rh-errata
by William Shotts, Jr.
rh-errata is a tool for maintaining the integrity of a Red Hat Linux system.
It builds a respository of RPM files from a designated mirror of the Red Hat
updates site. It only downloads RPM files that have not already been
downloaded. Optionally, it can produce a report that shows which RPM files in
your respository need to be updated and which ones have already been
installed.

writing double layer Dvd's
by Ric Moore
Sure, I could Google, but I don't trust "them" as much as I do you. I'm
about to write an iso file to a double layer Dvd. I'd like to hear just
what is a good burn speed. The box sez no more than 8X. Well, what would
be better? 1X? 2X? 4X? I'd rather it not take the weekend to burn 7.4
gigs. But, these darn disks are expensive. I really don't want to make a
$4 coaster. What say you?? Any caveats? Thanks, Ric

Unable To Boot From DVD disk
by Jeffrey D. Yuille
Hello,
I found an old Fedora Core 3 DVD disk laying around and I decided
to see if it could boot fromit on my IBM ThinkPad T-30. To my surprise,
I was able to boot from this disk. I have an NEC 8-X DVD +R/RW
Dual-Layer Burner which I bought a few days ago. I have burned several
Fedora Core 6 DVD iso images to disk but I am not able to boot from any
of these disks. I am more than sure that it is not the bios setup of my
computer because I have set it to boot from the CD-ROM setting. The
only thing left that I can think of is that it may have something to do
with the media. I am using DVD +R media, 16x. I also notice that the
Fedora Core 3 DVD disk is not purple on its burn side (it is clear)
whereas the DVD disks that I burned the images to are purple. Is the
reason why they may not be bootable? Has anyone else had this problem.
I don't believe its because of the hardware (even though the laptop
itself is almost four years old). Has anyone been able to successfully
burn bootable Fedora Core 6 iso images to DVD disks? May it have
something to do with the boot loader? Any help is appreciated.

FDS, automount nfs
by Karl J South
Hi,
I wonder if there is anyone out there who knows of a howto or can give
the steps in how to setup FDS providing automount maps.
I've tried accomplish this myself, but automount only gives me one
error or another.
I don't know why but there seem to be little information about doing
this with any ldap server. Perhaps this is a not that common setup?
Thanks in advance,
/kjs

Yes - I've been through all the settings. Everything looks as it ought.

Unable To Boot From a Fedora Core 6 DVD Disk
by Jeffrey D. Yuille
Hello,
I was able to use a Fedora Core 6 DVD disk that I created and load
it into a Windows laptop that belongs to a friend and found that it
boots fine into Linux. The problem sees to be with my own laptop. I
already have Fedora Core 6 loaded on it. The laptop is an IBM ThinkPad
T-30. I have an NEC-CD-RW/DVD+RW Drive which I bought recently for this
laptop. However, whenever I put the disk into my drive to boot from it,
it only boots to the hard drive. Would this have anything to do with
Anaconda? I already have changed the bios settings that would allow the
laptop to boot from the cd-drive. Has anyone else had this problem and
if so, how do I correct it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sony vaio and projector
by Amadeus W.M.
I'm trying to get my sony vaio laptop to display correctly on a
projector.
The laptop has a wide screen and normally X runs at 1200x800 while the
projector has the usual 4:3 aspect ratio. I read the projector could do
1024x768 but I couldn't get it to do anything finer than 640x480.
On the laptop I'm running compiz, with the nvidia driver.
I booted the laptop with the projector plugged in and I did get X to
display on the lcd, with no changes to the xorg.conf. Due to the
difference in resolution between the laptop and the lcd, the xclock
appeared about 1/4 screen on the projector, and a shell took up the whole
screen (on the wall). I added
Modes "640x480"
in my xorg.conf to lower my laptop's resolution - didn't help.
How do I set this up correctly? Do I have to configure dual head monitor?
Does it depend on the projector? On the fact that the laptop is a sony?
I have a major talk in less than 2 weeks and I have to give some live
demos, so I'm in dire need for help.
Thanks!
