SELinux: how to allow NM / OpenVPN to access my homedir?
by Mihamina Rakotomandimby
Hi all,
I configured NM/OpenVPN to get the needed certificates from my homedir
${HOME}/openvpn/*
When trying to launch, it fails because of:
May 8 12:12:51 mihamina-i5 setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing
/usr/sbin/openvpn from open access on the file
/home/mihamina/openvpn/mihamina.crt. For complete SELinux messages. run
sealert -l 2a4693c2-93a8-4d29-94a5-0b0fdd89e592
May 8 12:12:56 mihamina-i5 NetworkManager[659]: <info> VPN service
'openvpn' disappeared
May 8 12:13:19 mihamina-i5 /usr/bin/sealert: exception ValueError:
unknown locale: en_DK
May 8 12:13:26 mihamina-i5 /bin/sealert: exception ValueError: unknown

What to do? I really want to give its chance to SELinux... :-)

Howto configure KDE to always open new windows?
by Alan Evans
Hello all!
My devel machine at work is running F17 and KDE. There are lots of little
things about KDE that bug me, but this one is driving me batty.
I keep 12 workspaces open. Yes, 12 -- it works for me. At any time, I'll
have multiple instances (or at least multiple windows) open, spread around
the various workspaces. For example, I might have 3 or 4 kate windows open
in various workspaces, each editing groups of files relevant to what I'm
doing with that workspace.
Now, if I open a new file from, for example, Dolphin, the system picks one
of the existing kate windows and opens the file in that. The problem is
that I never want that to happen. It's especially aggravating when the
window that opens the file is not even in the same workspace that I'm
viewing when I select the file.
This also happens when I click links in emails. They always open in a
(randomly? chosen) browser window even if that browser window is not in my
current workspace.
Is there a way to configure KDE to always open files or links in a new
window? In the current workspace? It would be nice if there were some
universal setting for this behavior, but I'll settle for just a way to make
files opened in Dolphin always appear in a new window.

Fedora 18 basic functionality install question
by soko.tica
Hello list,
I have successfully installed Fedora 18 with basic functionality on an
UEFI-based lenovo y400 notebook to dual boot with pre-installed windows 8.
Both OS-es boot without a hassle (although to boot windows 8 I need to turn
on the box through the "novo" button, while turning on by pressing "usual"
button boots fedora - it should be solved through shim and uefi-boot
options subsequently, I guess).
However, there are several issues I need help with:
1) I have installed fedora with basic functionality, since I didn't want
pre-selected desktops (I wanted to install fluxbox subsequently). Since I
have no previous experience with Fedora (I'have been using OpenBSD for
several years) it appears to be the mistake as it caused problems described
under 2) and 3).
2) I have no network card configured.
ifconfig -a shows loopback only. Although the installer recognized wi-fi
card during the installation I left it unconfigured, since I wanted to
connect through
eth0. lspci shows Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR8161
Gigabit Ethernet, but I havent managed to bring it up by ifconfig up.
3) X won't start (startx - command not found).
The question I ask is how to upgrade from Fedora 18 basic functionality to
a full-blown box? Is simply re-installing safe, given this is a dual-boot
UEFI box?
Many thanks in advance for your time to read this and the effort to respond.

yum-fastestmirror is not the default, it should be
by Fernando Cassia
Is there any rationale for NOT making yum-fastestmirror the default??
Without yum-fastestmirror any yum install is excuciatingly slow, think 256
Kbps or slower.
However if I enable yum-fastestmirror I download from the local mirror in
.AR at 5 Mbps...
So, again, given that benefits that yum-fastestmirror providers, why isn't
it the default behaviour? (we can have 'yum-slowyum' to revert back to the
traditional behaviour ;-)

yumdownloader use cachedir?
by Frank Murphy
I can download i686.rpms on a x86_64 box
using a list from a i686 box using:
yumdownloader --archlist=i686 --releasever=19 `cat
fedin.list`
But, they download to current dir.
Getting them to download to the F19 ~/cachdir
is catching me at the moment.
I could specify a download-dir.
But, that wouldn't allow for boxes on updates-testing.
Brain on the fritz as always.
have also looked at repotrack, repoquery, reposync.

Extraordinary delay in accessing web-site
by Timothy Murphy
I have a Linksys WVC54GCA camera in a remote site,
which I access at http://xyz.com:8080 on one of my Fedora-18 laptops.
For some reason there is now a delay of an hour or so
in getting the image on my laptop.
This occurs on both my Fedora-18/KDE laptops,
whether connected by WiFi or ethernet,
and whether using Firefox, Chrome or Konqueror.
But it does not occur - I get an immediate view -
running Windows XP on the same laptops,
or on my server running CentOS-6.4.
With Firefox I get the message "Connecting to ..."
and then (endlessly) "Transferring data from ...".
Any enlightenment gratefully received.

screenshot running on bootup
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
Running f18 installed from the xfce spin.
Starting this morning f18 runs 75 copies of the Screenshot accessory
every time I boot. I don't think I've ever even used it.
And for whatever reason yum no longer knows anything about /Screenshot
or shutter.
Anybody know the current name of that tool?
TIA,
Mike Wright
