F18 Xorg/drm/kernel - Failed to find memory space for buffer 0xXXX eviction
by Wolfgang S. Rupprecht
On most of my systems the F17 to F18 upgrade went well. On the main
one, my desktop, I'm seeing a string of failures that leaves the display
in various states of unusable depending on the positions of the stars
and planets. The file /var/log/messages contains the following and the
displays have messed up icons and background images. It looks like the
frame buffer is just displaying random snippets of past items in some
mosaic-ed pattern.
2013-01-27T20:06:10.077567-08:00 arbol kernel: [ 28.832592] [TTM] Failed to find memory space for buffer 0xffff88021ceda848 eviction

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Is there something I can turn off
(perhaps in Xorg.conf) to stop this lossage perhaps at some cost in CPU
time or speed? It feels like it must be some video acceleration hack
gone awry. Why else would the kernel get involved in this level of xorg
userland drawing to the framebuffer?
I put in a bugzilla for this a dozen days ago, but so far, not even a
peep from anyone. I figured I'd try for a larger audience.

F18: Update problems ?
by Aaron Gray
Hi,
Is anyone experiencing update problems with Fedora at the moment ?
I keep getting restarts and Gnome 3 boot failures into old desktop.
Then restart and I get Gnome 3 again after a restart and then it wants to
do updates again.
And the whole thing goes in a circle.

Syncevolution: will not sync local contact data with could
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
I've been using a Memotoo, a cloud-based service, for syncing data between
my desktop and devices.
However, while using syncevolution's gui I get the following message:
There is problem w/ the local database; syncing again or rebooting may
help
Syncing again doesn't help; rebooting (the machine?) doesn't either (is
there something else - evolution-data-server? - that can be rebooted).
Digging deeper there is the following message:
[2013-01-27 20:35:40.237] error code from
SyncEvolution fatal error (local, status 10500): addressbook: reading all
items: Cannot get contact list: Contact not found
So, it seems that some sort of index or file has been corrupted. Is there
a way of rebuilding it?
Currently, I have no problems working w/ my contacts/addressbook in
Evolution itself.
I also have no problem syncing my calendar to Memotoo.
Much thanks in advance for all advice and suggestions,
Max Pyziur

Dear All,
Is it possible to uninstall rpms from a computer that does not boot
and using a live CD? If so, how? (The computer runs Fedora 18.)
Thanks in advance,

RPM wildcard question
by Doug
If you have a directory with a whole batch of RPMs, all part
of some program suite, is it possible to use a wildcard to
install all of the RPMs at once, like so:
rpm -Uvh *.rpm
If not is there some other simple way ot do it? The program
in question has about 20 RPMs. (No, I don't know why they
did it this way.)
Thanx--doug

F18: bumblebee/bbswitch stopped working after latest update
by Alexander Volovics
Anybody else noticed that bumblebee and bbswitch stopped
working after the latest update to Fed18
(kernel-3.7.4-204.fc18.x86_64, xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-1.0.6-1.fc18.x86_64, etc.)
This on a laptop with optimus (intel/nvidia).
Could the fact that "/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch" is
now a default entry and that "vga_switcheroo" is enabled have anything to do
with it.
dmesg |grep switcheroo

F17->F18: Where'd my audio input go?
by Richard Shaw
Well, it looks like the pulseaudio GUI changed again. I no longer have
a tab where I can select the particular audio device and configure it.
I have two sound cards, one built-in which had sound quality issues
with 5.1 playback so I bought a Asus Xonar which is quite nice.
Under F17 I configured the Xonar for playback only since the inputs
were not supported by Alsa at the time, they may or may not be now.
Then I configured my built-in device for input only for ham radio
digital mode decoding.
Now under the F18 gui it looks like it tries to enumerate all the
inputs but the *only* input listed for the built in audio is the
iec958.
Alsa-info output:

F18: kworker is using up a lot of CPU
by Eberhard Schruefer
Hello,
I installed F18 on a Samsung NP700Z7C-S04 laptop. It is dual boot with
WIN 8 and has UEFI enabled,
but secure boot is disabled. I'm seeing kworker using up around 80% CPU
time constantly and the
laptop is running hot.
I found several similar reports on other lists. Suggestions found there
like having acpi=noirq and others
didn't help.
There is a closed bugzilla (Bug 840862) suggesting to do the following
to find the cause of the problem:
echo workqueue:workqueue_queue_work > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/set_event
cat /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/trace_pipe > out.txt
In out.txt I find
CPU:3 [LOST 12401 EVENTS]
<idle>-0 [003] d.h. 1010.943940: workqueue_queue_work:
work struct=ffff880328a55910 function=acpi_os_execute_deferred
workqueue=ffff88032d856b40 req_cpu=0 cpu=0
<idle>-0 [003] d.h. 1010.943969: workqueue_queue_work:
work struct=ffff880328a55ad0 function=acpi_os_execute_deferred
workqueue=ffff88032d856b40 req_cpu=0 cpu=0
<idle>-0 [003] d.h. 1010.944000: workqueue_queue_work:
work struct=ffff880328a553d0 function=acpi_os_execute_deferred
workqueue=ffff88032d856b40 req_cpu=0 cpu=0
The acpi_os_execute_deferred message is showing up endlessly.
Also suggested in the bugzilla is doing
cat /proc/2/stack
[<ffffffff81082425>] kthreadd+0x1e5/0x1f0
[<ffffffff8163dfac>] ret_from_fork+0x7c/0xb0
[<ffffffffffffffff>] 0xffffffffffffffff
What to do with this information?
I'm running kernel 3.7.4-204.fc18.x86_64 (the earlier F18 kernels showed
the same behaviour).
Any help would be appreciated. Should I sent this to another list?
Thanks.
