Could someone list the procedure to do this (I have the iso images on
disc)? It's not in the Installation guide.

Re: Beginners System Log Viewer? Nvidia GLX?
by ron
>Have you tried upgrading to the latest kernel and Nvidia driver?
I upgraded to this kernel and Nvidia driver:
(yumex) Installed: kernel-smp-2.6.16-1.2080_FC5.i686
This package includes a SMP version of the Linux kernel. It is
required only on machines with two or more CPUs as well as machines with
hyperthreading technology.
Install the kernel-smp package if your machine uses two or more CPUs.
(yumex) Installed: kmod-nvidia-smp-1.0.8178-6.2.6.16_1.2080_FC5.i686
This package provides the nvidia kernel modules built for the Linux
kernel 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5smp for the i686 family of processors.
and it works. The smp kernel works for amd 3000+ with hyperthreading.
I also had to change my
/boot/grub/grub.conf
file on the boot drive to reflect the new kernel.
Now if I can just find that KDE log viewer???

Hello,
I know that there is a bug report on jumbled desktop icons upon
rebooting (especially with the home folder). Has this problem been
fixed yet? Has anyone else been affected by this problem?

start_udev crashes diskless boot in FC5
by Saurabh Jain (सौरभ जैन)
Hi!
I am trying to boot FC5 disklessly. Things worked well in all FC
releases so far. In FC5, the start_udev script crashes the system.
This is because when udevd is started from within it, it makes the
network device vanish. What could be the possible reason for this? Is
there a way of rolling back to a working udevd/kernel? Is there some
major change in the FC5 architecture/boot process that I should know
of?
Thanks

Hotmail and sendmail server
by Amrit Angsusingh
I use FC 3 with sendmail and squarail webmail as my mail server for my
company for a couple of years without any problem but since two months ago ,
my mail users included me could not receive the email from hotmail if they
have some attachments. We can receive all mail from gmail , yahoo ...etc
with attachments but not from hotmail. We can deliver and get to text mail
from hotmail too . When I asked hotmail support ,they suggested me to look
at the server whether any filtration or not. but I have no idea what happen
to my server and where should I look for.
As I know nothing is set just on squarail webmail I set the spamcop via them
menu of my squarail mail but I disable it already. Anybody know what's wrong
with my server? Thanks.
--------------------- here is the answer from hotmail support -------------
Dear Amrit,
Thank you for writing back to MSN Hotmail Technical Support.
I apologize for the delayed response. Recently, we received an extremely
high volume of e-mail messages and are working diligently to catch up.
My name is Val and I understand that you are having an issue receiving
messages from MSN Hotmail accounts using your company's e-mail address.
Amrit, I know how important it is for you to have this issue resolved.
Please accept our deepest apology for the inconvenience this has caused
you.
I have checked the bounce message that you have provided and based on the
code that was included in the message, the messages were successfully sent
from the MSN Hotmail server. It seems that your company's Web server is
having issues receiving messages from MSN Hotmail.
In this regard, please contact your e-mail administrator regarding this
issue. They might be having issues or implementing restrictions in
receiving messages from Web-based e-mail services such as MSN Hotmail.
You are a valuable customer to MSN and we are glad to give you consistent
and effective service.
Thank you for using MSN Hotmail.

FC5 problems on K8N4-E mother board.
by jery_wang
Until now I was used to run Fedora core 4 on a PIII class computer without any major problem.
Recently I have built a new computer based on an ASUS K8N4-E mother board+Sempron 3100+ CPU (64 bits)+ASUS AX300SE-X graphics card.
I tried to install Fedora core 4 and first I got problems with a SATA disk (Fedora not able to detect it). I have installed a PATA drive instead of the SATA one and then I could install core 4 but since I experience problems with sound (which is no more available) and with my USB memory key (which is no more readable). I also tried to install ATI drivers and could not compile them, consequently I keep poorest graphics performances than with my old TNT2 graphics card and my PIII CPU (even with OpenGL programs)!
As soon as Fedore core 5 has been available I tried to install it and I have experienced the same kind of problems (no sound, no USB key, poor graphics performances). I tried to upgrade the kernel without getting better behaviour.
To check my hardware I have installed a Windows XP SP2 (sorry) and everything appears to run smoothly. I have also tried to install a Mandriva free distribution, sound and USB work, graphics performances are better.
Has someone else experienced the same kind of problems with this hardware configuration? If yes thank you to help me finding a solution, until now I have too much appreciated Fedora distribution to let it down.

IMAP (cyrus or ?) or POP (dovecot or ?)
by Dan Thurman
Folks,
I have been using dovecot for quite some time now, and
it has worked but it is rather limited for what I want to
do. I did not install IMAP because at the time, it was
too complicated to get it working or setup.
But now, that I want to use IMAP for the express purpose
to manage ALL of the user's mailboxes to prevent mailbox
bloat, or to centralize or redistribute messages to other
internal email servers.
What do you use or recommend using for managing your
email server on Fedora, i.e. IMAP or POP? At this
time , it seems there are only one of two choices,
available: Cyrus for IMAP or Dovecot for POP.
Kind regards,
Dan

Building amsn
by Ali Helmy
Hey mates,
I could not find a pre-built package for aMSN for FC5, so I downloaded the
source files to try and re-compile it on my system... However, when I used
./configure, I got (in addition to numerous lines that went fine):
checking for prefix by checking for wish... no
which: no tclsh in
(/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/java/jre1.5.0
_06/bin:/home/ahelmy/bin:/usr/java/jre1.5.0 _06/bin:/usr/java/jre1.5.0
_06/bin)
checking tcl build dir... configure: error: Unable to find Tcl directory or
Tcl package is not tcl-dev
So, can anyone help me out with how to solve that?
Thanks
