But vpnc fails at re-encryption time which is after 8.36 hours at my
university. Cisco-client just keeps running.

Problem with fetchmail + ssl
by Timothy Murphy
I use fetchmail to collect some of my email,
and I've just started getting the following complaint:
-----------------------------------------------------
fetchmail: Server certificate verification error:
unable to get local issuer certificate
fetchmail: Server certificate verification error: certificate not trusted
fetchmail: Server certificate verification error:
unable to verify the first certificate
-----------------------------------------------------
However, the email seems to come through.
I seem to have a valid cert.pem in what I take is the standard place,
/etc/pki/tls , on my Fedora system:
-----------------------------------------------------
[tim@alfred ~]$ openssl verify /etc/pki/tls/cert.pem
/etc/pki/tls/cert.pem: OK
-----------------------------------------------------
Is there a second certificate that openssl liked?
I couldn't find any intelligible documentation on openssl,
or rather on how it functions.
Any advice or pointers gratefully received.
Is there something I should (or can) do?

cifs issue
by Matthieu Boucard
Hello,
i'm trying to use CIFS to mount a NT filesystem on my FC5 system
here's the line from my /etc/fstab :
//saturne/users$ /home/matthieu/saturne/users cifs
user=INFO/mbd%mypasswd,uid=500,gid=500 0 0
it's ok, but then i have to cd to 'mbd' which is my private directory
on this NT file server (saturne). I would like to mount directly on
//saturne/users$/mbd
on a NT box, the command :
net use K: \\saturne\users$\mbd /USER:INFO\mbd mypasswd
gets the job done, so I tried to translate it in CIFS this way :
//saturne/users$/mbd /home/matthieu/saturne/mbd cifs
user=INFO/mbd%mypasswd,uid=500,gid=500 0 0
but when i try to :
# mount /home/matthieu/saturne/mbd/
i get this error message :
retrying with upper case share name
mount error 6 = No such device or address
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)
Thanks for your help ! :)

i586 and i686 kernels: which one is the best choice?
by Paul Smith
Dear All
On the mirrors, it can be found two kernels: the i586 and the i686. My
processor is a Pentium Dual Core. Which one should I choose? Is it
indifferent to choose one or the other?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

printing problem
by Peter Lesterhuis
Hi,
Since upgrading to fc6 I can't print to my local printer. The weird
thing is that I can't even configure the settings of the printer in the
cups web interface (localhost:631) because the connection to the server
breaks down ("Unable to connect ... Firefox can't establish a
connection to the server at cello.localdomain:631.")
Using the gui system-config-printer something similar is happening:
whenever I make a change in the settings and click on the
"apply"-button, an error message is displayed, stating: "there was an
error during the CUPS operation: 'server-error-internal-error' ".
After this cups has to be restarted.
In fc5 all worked well. The printer is a hp psc 2410.
After a failure of cups there is this message in /var/log/messages:
Oct 31 11:08:10 cello kernel: audit(1162289290.918:22): avc: denied {
write } for pid=10039 comm="cupsd" name="hp.ppd" dev=dm-0 ino=7177492
scontext=user_u:system_r:cupsd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023
tcontext=system_u:object_r:cupsd_etc_t:s0 tclass=file
Does this indicate that it is a selinux problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
Peter.

Significant boot error message ?
by Bob Goodwin
When I boot FC6 I get a few error messages:
Red Hat nash version 5.1.19 starting
usb 1-2 device not accepting address 2, error -71
ata2; port failed to respond (30 secs)
ata2: SRST failed (status 0xFF)
ata2: SRST failed (err_mask=0x100)
ata2: SRST failed (status 0xFF)
ata2: SRST failed (err_mask=0x100)
ata2: SRST failed (status 0xFF)
ata2: SRST failed (err_mask=0x100)
ata2: reset failed, giving up
Reading all physical volumes. _etc. things proceed normally
after this._
Other than that everything seems to be working. The only usb
device connected to the computer is a cheap looking Dell mouse
that came with it. FC6 Linux is installed on a second sata
drive since the computer came with Windows XP which I elected to
keep intact.
Other than the time it spends doing whatever this indicates,
slowing the boot process, I don't see a problem. But I would
like to "fix" it if anyone has any idea what it means.
Thank you.

fc6, livna and 'spurious' totem-xine update
by Alexander Volovics
After installing some livna packages I am plagued
by a pesky announcement of an update for totem-xine.
How can I get rid of this spurious update announcement.
Totem (core) and totem-xine (livna) seem to contain
some common files.

FC6 fuse problem
by Genes MailLists
I have installed fuse and fuse-encfs. I am unable to run this as non-root
user - i.e. a permission problem.
I notice on boot that there is an error message (which may not be related?)
Oct 30 22:21:27 foo udevd[411]: add_to_rules: invalid KERNEL operation
Oct 30 22:21:27 foo udevd[411]: add_to_rules: invalid rule '/etc/udev/rules.
d/60-fuse.rules:1'
The udev file contains
KERNEL="fuse", NAME="%k", MODE="0660",OWNER="root",GROUP="fuse"
This is the same as fc5.
lsmod shows fuse module in indeed loaded.
However any attempt to do anything (sshfs or encfs) yields
fusermount: failed to open /dev/fuse: Permission denied
unless the fuse mount is run as root.
fusermount is setuid - and the user is a member of group fuse (neeeded as
fusermount is setuid and runnable only by group fuse).
Suggestions?
