Kernel update scrambles catalyst driver output
by Peter Boy
Folks,
the latest kernel update for Fedora 12
(kernel-2.6.32.21-168.fc12.x86_64) leaves me with a scrambled screen
using the catalyst driver (ATI Radeon HD 3470). Reverting back to
kernel-2.6.32.21-166.fc12.x86_64 resolves the problem.
Unfortunately, the free ATI driver is not an option because it's dual
DVI monitor setup doesn't work since several releases (BZ entry in
place).
I suppose, fedora project doesn't care about catalyst (for good
reasons), but who does?
Thanks

gdmsetup
by Gregory P. Ennis
Dear List,
On older versions of Fedora we could use gdmsetup to restrict the logon
display choices to certain users. In other words certain users could be
displayed as legitimate logon users and other users could be hidden from
being displayed.
I think somewhere after Fedora 8 gdmsetup was removed from the package.
Is there a way to do the same with F13 using the gnome gui?

Disable SSE3 routines in glibc
by Thawan Kooburat
Hi,
Because of my work, I need to prevent glibc from using SSE3 routine
such as __strncpy_ssse3 even though the machine supports those
features.
My current solution is to recompile glibc from source rpm. However, I
am not sure if there is a flag that I add into the spec to do what I
want.
There seems to be --host option of 32-bit that allow me to target
specific CPU (i[345]86) but I don't see if there is a similar option
for x86_64 machine.
Any suggestion?

What am I missing here? (sha256sum)
by Tom Horsley
I just downloaded the f14 RC3 iso and the checksum file from
the same directory:
zooty> ls -l
total 3443676
-rw-r--r-- 1 tom users 740 Sep 21 00:59 Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-CHECKSUM
-rw-r--r-- 1 tom users 3517335568 Sep 21 11:00 Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-DVD.iso
-rw-r--r-- 1 tom users 5526034 Sep 21 11:00 temp.get
When I check the checksum, I get this:
zooty> sha256sum -c Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-CHECKSUM
Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-DVD.iso: FAILED
When I calculate the checksum, I get this:
zooty> sha256sum Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-DVD.iso
24d764247508f18c19fdceb2d9f2bf714e3615a722f20c64a0ed365f3b7af885 Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-DVD.iso
When I grep the matching file out of the checksum file I get:
zooty> fgrep DVD.iso Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-CHECKSUM
24d764247508f18c19fdceb2d9f2bf714e3615a722f20c64a0ed365f3b7af885 *Fedora-14-Beta-x86_64-DVD.iso
Why on earth does it tell me the checksum failed?
