf and
rebooted:
root - nofile 50000
ulimit -n as root now shows:
# ulimit -n
50000
Can this value also be set by using sysctl and setting fs.file-max to 50000?
# sysctl -a|grep file
fs.file-max = 50000
fs.file-nr = 6864 0 50000
fs.xfs.filestream_centisecs = 3000
Which is the correct way? Also, does fs.file-nr mean there are currently
6864 open files on the system?

cannot update to Fedora 39 aarch64(rpi 4) Signature errors
by olivares33561
Dear kind Fedora users,
I am running fedora 38 aarch64 on a raspberry pi 4, I run system upgrade from dnf, perform the upgrade, when restarting I get many errors
*** error: Verifying a signature using certificate E....
and It reboots and still running Fedora 38.
The upgrade key was shown I chose y when prompted.
Wonder something happened? On 64 bit system it worked without problems.
TIA,

by Ger van Dijck
Hi Samuel,
Dnf info openh264 gives that the version FC33 is installed (!!!) , I heard
from other users that they have the same problem sfter upgrading FC38 to
FC39 , so I installed the openh264 version FC39 and all runs fine !!
Mayby this can help other Fedora fans to solve the problem.
Thanks for your help.

Dnf install ffmpeg.
by Ger van Dijck
Linux Lovers,
With my respects to Andre Robatino , Samuel Sieb , Harald Labes , ja (?) ,
and Tom Horsley : Your advises did not have any results.
Giving Dnf install ffmpeg creates the following message :
Error/Problem
ffmpeg.6.0-16.fc39.x86_64 from rpmfusion requires
ffmpeg-libs(x86_64)=6.0-16.fc39 but none of the providers can be installed.
Conflicting/Requests
Nothing provides libopenh264.so7 (64 bit) needed by
ffmpeg-lib.6.0-16.fc39.x86_64 from rpmfusion.
So by the way the Tor browser is inable to play videos.
Question : How to solve this problem ?
Regards ,
Ger van Dijck.
