My apologies to the group for the html crud. Of course it isn't
desirable. Thanks for pointing it out.

That did the trick; thanks.

Typo (missing k)? Should be /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0

automount windows 2000 share
by Edwin Dicker
Sorry for my previous HTML post.
Hello guys,
I'm trying to automount some shares from XP and W2K clients on my FC4 box
using autofs.
All automounts to the XP clients are working, but to the W2K client are not.
Manually mounting the W2K share works with : mount -t cifs //w2ksuus/d
/tmp/test -o username=name,password=passwd
This is in my /etc/auto.master :
/misc/w2ksuus /etc/auto.w2ksuus.misc --timeout=60
/misc/wxpedwin /etc/auto.wxpedwin.misc --timeout=60
/misc/wxpkim /etc/auto.wxpkim.misc --timeout=60
and this in my /etc/auto.w2ksuus.misc :
c -fstype=cifs,username=name,password=passwd w2ksuus:c
d -fstype=cifs,username=name,password=passwd w2ksuus:d
I've tried to change fstype to smbfs and smb but nothing works, except for
the manual mount method described above.
The username and password are the correct ones, and the XP and W2K clients
are not in a domain.
After every change I restart autofs.
The message in /var/log/messages is :
Jan 28 19:40:39 storm automount[9872]: >> mount error 13 = Permission denied
Jan 28 19:40:39 storm automount[9872]: >> Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual
page (e.g.man mount.cifs)
Jan 28 19:40:39 storm automount[9872]: mount(generic): failed to mount
w2ksuus:c (type cifs) on /misc/w2ksuus/c
Jan 28 19:40:39 storm automount[9872]: failed to mount /misc/w2ksuus/c

Can anyone help ?
Thanks in advance,

Thanks to Andy and everybody else who answered my questions. Eventually,
I've found a different solution for the time being. Suse 10.1 beta 2
seems to already have all the needed patches. Sure enough the installer
worked without problems and so did onboard ethernet. Since I* have* to
finish some long and already terribly overdue reports with OpenOffice 2
asap, there was little choice.
I still like Fedora better though :-) and will surely try to install
FC5 final when it's released.
See you soon and thanks again

query to Debbie Deutsch re: running FC on external USB
by Claude Jones
There's been some discussion over on Fedora-test about this, and some off list
discussion. I was unsuccessful, as others, to get FC to run on an external
USB drive. Kernel panics, lost VG, etc. problems. Would you mind posting how
you got it to work, if you had to do something different than a default
partitioning, or whatever?

stop UBC use by filesystems
by Terry Horsnell
Many (maybe even most) applications we run, read or
write their data in streaming mode, and there would
seem to be no advantage in passing this data through
the UBC first, since the data is not re-read within
a short time. In fact it slows the response time of
the system because the UBC consumes large amounts of
system memory if these files are large, and then
there is a (sometimes substantial) delay while
enough UBC is flushed to disk to make way for a
new application to run.
1. Is there a way to restrict the amount of
memory consumed by the UBC?
2. Is there any way of mounting a filesystem
such that its data doesnt pass through
the UBC at all?
Cheers,
Terry.

redirect xwindow
by roland
The following situation:
I am using VNC and on the desktop I start Putty to connect to my
application. In the application, p.e. creation of contracts for leased
cars, I do a system call which brings me down to a Linux shell, where I
can execute the command 'display' (system "display carpicture.jpg"). As
you already understand, I want to display the picture of the car.
After the execution of 'display carpicture.jpg, I get the error:
display: unable to open X server
So when I enter the following:
$ export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
$ xhost +1
still nothing happens.
When I open een Terminal window as user Roland, the picture is
displayed, without the commands above.
Is there anybody who understands this.
One should be clear, I am using VNC not MSwindows. I have the same
problem with Ltsp.
I browsed the web for some howto's on this, but I still do not
understand.
