F-18 rpc error "showmount -e server"
by Frank Murphy
Trying to track down
On the client box
"> /var/log/messages"
"> /var/log/audit/audit.log"
# showmount -e 192.168.0.*
rpc mount export: RPC: Authentication error; why = Failed
(unspecified error)
cat /var/log/messages (client)
empty
# cat /var/log/audit/audit.log
empty
Same files on the server show nothing either.
showmount -e works as expected on the server.

F18 download won't burn to CD.
by Bill Case
I suspect stupidity on my part because I see no questions on the list or
google about my problem.
I have an older computer that I want to upgrade the OS to Fedora 18. I
have downloaded Fedora-18-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso (960.5 mb)on to a
newer machine. I want to burn it to a CD (700 mb) or install it some
other way on the older machine which only has CD drives.
None of the instructions tell me how. There used to be a specific live
version for a CD. Either I am blind, stupid or ignorant. Could you
pleas tell me which and how I may be able to get that old machine
running
P.S. using a network is out of the question. The eth0 card is broken.
That is what started this whole mess.

f17 printing stalls
by Jackson Byers
f17 recent preupgrade from f16
mostly works.
But printing from f17 is stalling in odd way:
1) printing a test file works
2) a 2d attempt at printing a test file hangs,
printer light continues to blink, never stops
lpstat -t shows
printer HP-LaserJet-2200 is idle. enabled since Mon 13 May 2013 10:53:37
AM PDT
Sending data to printer.
If I then power off the printer, and then on again
then printing a test file works,
but trying another print stalls, same symptoms as above.
if I reboot to my old f16, printing works continually.
any advice?

Fedora 18's KVM/Libvirt vs CentOS 6.4's
by Tommy Pham
Hi,
Isn't Fedora 18 supposed to be 'bleeding edge' in terms of software and
features? I'm asking because I see Fedora's KVM CPU configuration for the
guest VM only has up to Opteron_G4 while CentOS has up to Opteron_G5 for
the same hardware?
Thanks,
Tommy

yum --downloadonly
by Frank Murphy
# yum --downloadonly
if # yum --downloadonly
is invoked without --downloadir
are the packages just kept in the yum cache?
so /etc/yum.conf needs keepcache=1
or does it?
I normally keep the cache,
so without removing lots of stuff cannot test.

Comaring nfs on two nfs clients
by Frank Murphy
Client one:
~$ lsmod | grep nfs
nfsv4 242721 0
nfs 169344 1 nfsv4
dns_resolver 13096 1 nfs
fscache 60427 2 nfs,nfsv4
nfsd 283278 13
auth_rpcgss 48560 2 nfsd,nfsv4
nfs_acl 12741 1 nfsd
lockd 93540 2 nfs,nfsd
sunrpc 256729 41
nfs,nfsd,auth_rpcgss,lockd,nfsv4,nfs_acl
Client two:
~$ lsmod | grep nfs
nfsd 283278 13
auth_rpcgss 48560 1 nfsd
nfs_acl 12741 1 nfsd
lockd 93540 1 nfsd
sunrpc 256729 21 nfsd,auth_rpcgss,lockd,nfs_acl
Client one, connects to yum-server with autosfs,
Client two does, not
Same version kernel, selinux*, auto.* files
on both boxes.
The difference seems to be loaded mods.
The server is also F18.

F-18 nfs in /etc/fstab & autofs mount
by Frank Murphy
If I mount the server export on the client in /etc/fstab
or mount "server:/export /mountpoint" it works
but if setup as autofs.nfs on the client
-rw,hard,intr,nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192
server:/export
it says [Errno 13] Permission denied: /export/remote_dir
the export has no_root_squash
