Samba
by Dan Shelstad
Hello,
Looking for help with Samba. I can see the shares on the Fedora machine
from my windows machine. It asks for a user name and pw and does not
allow me to access it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

vmware player can't configure itself on 2069
by Claude Jones
running /usr/bin/vmare-config.pl as I always do after a kernel update I get
the following
None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Player is suitable for your
running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for
your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]
Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your
running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
The path "/usr/src/linux/include" is not an existing directory.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your
running
kernel?
[/usr/src/linux/include] /usr/src/kernels/2.6.16-1.2069_FC4-i686/include
The kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the same
address space size as your running kernel.
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your
running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
Normally, I would just take the defaults, but, after the first failure to find
the /usr/src/linux/include directory, I poked around and found an include
directory at /usr/src/kernels/2.6.16-1.2069_FC4-i686/include, but it didn't
like that, either.... Anyone else get this? Found a recent thread here on
Fedora-list about vmware, but, it didn't seem to apply, as the problem was
with xinetd - not with a directory not found - this has worked through seven
or eight previous kernel upgrades for me.

Unable to get Atheros based drivers working
by Jeffrey D. Yuille
I have a Linksys Wireless card, model wpc55ag. I am using a Dell
Inspiron 4000 laptop and have FC5 installed with the Gnome desktop.
This card worked perfectly under FC4, using the madwifi drivers but I
cannot get it recognized in FC5. I would click on Desktop-System
Settings-Network, I would come upon the Networking Configuration tool.
When I click on New-Wireless Connection, I would only see "other
wireless cards". The system does not even see my card, despite already
having installed the kmod-madwifi drivers. How can I corrct this
problem? Is this a problem for others (or is this a bug?) ?

What does a clean install leave in /usr/X11R6
by Paul Johnson
I got the idea that the new xorg did not use /usr/X11R6 at all. But
after I did an FC5 upgrade on an FC4 system, it left behind a bunch
of files under /usr/X11R6. The RPM system says they are not owned by
any package, possibly a result of some install from source code that I
did way back when. So it would help me if somebody with a brand new
clean FC5 install would show me the output of
find /usr/X11R6/ -name "*"

I believe the procedure outlined above is the same procedure you
can use with the Fedora Boot install CD.
That is what I have done after upgrading to a new hard drive
to reinstall grub.

network viewing
by Bob Schmidt
Hi All,
I am running Fedora core 5, I have a problem viewing computers on our
home network. It sees the computers, but when I click on them they tell
me that it can't open, could pose a threat, if I didn't create. The it
tells me to rename using samba name.
Okay, I'm new to fedora, what the heck does that mean, and how can I get
my computer to allow me to get into the other computers on our network.
I like this new distribution, but this is a little frustrating.
Tanks for your help,
Bob

Apache on FC5? Missing: mod_access.so ?
by Dan Thurman
Folks,
I disabled thttpd and enabled httpd (apache's web server)
and tried to start it but it failed. Reported missing was
the file: mod_access.so and it is not installed in /etc/
httpd/modules directory.
What is going on?
Kind regards,

FC5 not detecting the FC4 RAID-1 install
by Jack Howarth
I have a user who was attempting to upgrade his machine this
weekend from FC4 to FC5 (both x86_64). However it seems that the
Fedora Core 5 installer is not detecting the previous Fedora Core 4
installation on his RAID-1 partitions. The installer jumps right
from asking for the localization language to the disk partitioning
screen. Is anyone else seeing this problem? Any suggestions on how
to debug why FC5 isn't detecting the FC4 installation on the md
partitions?

Yumex proxy problem
by Michael D. Setzer II
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I just upgraded my classroom lab to FC5 from FC3 with a clean install. The
system is behind another Fedora system with a squid proxy server. After
setting up the network proxy with the ipaddress:3128, I found that yumex
would come up with the proxy, but would then fail. After doing some trial and
error, I found that if I changed the yumex proxy setting to include
http://ipaddress:3128, then it would work.. Not sure why this occurs?
The other thing that doesn't seem right, is that running gedit and vncviewer
from a terminal window, the gedit and vncviewer password screens pop up
behind the terminal window, which then requires one to click the window.
