Courier-0.47 RPMBuild error
by Fedora List Subscriber
Hi list
When trying to build an RPM [yes, I don't have an anvil to drop on my
foot instead! ;-P ] in FC2 (patched up2date):
// rpmbuild -ta -v courier-0.47.tar.bz2
results in the following error:
// A few lines of output to indicate at what stage this failed ...
//
// Processing files: courier-debuginfo-0.47-1.2
// Requires(rpmlib): rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1
// rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1
//
RPM build errors:
File not found by glob:
/var/tmp/courier-0.47-1.2-buildroot/usr/local/bin/*
but ../usr/local/bin is symlinked to the directory above the directory
I'm building in.
Google searches rendered little to work on.
I would appreciate any insight for a workaround, or alt sol'n.
Thanks in advance.

Problem with fresh update of RH9-> FC2 ... net card driver fails
by Tony Dietrich
I have recently moved to FC2 from RH9.
The system is dual-boot with WinXP, and had data on the home partition I
didn't want to lose, so I downloaded the isos to the home partition and
tried installing from the HD. This install failed.
I backed up, removed FC2, installed a plain RH9 system, then upgraded
that system from the HD FC2 isos.
Installation went perfectly, except....... the netcard on the system
will not activate.
Symptoms:
The system detects the DEC21040 card perfectly.
lspci -v reports the card correctly, installed on IRQ11 with no conflicts.
however, modprobe fails :-(
dmesg reports that modprobe fails becasue either there is a problem with
the compilation of the tulip drivers, or there are incorrect parameters
being used somewhere.
The reported path to the driver is correct. To the best of my knowlegde
all the required driver files are present.
Anyone have any ideas please?
I'm new to working with hardware drivers, so be gentle with me please <g>

scripts won't execute
by Andrew B. Young
I'm stumped. I have two separate script files that are *identical*,
but one executes as expected, the other does nothing. The only
difference between the two is how they were created. The one that
does execute was created in /root and then moved to /var/www/cgi-bin.
The one that does not execute was created directly in
/var/www/cgi-bin. Why should this cause a difference? Here are some
details.
-andyy
# Here is where I am--
[root@iolon240 cgi-bin]# pwd
/var/www/cgi-bin
# This is what the two files contain--
[root@iolon240 cgi-bin]# cat ./test.sh
#!/bin/sh
echo "asdf"
# Here I run the two files and see a difference
[root@iolon240 cgi-bin]# ./test2.sh
asdf
[root@iolon240 cgi-bin]# ./test.sh
[root@iolon240 cgi-bin]#
# Here is a listing of them to show identical modes
[root@iolon240 cgi-bin]# ll test*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 23 Nov 17 11:28 test2.sh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 23 Nov 17 11:22 test.sh
# I diff'ed the files and get nothing
[root@iolon240 cgi-bin]# diff test*

Re: FC3 disc1 has error - md5sum is correct
by Adrian Pitulac
I have the same problem also.. I'm pretty sure it's not a burning error
because I have tried burning those ISO's on a second CDRW. I have tried
with the test function in anaconda all 4 cd's of the FC3 distribution.
All were FAIL. I'm trying now to download from other mirror or maybe
better from fedora directly. If someone had this problem please tell us
ASAP!
Thanks a lot.

USB Keyboard and mouse problems
by 杨 王
Thank you so much for helping.
I have a DELL keyboard which has two USB ports. First I attached the keyboard to computer's mainboard, and then I attached the Logitech optimal mouse to the keyboard.
There weren't any problem during installation process of FC3.
But during the period of configuration of first login, Fc3 didn't recognize my mouse and keyboard. And my optimal mouse seemed to be powered down without any light in it.

PPP and ip-up
by S J
Hi,
I have just found out that the following command
|lynx -source -auth=username:password
'http://dynamic.zoneedit.com/auth/dynamic.html?host=www.mydomain.com'|
will automatically update my (dynamic) IP address on my DNS server
(Zoneedit in my case) whenever it changes.
My questions are :
1)Does FC3 use PPP?
2)Do I have to configure PPP : ip-up/ip-down?
3)Where do I put the above command? Do I put it in 'ip-up.local' or
'ip-up' or 'ppp.linkup' or 'dhcpcd-eth1.exe' ?
Thanks.

When trying tot modify yum.conf from the command line (terminal - su -

No modifications appear in the yum.conf file.

Dual boot winxp and fedora core 3
by Quebec Drive
Hi,
Has anyone tried to dual boot win xp and fedora core 3 yet? Has the issue
with dual booting fedora core 2 and win xp been fixed with the new release
concerning the partition? I am also using a third party partitionning
software (partition magic) so I can easily boot fc, winxp and win2k. Thanks
to all future replies. Greatly appreciated. When I really get used to linux,
there will only be 1 partition on my laptop... Guess which one?!!
Don't call me, I'll call you!!!

ssh viewing mana pages, newb question
by ian douglas
Excuse the newb question, but this is irritating:
I'm connecting to a Fedora Core 3 box via SSH with Linux terminal
emulation turned on, and while directory colors show up, etc., all nice
and pretty, and vim syntax highlighting, etc., when I run the 'man'
command to view help files, I see extended characters and don't know how
to correct that.
For example, 'man CGI' produces the following:
start_html(’A Simple Example’),
h1(’A Simple Example’),
start_form,
"What’s your name? ",textfield(’name’),p,
"What’s the combination?", p,
checkbox_group(-name=>’words’,
where syntax highlighting should take place.
Any ideas on how I can correct this? Is this dependant on my SSH client
(securecrt)

KDE Application / KATE / tree-like-code
by vincent.herpelinck@tiscali.Be
Hi list,
I've worked with 'Kate' on Mandrake 9.2 and I'd like still using it.
On the left of the Kate's screen, there is a tree-like feature enabling
to collapse code in the same instructions blok. This is helpful to read
the code, and helps locating quickli.
The version installed with the Fedora2 DVD, seems to be bugged for this
feature.
i.e. it is unable to distinguish the left and right braquets denoting a
blok of code.
Is ther any update, for this?
