by Ali Helmy
Hey mates,
I followed the simple steps offered on the gmail help site about configuring
gmail with thunderbird
Then I enabled pop access from settings in my gmail account on the web
Now when i try to make thunderbird connect, it loads a little while then
says connection to pop.gmail.com timed out
any ideas?

Thanks.
Drivers are in the kernel (/lib/modules/<specific
kernel>/kernel/drivers/... and there are two of them, radeon.ko and
radeofb.ko. These are always part of the kernel rpm, loaded as modules.
Are you suggesting there are additional drivers? Back "in the day,"
matrox distributed proprietary linux drivers. I am unaware that ATI
distribues them for the radeon.

trigger scim
by Yuandan Zhang
Hi,
I updated to FC5(fresh installation). the scim was installed too. However, I
can't trigger scim. there is link at the home dir
.xinput.d/default -> /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim
the
/etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim is
XIM=SCIM
XIM_PROGRAM=scim
XIM_ARGS="-d"
GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
SCIM_QTIMM_XINPUT=/etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim-qtimm
[ -r "${SCIM_QTIMM_XINPUT}" ] && . ${SCIM_QTIMM_XINPUT}
unset SCIM_QTIMM_XINPUT
# override with xim for now
QT_IM_MODULE=xim
The scim setup, ctrl+space was set to trigger scim, but there was no
response after hit ctrl + space.
if i log in, setting chinese as the system language, the trigger command is
working, but not when set English as the system language. how to fix this?

FC4 - system crashes due to promise disk controller on Gigabyte 7DXR mobo
by Vijay Gill
Hi,
My system crashes sometimes (but keeps on going for days at a stretch
if in good mood) and it does everytime because of problem with my
hard-disk controller. I have checked the hard-disk and there is no
problem with it.
Hard disk is: Seagate ST3200822A
Chipset is VIA686A
Problem creator is Promice Disk Controller: PDC20265.
If the information is not enough then I can provide more.
Thanks
Vijay Gill

FC5-radeon issues
by hansel@hansel.mnstate.edu
My laptop (radeon 7500 CRT video) will not output video to a CRT. Text
(boot screen, text terminal) works.
When an FC4 workstation with radeon 7500 RV200, dual head, installed (yum,
cron job) the newest kernel (2.6.16-1.2069_FC4), all X11 does is clone the
display. Rebooting to 2.6.15-1.1833_FC4 solves this.
It smells to me like an xorg configuration issue. The laptop (which is not
physically where I sit) has no explicit LCD/CRT reference. (The gateway
bios correctly says use both LCD and CRT for video.) The workstation
defines two screens, but does not use the framebuffer (there was no fb for
the radeon family when I initially set up this machine). The radeon
driver man page now refers to fb.
On the other hand, the workstation issue did not appear until 16-1.2069
and reverting a version makes it go away.
I am not at the point of treating this as a bug, hence have not made a
bugzilla report, but I need to fix the laptop issue very soon (like,
very desirable to be done before Monday AM ).
Thanks.

Strange hangups on fedora core 4
by Niklaus
Hi,
My kernel is Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 #1 Thu Jun
2 22:55:56 EDT 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux.
I have been running it for a long time . My file system is ext3.
Whenver i compile a program or untar a file like gcc , all the songs
that i am playing stops for around 2 secs . Even bash doesn't respond
for 2 secs. I have 3 Ghz Cpu and 1 GB of RAM and my harddisk is pretty
fast.
Throughout the 2 secs i can see the harddisk light green. It is
accessing the harddisk. I tried hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc. I don't know why
but in windows i don't have that problem . I think earlier (about a
year ago )i had debian , i never had this problem. Can you help.
Regards
Nik

FC5 Gtk fonts -- not as nice as FC4?

Am I the only person who thinks that the font rendering in Gtk
applications has regressed between FC4 and FC5?
