wireless network configuration
by Amadeus W.M.
In my network configuration gui, under my wireless interface second
stanza - the one wity "Automatically obtain IP address with dhcp" - is not
sensitive. I can't select anything from there. I can only give myself a
static private IP address, and that's fine at home, but I'm at work now,
and I need to be able to get an address via dhcp.
Is anybody else seing this? Is there a reason for it? But in the GUI?

FC6
by Fong Vang
I've been using Xen on FC4 and FC5 (and CentOS). I'm trying to
ugprade to FC6. However, I'm having problem getting a CentOS domU to
boot. The guest is complaing that it can't mount the root file
system.
This is my xen cfg file:
----
kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen"
memory = 1536
name = 'dsv'
vcpus = 2
vif = [ 'bridge=xenbr0' ]
disk = [ 'phy:xenvg/dsvdb2,sda1,w', 'phy:xenvg/dsvroot,sda2,w',
'phy:xenvg/dsvswap,sda3,w', 'phy:xenvg/dsvusr,sda4,w',
'phy:xenvg/dsvvar,sda5,w' ]
root = '/dev/sda2 ro'
extra = "3"
on_reboot = 'restart'
on_crash = 'restart'
on_reboot = 'restart'
----
On bootup, this is the error:
VFS: Cannot open root device "sda2" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block(0,0)
Nothing gets written to the xen log files. I tried with and without an ramdisk.
I read on the net that dom0 and domU can use the same kernel. Is this
not true. I don't see a kernel-xenU kernel so this must be true.
What am I missing?
Thanks for help any.

FC6 - Openoffice printing problem
by Frank Cox
I have a remote CUPS printer set as the default printer on this machine. I can
print to it with anything other than OpenOffice. When I select that printer in
OpenOffice, it gives me the print window with the Options button clickable, but
the Print button greyed out.
I can print an OpenOffice document to the local printer that's attached to this
computer, and I can print the test page to the remote printer through spadmin.
I can print to the remote printer using Gnumeric and other applications too.
But I can't print an OpenOffice document to the remote printer.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Ian. Sadly I had already tried that, but
have just repeated it with no improvement. I have also forced all the
packages with "python" in the name too, just because I don't really know
what it is complaining about.

any reason to use Sun's Java?
by Globe Trotter
Hi,
I was planning on, switching completely to the opensource java that comes with
FC6. Is there anything that I will be missing?
My status wrt java is that i am an end-user. I don't develop java applications.
I do run whatever someone else makes up....
Any suggestions?
Best,
Trotter

2200 Kernel Udev DElay During Boot
by Bob Chiodini
Machine Dell Optiplex GX270 with 2 GB of memory.
Booting the 2200 SMP or UP kernel delays of a very long time (82
seconds) at Starting udev.
A little debugging puts the delay in /sbin/start_udev in the
wait_for_queue() proc waiting for /dev/.udev/queue. In the second while
loop. $loop reaches a value around -775. It varies a little.
>From start_udev:
wait_for_queue() {
timeout=$((${1:-0} * 10))
loop=20
while test ! -d /dev/.udev/queue; do
usleep 100000;
test "$loop" -gt 0 || return 1
loop=$(($loop - 1))
done
loop=$timeout
while test -d /dev/.udev/queue; do
usleep 100000;
if [ $timeout -gt 0 -a $loop -le 0 ]; then
echo -n "Wait timeout. Will continue in the background."
return 1
fi
loop=$(($loop - 1))
done
return 0
}
The delay does not happen with the 2187 kernel, nor on an x86_64 machine
with the 2200 kernel.
Anyone else seeing this?

selinux problem
by Eric Tanguy
I use a java vpn client which modify /etc/resolv.conf to add dns address
for the vpn network and delete these lines at the end of the connection.
It seems this is a problem with selinux which detect something wrong. I
found this in /var/log/message :
restorecond: Reset file context /etc/resolv.conf:
user_u:object_r:etc_t:s0->system_u:object_r:net_conf_t:s0
and my vpn connection does not work when selinux is enabled and works
fine when selinux is disabled. How to solve this ?
Thanks

FC6 experiences
by Kwan Lowe
Successfully installed, but a couple issues:
Installation
Ran into the mirrors problem with Anaconda recording "fatal error". Kickstart and
manual install without Extras ran fine.
Usage
Secondary head did not configure properly. I ran the Display Configurator and
selected a dual head display and chose a 1280x1024 LCD panel. On restart of X, the
second display kept flashing. I had to modify the xorg.conf to comment out the
HorizSync and VertRefresh lines for the second head and restarted X before it
stabilized. I know in the past putting in the sync/refresh was needed, but maybe
it's better to put the lines in but comment them out and rely on DPMS.
eth0 came up fine via DHCP. Wireless card still no luck but I haven't done any
troubleshooting. It's a Broadcom card that required ndiswrappers previously.

Re: FC6 aiglx/compiz
by Josh Coffman
sry, for top posting.. its an issue with yahoo right now....
I'll be doing this myself and had wondered about the new GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap option in the beta driver.
I think it needs to be enabled in xorg.conf before aiglx can be turned on for nvidia cards.
I could be wrong, but that might need to be set manually before aiglx can be enabled.

Subject: FC6 aiglx/compiz
Hi everybody,
I'm trying to get aiglx/compiz to work on my FC6 box, I installed the 9626
beta driver from livna, which is working fine. However, every time I try to
use the 'Desktop Effects' application in Gnome to enable the 3d effects I
get the following error message:
'Desktop effects could no be enabled'
I've searched the logs for a more detailed error message, unfortunately I
didn't find any. My card is a Geforce FX 5200, my xorg.conf is listed below:

# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder3) Wed Sep 20 16:56:19
