Ethernet Card Recommendations?
by KC8LDO
I'm looking at adding in a PCI Ethernet card to experiment with Ethernet
bridging using the motherboard gigabit chipset with it. The motherboard
chipset seems to be working OK and I would like a recommendation for an add
in card that is known to work fine with Linux. A 10/100 or a 10/100/1000
card would be fine. I don't need anything fancy but it has to have a low
profile bracket to fit in a Gateway or HP slimline case.

F13: Unable to mount ntfs-3g, option: 'context=' no longer supported?
by Dan Thurman
Some weeks ago, I have installed F13 on a system
and for some time, I have successfully mounted all
of my partitions as defined in my fstab file.
But today, I have rebooted this F13 system and for some
reason, it was unable to mount any of my ntfs filesystems
with an error message: "ntfs-3g-mount: Invalid argument",
for each ntfs partition defined in the /etc/fstab.
I can manually mount a ntfs-3g partition to /mnt,
I can see the contents and context and every thing
seems fine for this ntfs partition.
I did:
# mount /dev/sdaX /mnt (it works)
# mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdaX /mnt (it works)
# mount -t ntfs-3g -o context="system_u:object_r:samba_share_t:s0"
/dev/sdaX /mnt (breaks!)
The problem is that the context=XXX option is no longer recognized, or
so it seems.
The fstab entry breaks as well for ntfs:
LABEL=Ap1WD1 /md/Ap1WD1 ntfs-3g
context="system_u:object_r:samba_share_t:s0" 0 0
So what is the problem?

Bash - file line to array
by Bruno Galindro da Costa
Hi!
Is there any other method to transform lines of a file to an array
variable than these bellow?
### MY FILE CONTENT ####
# cat file
[SERVER1]
IP=0.0.0.0
[SERVER2]
IP=0.0.0.0
### METHOD 1 ####
# CONF=( $(cat file) )
### METHOD 2 ####
# CONF=( $(<file) )
If I execute these two methods on GNU bash, version 3.00.16(1)-release
(i386-redhat-linux-gnu) (bash-3.0-31.el4.i386.rpm), I´ll give this result in
array:
# echo ${CONF[*]}
1 IP=0.0.0.0 [SERVER2] IP=0.0.0.0
If I execute these two methods on GNU bash, version 3.1.17(1)-release
(i686-redhat-linux-gnu) (bash-3.1-16.1.el5.i386.rpm), I´ll give this result
in array:
# echo ${CONF[*]}
[SERVER01] IP=0.0.0.0 [SERVER02] IP=0.0.0.0
See the diference? The version 3.00.16 replace the string [SERVER1] by 1,
and the version 3.1.17 do nothing.
Why??!! This is a BUG?

User space governor for Athlon64
by JD
Running F13 32 bit.
There are these frequency apps:
/usr/bin/cpufreq-aperf
/usr/bin/cpufreq-info
/usr/bin/cpufreq-selector
/usr/bin/cpufreq-set
It seems they either require a user space governor, or o support is
availbale.
To wit:
$ sudo /usr/bin/cpufreq-selector
No cpufreq support
$ lsmod | egrep 'freq|power'
cpufreq_ondemand 7826 0
$ sudo /usr/bin/cpufreq-set -f 2200
Error setting new values. Common errors:
- Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?)
- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?
- Trying to set an invalid policy?
- Trying to set a specific frequency, but userspace governor is not
available,
for example because of hardware which cannot be set to a specific
frequency
or because the userspace governor isn't loaded?
So, I searched the kernel for the governor module, but found none.
$find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name \*gov\*
$
It comes up empty
I configured and built the kernel with
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_PERFORMANCE=y
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_PERFORMANCE=y
The documentation says:
2. Governors In the Linux Kernel
================================
2.1 Performance
---------------
The CPUfreq governor "performance" sets the CPU statically to the
highest frequency within the borders of scaling_min_freq and
scaling_max_freq.
However, I do not find the module cpufreq_performance.ko in
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/....etc
Also, I am unable to set the min or the max frequency. To wit:
$ sudo /usr/bin/cpufreq-set -d 2200MHz -u 2200MHz
wrong, unknown or unhandled CPU? <<< man page says default is 0
Error setting new values. Common errors:
- Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?)
- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?
>>>> Only governor loaded is cpufreq_ondemand. cpufreq_performance did
not get built.
- Trying to set an invalid policy?
- Trying to set a specific frequency, but userspace governor is not
available,
for example because of hardware which cannot be set to a specific
frequency
or because the userspace governor isn't loaded?
>>>>> So where is the user space governor? The values I set are in
megaherz but perhaps they need to be in gigaherts???
So, I tried to specify the cpu as 0:
$ sudo /usr/bin/cpufreq-set -c 0 -d 2200MHz -u 2200MHz
wrong, unknown or unhandled CPU?
Error setting new values. Common errors:
- Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?)
- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?
- Trying to set an invalid policy?
- Trying to set a specific frequency, but userspace governor is not
available,
for example because of hardware which cannot be set to a specific
frequency
or because the userspace governor isn't loaded?
Could someone tell me where I can find the user space governor, and/or
force the build of cpufreq_performance.ko ?

kernel update breaks virtualbox
by Walter Cazzola
Dear Fedorians,
I'm a new user of fedora 13 and I use a virtualbox installation on it.
Unfortunately the last two kernel upgrades (2.6.34.6-54 and 2.6.34.7-56)
didn't correspond to an upgrade of the kernel modules necessary by
virtualbox (vboxdrv, vboxnetflt, and vboxnetadp); this impedes the
normal behavior of virtualbox.
Running yum update I simply get the message that everything is up to
date.
dkms is installed and running and also the virtualbox repository is
installed (it comes from http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads).
The installed packages are:
kmod-VirtualBox-OSE-2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64-3.2.6-1.fc13.5.x86_64
VirtualBox-OSE-3.2.6-2.fc13.x86_64
kernel-2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64
kernel-2.6.34.6-54.fc13.x86_64
kernel-2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64
kernel-devel-2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64
kernel-devel-2.6.34.6-54.fc13.x86_64
kernel-devel-2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64
kernel-headers-2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64
dkms-2.1.0.1-1.fc12.noarch
I'm keeping all these kernels since in the older one virtualbox is
working
what I'm doing wrong?
thanks for the help
Walter
