Hi,
Can you tell me how to add additional repos to smart? The basic set
(core, extra) work fine, but I am having trouble figuring out the
correct base URLs for livna and freshrpms. Do these also use the same
"rpm-md" format?
Thanks.

Cannot Boot FC6 Install DVD(s) on Athlon 64 System
by Rick Bilonick
I have two Athlon 64 systems both running FC5 and almost identical (same
motherboards, memory, etc.). Both had newer DVD reader/writer drives. I
had originally installed FC3 on both from DVD without problems. When I
tried to install FC5 from dvd, they would boot and get almost to the end
of the installation before failing (nicely destroying the working FC3s).
I had a rewritable CD/DVD reader drive that I put in each machine and
was able to install FC5 without any problems. I left the rewritable
CD/DVD reader drive in the last machine I installed FC5 on.
Now I want to install FC6. I burned two copies of the DVD. Trying to
avoid problems I thought I would start with the machine that currently
has the CD/DVD drive in that worked with FC5. But FC6 does not boot at
all. I get a message saying it's booting from the CD/DVD but after a
time out it fails. I tried the other machine with the newer DVD drive
and it boots FC6 and I'm able to test the DVDs (both copies pass the
test). The machine with the CD/DVD drive won't boot either. I'm afraid
to try to install on the machine that has the newer drive for fear that
the install will fail part way through.
At this point I'm not sure what to do. It's like a giant step backwards.
I'm downloading the 6 CD iso's now. Should I just install from the CDs?
(I'm hoping the CD install doesn't fail.)

Might explain why some apps requiring sound are barfing. Ric

Cisco VPN Client on FC6 failed, missing config.h
by Thomas von Steiger
I have try to build cisco vpn client (latest version) on fc6.
There is /usr/include/linux/config.h missing.
On FC5 this headerfile comes from glibc-kernheaders.
In FC6 there is no glibc-kernheaders.
Knows anybody where this File is or in which rpm ?
Many thanks for any information,
Thomas

bcm43xx wireless stops periodically.
by Kim Lux
I am running my Broadcom wireless card with bcm43xx (and fwcutter)
versus ndiswrapper like I have done for the last 2 years.
My wireless connection stops working periodically. /etc/init.d/network
restart gets it going again every time.
Does anyone else have this problem ? Should I report this to Redhat's
bugzilla database or is this a kernel issue that should be reported
elsewhere ? Or should I discuss it in the test-list or devel-list
first ?
Thanks.

PCI BIOS error - FC6
by Chong Yu Meng
Hi all,
Since doing a clean install of FC6 on my laptop, I'm getting this error:
PCI: BIOS Bug: MCFG area at e0000000 is not E820-reserved
I'm using a Asus A3E notebook. Checking through the archives, only one
other person seems to have got this error, and the fix was to download a
new BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer. I checked the Asus site and
my BIOS is up to date -- mainly because the BIOS does not seem to have
been updated since 2005, when I bought this laptop!
Anyway, the error is kind of annoying, though it doesn't seem to affect
normal operations. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Regards,
Pascal Chong

Fedora Core 6 ROCKS ! Salute to the developers !
by Kim Lux
I've been running FC6 for a few days now, intensively. I upgraded from
FC4.
Although there are few minor bugs and glitches, FC6 totally rocks. Its
faster. Its cleaner. Its nicer. FC6 is by far the nicest OS / GUI that
I have ever used. (I run KDE btw.)
I can't believe how much nicer konqueror is now. It never crashes on
any web page and that is saying something because previously it was
prone to crash. Good work.
I'd like to take this opportunity to salute all the people who
contributed to the production of FC6. You did a great job and should be
very proud of your efforts.
Thanks and keep up the good work !

Where is kernel module tda9887
by Faust Nijhuis
Hello
I upgraded from fedora 5 to fedora 6 and now there is no module tda9887.
I even search the source of the kernel (2.6.18-1.2798.fc6-i686) but
didn't find it.
Has anyone the same problem?

First, you have to make a choice. The livna repository has an RPM that
you can install through yum. To the best of my knowledge, livna has
been doing a good job of keeping ndiswrapper current whenever a new
kernel appears (it has to match the kernel version). The other option
is to get the source (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/) and
re-compile ndiswrapper whenever there is a new kernel (make clean; make;
sudo make install). I went with compiling my own because I like knowing
what's going on. Perhaps some other contributors to the list can chime
in with their recommendations.
Either way, you now have a built copy of ndiswrapper installed. Now you
need a copy of the Windows XP driver for your NIC. The files are
available from a variety of locations on the 'net or you should have a
driver CD that came with your laptop or wireless NIC. See
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?Installation for how
to "install" the Windows driver files so that ndiswrapper can find them.
Once everything is in place, you need to edit /etc/modprobe.conf.
Remove or comment out the reference to bcm43xx and add something like
"alias eth1 ndiswrapper". After modprobe.conf references ndiswrapper
you can do a "modprobe ndiswrapper" to load the kernel module (you may
need to also "rmmod bcm43xx"). At this point, you can set up the
wireless NIC through the network configuration app. There are some
how-tos available on the 'net, also.
Cheers,
Dave
