Re: [postgis-users] F18: Postgresql 9.2.x/PostGIS 1.5.x issues

Sorry, but that isn't what the message says. They have been packaged into
RPMs and placed into a testing repository. The question is which testing
repository, since a standard yum command can't retrieve these RPMs.
This is particularly frustrating, since F18 was released with Postgresql
9.2.x, and PostGIS 1.5.x, the latter not being able to function with the
former.
If you had data and projects running on F17 on Postgresql 9.1.x and
PostGIS 1.5.x, and accepted a default upgrade from F17 to F18, you would
be seriously stuck.
As it is, I have three machines, only one of which that I've migrated to
F18 from F17.
So, I'm not that stuck.
But I would like to know where the testing RPMs are so that my data and
projects are current across the three machines.

Dear All,
After doing the last F18 updates, I cannot boot my machine. I get in
the emergency mode and the message:

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

F18 sound issue
by Frédéric Bron
I am using F18 + KDE on a notebook.
I have an nvidia video card (GeForce GTX 560M) which inclues HDMI
support but I am not using the HDMI output, only the internal screen
and speakers.
On F17, everything was fine.
On F18, the keyboard volume buttons (stop, more, less) do not work
anymore. I can see the box with percentage changing and sound/no sound
icon but it does not do anything.
Also, when I click in the panel volume icon (KMix), I can see that HDA
nvidia digital stereo (HDMI) is selected but I do not want to use that
one, I want to use the internal speaker.
Also, pluging a headset do not work properly.
In KMix control panel, I see that HDA NVidia is selected for "sound
card" but if I choose Internal audio, it comes back later to HDA
NVidia.
I do not know what to do to have this working normally.
I see from another thread that maybe this could be related to
pulseaudio. It seems pulseaudio is not working for me:
$ pulseaudio --check
gives empty output.
$ ps ux|grep puseaudio
gives nothing either (as root)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Frédéric

Where is the detailed docs on firewalld?
by David Highley
If we are expected to switch to firewalld we need to understand in
detail how it works. So far I see a GUI and empty XML files with little
information about how to do anything other than run firewall-cmd to add
or delete specific rules.
This really needs documentation so we can understand how it works and
maybe compare situations with iptables that we are to migrate from so
that we all do not have to figure this out from scratch. I'm not really
complaining, just think we need more information so we can move forward
and hopefully not make mistakes. Thanks for the help.

R graphics in F18 (x86_64, Huge blocker for me)
by Ranjan Maitra
So, has anyone tried this out in F18, on x86_64?
sudo yum install R-core
(if not installed)
$R
> pairs(iris)
graphics window shows up but no graphics get displayed for me. No
messages also, anywhere.
This problem is only in x86_64, with a fresh install, as well as with
one upgraded via yum upgrade (on a different machine).
Any suggestions as to what I should even be looking at?
Ranjan
PS: Works fine with i386 (the machine where Sound does not properly).
Ranjan

FC18 - host name not set from DHCP?
by Bill Davidsen
When I boot my test machine, it goes to DHCP and gets a name and IP. The IP is
correctly assigned, but the name is still localhost.localdomain. Now I could
change that in hostname, but that means I have to do the job of dhcp by hand,
and that's not the way it should work.
1 - has anyone else seen this issue?
2 - is it a bug?
3 - if not a bug, how do I fix it.
Note: this works in my fc16 and fc17 machines on the same network. It worked
fine on this machine under fc17, so I'm fairly sure the server and config are
what worked.

how uncover what and why start chronyd?
by Franta Hanzlík
At F17 i386 I have both ntp and chrony package installed, ntpd daemon
is enabled and chronyd daemon is disabled. Despite of this, something
causes chronyd to start. How I can determine how and why it is?
(Please, I do not want hints as masking chronyd/uninstalling chrony)
Thanks, Franta Hanzlik

ntp
by Jan Litwiński
I have proglem with ntp service, I did:
systemctl enable ntpd.service
systemctl start ntpd.service
but ntp don't start at boot, starting by hand works. As a solution I
created rc.local and add to it systemctl start ntpd.service and it works. I
think ntpd starts before NetworkManager, My question is what is correct
solution ?
TIA
