systemd Unit - Modifying IPv4 parameters
by Tony Su
In the "old days" edits were made directly to the appropriate file
/proc/net/ipv4/...
With current systemd (running systemd v202), the entire IPv4 branch
appears to have been replaced.
Need guidance
- How to configure/re-configure the TCP/IP Congestion Control algorithm
- How to specify custom value for TCP/IP buffers, etc
TIA,
Tony

F18 on Raspberry Pi
by MLists
Just wondering if anyone has any hints/tips on getting Fedora 18 up and running on a Raspberry Pi (specifically the latest 2.0 model B 512M version). I've tried about 4 different tutorials scattered around the net to copy the dist onto the SD card, about a half dozen different SD cards. Also tried a couple of preinstalled ones from eBay just in case I was doing something stupid. Also tried about 3 different Raspberry Pi's. In all cases I get nothing... apply power and just get a black screen. Have tried a couple of other distros and they all seem to boot up right away the first time. I'd prefer to be using Fedora since I'm far more familiar with it, but I'm at wit's end trying to get it to work.
Cheers,

Fwd: Fedora 18 basic functionality install question

Wow!
Many, many thanks. Really.
Everything went as you wrote, but the last step failed - there is no
signature. This is UEFI boot enabled, dual booting F18 and Win8 (it that's
what the missing signature error is referring to).
Attached is a cleaned typescript2.txt showing errors (I didn't start it
from the beginning, sorry, but everything went exactly as you wrote).
I'll wait for your reply before I give up and try to reinstall kernel.
Regards

Two HDs
by Bill Kuns
Dear Helpers:
I have installed two 1 TB Hard Drives in my new system. Only one of the
two is
recognized by Fedora.
They are WD1002FAEX drives. When I asked Western Digital for
assistance, their
"help" wasn't much help.
They reported this difficulty was the result of a "Signature Collision".
Then,. they gave me instructions on how to clear the error in Windows
XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. None of those is going to
work under Fedora.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks,

f18 audio problems
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
My f18-xfce install has serious bugs in its audio programs.
1) There is no volume control popup. The only way to view the audio
level is to use the application's Multimedia->Audio Mixer and/or
Multimedia->Volume Control. On Audio Mixer the Master control responds
to the keyboard volume controls. On Volume Control->Output Devices also
responds. Panel applet Audio Mixer seems to off in a world of its own.
2) Panel applet Audio Mixer (different than Multimedia->Audio Mixer)
disappears on mouse out even when set to "Always on Top".
3) Multimedia->Audio Mixer->Master when moved to zero volume via the
mouse causes Mute on both Multimedia->Audio Mixer and Multimedia->Volume
Control. Raising it leaves Multimedia->Volume Control muted.
4) Multimedia->Volume Control->Input Devices->Port->Line In volume
setting have no effect. Multimedia->Audio Mixer->Line-in responds to
mouse control raising and lowering the input level.
5) Line Input seems to have escaped from the rest of the audio system.
While applications respond to volume adjustment Line Input remains fixed.
6) Moving any volume control to zero mutes Line Input; raising it
returns it to a fixed level (all or none).
7) Occasionally the panel Audio Mixer applet does control line input
volume but I have yet to determine how or what causes that to happen.
This seems to be one of those situations where "the left hand doesn't
know what the right hand is doing".
Anybody have any insight? Others noticed this?
Thanks,
Mike Wright

latest xen update breaks boot for non iommu
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
The latest f18 yum update has a broken boot stanza in grub2 when booting
xen.
The assumption is that hardware iommu exists. If your system doesn't
have hardware iommu your boot WILL fail.
If you encounter this situation change the following line in grub.cfg
module /xen.gz /xen.gz placeholder iommu=force
to:
module /xen.gz /xen.gz placeholder iommu=soft

latest kernel update is broken
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
Just updated to kernel vmlinuz-3.8.11-200.fc18.x86_64. Needed packages
are installed but it doesn't boot.
1) grub2.cfg omitted the ramdisk: /initramfs-3.8.11-200.fc18.x86_64.img
2) if I provide the ramdisk if fails to boot saying "kernel needs to be
loaded first".

How to make a gnome shell extension "Click to do Alt+Tab"
by Dario Lesca
Hi, I need to create (but I'm not a javascript programmer) an extension
for gnome shell that makes available a button on top bar that, when
pressed, performs the function Alt + Tab and swap the window used with
the previous one if pressed slowly and, if pressed quickly, swap all
windows in sequence. Just alt + tab do.
Can anyone help me?
Many Thanks

gnome-shell and syslog problems
by Matthew Saltzman
I have a Fedora 18 machine on which I use gnome-shell as a desktop.
After the last set of updates, I tried to restart. The machine froze
during shutdown and I had to reset it from the front panel. Since then,
I can't get gnome-shell to start. The greeter runs, but when I log in,
I just get the background screen. My keyboard remaps take hold (I swap
ctrl and caps-lock to get a Sun keyboard feel), but I don't see any
panels.
When I tried to troubleshoot that problem, I discovered
that /var/log/messages* and some other files were empty. It turns out
that syslogd was dead. I've found that it simply doesn't start on boot,
but it starts fine when I start it by hand. dmesg and boot.log appear
normal AFAICT, though there is nothing in them related to syslog.
I've tried googling for solutions, but I haven't find a good set of
search terms to target.
Can anyone suggest how to start troubleshooting either of these
problems?
TIA.
