FC3: ISDN loading failure
by Antonio Montagnani
I upgraded from FC2 to FC3, everything is o.k with the exception of the
ISDN card.
During the start up I see the Failure red mark during loading of the
ADSL system (that was working on FC2):
The card is recognized as from the output of sbin/lspci

Mail server?
by Lyle Kopnicky
Hi, I'm setting a machine up as a mailserver. I have never configured a
mailserver before and sendmail sounds intimidating, but I'd like to make
sure the server is compatible with spamassassin and other tools.
Recommended - sendmail, qmail or postfix?

Selecting a window manager
by Paul Michael Reilly
Why does Gnome (and Fedora) not have a Window Manager preference
selector? I can kind of understand why Fedora would not distribute some
Window managers that do not comply with the things that a distributor
would like a good citizen window manager to comply with. But surely
there is more than one good choice and hence it would be a good to allow
Users to choose alternatives to Metacity. And to be able to add a
window manager to that chooser. Having to simultaneously kill one WM
while starting up another on the command line seems so twentieth
century. I have a hunch this might be as much a political issue as a
technical issue, but I could be wrong. :-)
FWIW, I've used Metacity now for a month or so, since FC3 came out, and
it is OK but I sorely miss the sawfish Moondome theme (which cannot be
done for Metacity as near as I can tell) and the "resize to max
(vertical or horizontal) and lock" operation. Are there any FC3 users
who are still using sawfish without hassle?

Install other Apps - HOW TO
by Terry R. Grier
Hello.
I have installed my first linux. Fedora3.
I want to use Thunderbird / and other programs.
I have read the manuals on redhat
Installation guide
Getting Started
and
Customize
And I cannot find a section that discusses how to install programs.
>From Mozilla it says that there is not install. you just download and "run" TB.
Couple of questions.
Where do I put programs? In the Home? or another dir? Opt?
I downloaded the Gzip and then extracted it in my home.
Then I went to ACTIONS and RUN "thunderbird"
nothing happened.
Please Advise ...
Respectfully,

dovecot mailserver, switching from mbox to maildir
by Götz Reinicke
Hi,
after switching from wu-imap to dovecot I had a couple of problems.
After accepting some of the problems as given, I found some hints,
telling me to move my system from using mbox to maildir.
So how to do that?
What software has to be configured? Sendmail? Procmail?
How to migrate mboxes do maildir?
Any hints would be fine!
Regards
Götz Reinicke

Tricky Network Configuration Suggestions
by mkgriffin@adelphia.net
Please forgive the length of this message.
I have a production server (serv1.domain.com) and a test server (test1.example.com) that is a duplicate of the production server. They are on two different networks (serv1.domain.com:10.96.10.100; test.example.com:172.16.0.100). The test server is behind an iptables-based router that is masq'ing it's IP. I want to allow certain clients to access the test box, but they are all on the the 10.xxx.xxx.xxx side of the router. I would welcome suggestions for how I might do this.
Thank you.

problem with setarch
by David Jansen
I found the advice (here on the list, and on Dag's excellent
compatibility tweaks page) to use the option -L to setarch in order to
run a program that depends on a legacy virtual address layout.
On FC3, this indeed solves the problem I was experiencing, but
unfortunately, the version of setarch on FC2 (setarch-1.4-1.i386.rpm)
doesn't have the -L option.
On a test machine, I upgraded to setarch-1.6-1 from FC3 and that seems
to work, but I am a bit affraid to run this in a production
environment. After all, it is something which changes the behaviour of
the operating system at a low level, and for mere mortals like myself,
that is not something to upgrade lightly from a non-standard channel.
I entered a request for enhancement in bugzilla,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=141622
Comments and suggestions welcome...

Cron output on gnome
by Rodolfo Alcazar Portillo
Hi all. Im trying to popup a daily message from cron. My newbie personal
crontab has just this:
28 15 * * * /usr/bin/zenity --info --text "Prepare results report"
Ok, but this can't find my display, so it just will send me a error
mail. How can I raise a window with zenity from cron?
TIA, best regards.
