Disabling kudzu during reboot -- Solved!
by Benjamin Sher
Dear friends:
After some research in Google, I found the solution. Couldn't be simpler:
As root, type:
#/sbin/chkconfig kudzu off
That's it! Reboot and you'll see that kudzu is gone forever. Good riddance!
Of course, if you need it again, just type:
#sbin/chkconfig kudzu on

X and Composite extension
by malcolm
I currently have Suse and KDE with the 'composite' extension and it does
all sorts of nifty drop shadows and transparency stuff - However this is
neither my favorite distro or my favorite desktop. Does FC4 and Gnome
do this wonderful eye candy ?
thanks

Need info about setup of successfull FC4 install servers.
by Paul Elliott
I have an install server that works for FC3
but not for FC4.
I need info about how to setup a FC4 install server.
What does the line in /etc/exports that
nfs shares the directory look like? Options?
What is the directory structure of that directory?
That is, relative to that directory as the "top level",
where are the .iso files located? Where are
all the files from the CD roms (or DVD) located?
Thank you if you can send me this information.

sftp -s <batch> refuses to connect
by Ralf Corsepius
Hi,
Since having upgraded to FC4, I am experiencing a strange problem with
sftp -b <batch>
"sftp -b <batch> user@somesite" refuses to connect:
# sftp -b upload.ftp user@somesite
Permission denied (publickey,password,keyboard-interactive).
Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer
While "sftp user@somesite", i.e. interactively using sftp, works:
# sftp user@somesite
Connecting to somesite ...
Password: ...
ssh and scp access to the same site also works.
Any ideas?

How do I get rid of Kudzu?
by Benjamin Sher
Dear friends:
Every time I boot up Kudzu insists on checking my hardware.
Specifically, checking my printer. I configured my printer a long time
ago in Gnome and it works perfectly in both Gnome and KDE. But the
hardware configuration box keeps showing up every bootup. I've
considered removing it but yum tells me that if I do, I'll have to
remove all of KDE. So the obvious question is: how do I disable it so it
NEVER shows up again during bootup or whenever unless I personally
invoke it?
Thank you so much.

In praise of vnc on the installation line
by Javier Perez
Hi
I think the installation team should place also vnc as part of the
information material regarding options to set on the command line
before intallation.
I have an nvidia system that was going to give me problem with X
during the installation. Text installation is not nice yet because
there are some things that you can set up for installation in graphic
mode but not intext mode (LVM, individual packages,etc.).
But reading TFAs I came across the other options applicable and vnc.
It sure was fun to start an installation, tell the system to do an NFS
installation and then go to my VNC client to continue the installation
as if I wer on the graphic console. Neat!
Now I just have to install the nvidia drivers and off I go!
(BTW, the system is attached to a TV, that's why I did not have a monitor )

I was ready to reply that I couldn't find "Server Settings" either! I happened to look under the "Desktop" menu item and found it there. (I was looking under "Applications.")
Thanks!

Cannt switch to virtual terminals after init 5 On FC4

hi,
Whenever I started X Window in FC4, I cannot switch to my virtual terminals using Ctrl-ALT-Fn. There is no "DontVTSwitch" Option in the file xorg.conf. Can someone tell me why?

where's apr-config
by Mike Carifio
I'm trying to build mod_ruby. /usr/bin/apr-config appears missing on FC4.
How do I install it? Alternatively, a mod_ruby rpm i386 will do it. Tx.
