Hybrid SLi Laptops
by n2xssvv.g02gfr12930
I know nVidia in their (wisdom?) have dropped the idea of supporting
hSLi in Linux, so I was wondering if I can ever expect to be able to use
the more powerful graphics potential in Linux?
Since updating to the 2.6.32 kernel,if I enable hSLi Linux fails to
boot. I suspect this is because it detects the other GPU but cannot
initialise it properly.
Rest assured I am well pleased with Fedora 12 and KDE 4.4 and wish to
express my appreciation to all those people that made it possible, and of
course the people who provide valuable feedback and assistance on this
forum.

sound card not detected on FC12 out of the blue
by Emerson French
Hi,
It has been several years (literally) since I have had major sound problems
under Linux, since sound support has gotten much better. However, my sound
recently stopped working, and I'm mystified. I'm using an HP Pavilion
dv9700, which I believe uses an Intel HD audio card. I've gone through a few
kernel upgrades on this machine recently, but support for these cards is
enabled, so I can't imagine that's the issue. My sound card isn't listed on
inspection of /proc/asound/cards and /dev/dsp is missing, though with the
deprecation of OSS maybe this isn't even an issue. I'm pretty familiar with
Linux, but not so much with sound cards, so I'm not really sure where to
begin in resolving this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fedora 12 does not work after replacing the motherboard
by Andrew Junev
Hello All,
I kindly ask for your support. On my MythTV frontend-only machine, I
had to replace the motherboard. The old motherboard was an ASUS P5KR
(Intel P35 chipset), and the newly installed motherboard is an MSI
P43T-C51 (Intel P43 chipset). The old MB wasn't faulty - I just had
to urgently use it in another machine.
Everything else in this system remained basically the same - CPU,
Video, etc. My video adapter is NVidia 8600GT made by ASUS (don't
remember the model exactly). I am using proprietary NVidia driver from
rpmfusion.
With the new MSI MB, the system just hangs when booting into graphical
mode (runlevel 5), and there seem to be no errors in /var/log/messages,
dmesg or in Xorg.log.
If booted in runlevel 3 (text mode), the system seem to work, but
there are several kernel oopses coming right after boot:

If I do an 'init 5' while I'm in runlevel 3, I can see Xorg starting
and occupying all of the CPU resources (so that my PC doesn't respond
to keyboard at all, and remote SSH sessions are also interrupted).
Again, I don't see any obvious error messages in the logs when the
system stops responding...
I made a 'yum update', getting all the packages up to date. It didn't
change the behavior at all...
I thought I could reinstall the system completely, but Fedora 12
install DVD also stops responding shortly after the "Check
installation media" step - before actually starting the installation.
At the same time, Fedora 12 Live CD boots up fine (in Gnome) but stops
responding after a few minutes.
I thought this could be a hardware issue. I checked the RAM with
memtest (well, 2 passes went without errors, then I interrupted it).
Then I installed Windows XP - to test if it will fail. XP worked good,
I installed all the drivers and noticed no stability problems at all.
So this looks more like a software incompatibility to me, rather than
a hardware issue (still, I'm not 100% sure)...
Unfortunately my knowledge of Linux isn't any good to be able to
track the problem. Could you please help me to investigate it further?
I can run any tests / provide logs, dumps, etc. Just need to know
where to go and how to look for a solution...
Thanks!
Here are some details for now:

Hulu.com and 64-bit Problem?
by Andre Robatino
This problem has existed since around January 9. At first, Hulu claimed
that everyone just had to update their Flash version. When people did
this and still reported having the problem, they started ignoring
reports. Lots of archived comments at
http://www.hulu.com/discussions/9
with not a single response by Hulu (the relevant threads are the
non-sticky ones with thousands of views).

What's your fave--Gnome or KDE
by Temlakos
In looking over the reviews of Fedora 12, I was shocked that a big piece
of the possible Fedora 12 experience is missing: KDE.
I just discovered KDE. I don't know why I didn't use it sooner than
this. Now is it just my brand-new hardware, or the massive improvements
that Fedora has seen over the last several years, or is KDE the desktop
to beat?
Sure, I had a learning curve--like how to use the new Desktop Folder as
a widget, and how the wallpaper actually shows through it wherever you
need to place it. And how to use Desktop Activities, and the K App
Launcher. But these seem vastly superior to Gnome. Add to it that I've
been using a lot of KDE-specific apps, all of which had a problem
loading into the Gnome system tray--but with KDE, no problem.
I can't be the only KDE fan here. What does everybody else think?

postfix issue...
by bruce
hey
I know this isn't an OS question, but I'm lost!!
New to configuring Postfix, with a few questions about how to configure Postfix.
I'm running Fedora, with Postfix, from the basic yum install. The
Sendmail process has been stopped.
I can easily send a basic test mail from the cmdline. Ie:
mail foo(a)gmail.com
subject: blah
test
.
Cc:
works with no issue. However, the email on the gmail end, is in the
Spam folder, which is to be expected.
As I understand the different articles I've seen, Postfix can be
configured to allow me to authenticate emails, to in effect,
relay/send them using the authenticaion of a valid email user/passwd
from a valid gmail account. (or from my own isp user/passwd). This
would then allow the emails to be in the Inbox folder!
I've seen a great deal of online articles, but I'm still confused as
to exactly what's required to make this happen.
I know that the main.cf, as well as the transports/sasl-passwd files
have to be modified. I'm confused as to whether certs are actually
required, or if TSL is/is not required....
So, I'm trying to figure out exactly what config files have to be
modified, as well as what has to be inserted in the config files.
If I could see the confi files from someone who's actually gone
through this process, I could more quickly get my head around what
I've screwed up!
Thanks

brand new chinese mobile phone: webcam usage
by Hiisi
Dear list!
I've a nice chinese mobile phone [1] and would like to use its webcam
on F12 [2]. Connecting it through ISB-cable results in errors [3]. I
can't find appropriate solution in google. But as I can see there's
some problems with usb 2-2 support in my kernel and this particular
phone model. Is there an option I should add to kernel boot parameters
[4] in order to disable USB 2 support? Will it work after that? Is
there a better solution?
Thanks in advance!

SMS server/gateway
by Jamie Bohr
I am looking for a SMS server software for RHEL.
The phones we use can receive email but it does not always get to the phone
in a timely manner and sometimes I get "connected refused" when trying to
send messages via email. I've looked at smstools and Googled around but
would like the forums opinion on what they have used and experiences.
Thank you for your time,
