NTFS problem with new kernel
by BB Cao
Dear All,
I updated to the latest kernel today, everything works
fine except that I couldn't access to NTFS driver
anymore. The NTFS driver was figured out by helping
from some nice people on this list. Any clues please?
Thanks.

no linking from /usr/local/lib since FC2
by Greg Matheson
I had trouble installing subversion because dynamic linked
libraries in /usr/local/lib were not being found.
It seems that since FC2 you have to specify /usr/local/lib in
/etc/ld.so.conf and then run ldconfig.
With FC1 I didn't have to do this, I think. I guess that
/usr/local/lib was excluded unless specified to tighten up
security.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

RE: Apache 2.0.51 on FC2
by Dan Thurman
I was told from another user that apache 2.0.51 has
a serious bug and need to switch immeadiately to
2.0.52. I was not told if my senario of backspacing
was the related bug or not. Anyone know??

And how is this different from the OP's idea of creating .htaccess
files?

Back Firefox! Back!
by Robert G. (Doc) Savage
Having upgraded from FC1 to FC3 a few days ago, I now have Firefox 1.0
installed along side Mozilla 1.7.3. Now whenever I click on a link,
Firefox comes up instead of Mozilla.
Call me a heretic (or at least a mad monk), but I actually prefer
Mozilla over Firefox. At least under FC1 Mozilla didn't get confused and
bring up RealPlayer whenever I clicked on an .rpm file expecting to
download it. Short of deleting this new varmint, how do I restore
Mozilla to its rightful place as default browser on my system?

Kernel changes from 667 to 678?
by Ewan McPhail
Hi all,
I see there is a new version of the FC3 kernel out - i'm running 667,
and yum says 678 is now available.
Where can i find out exactly what has changed in the new version? I
haven't had any luck hunting down a changelog or anything similar.
Thanks in advance.

fedora core 3 and ghost
by Carrie Knox
Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has been able to successfully create a Symantec
or Norton ghost image of an FC2 or FC3 installed system.
In the past I have been able to create compressed ghost images of
various RedHat 9 and RedHat9/Win2K dualboot systems OK. After
installing Fedora Core 2 (and now Core 3), I am unable to create a
compressed Ghost image. I get this Ghost error "Application error
29004" "Read sector failure, result=1, drive=0, sectors -456237413 to
-456237411". This is not a failed device issue. I've received this
exact same error on several Fedora installed hardware platforms. The
disk type doesn't seem to matter. I am able to obtain a block by block
copy of the disk, but I really need the compressed ghost image that can
be reloaded onto a variety of disk sizes.
I'm using the GRUB bootloader and ext3 filesystems with the bootloader
located in the MBR. I've reverted to LILO as the boot loader with no
success... still get the ghost sector read error.
Initially, I was running Symantec Ghost 8.0, but have updated to
Symantec Ghost 8.2.0.1117 after contacting Symantec for assistance.
I've tried a variety of ghost options (-fni, -ffx,-bfc, -ib, -fdsz
-fdsp, -ffs, -fns, -fnu, -or). Ghost -ia and -id both worked.
Symantec support's final response was... "In regards to your issue with
Ghost 8.2.0.1117 when cloning Fedora EXT3 systems...
One would expect that cloning an EXT3 file system would be just that
simple. However, it appears that there might be something different when
using Fedora, perhaps something to do with the partition structure. We
suggest you continue to try the switches -IA -IB -FRO or -BFC as a
workaround. You can include compression with any of these switches. The
bottom line is that Fedora is currently not supported."
Has anyone had Ghost success with FC3? Any ideas on what might be
causing the "sector read" error during image creation?
Thanks,
Carrie

FC3: Power Management on Sharp MM20
by Frank
Years ago I was comfy with *nix, but that was years ago and much has
changed. I've recently switched my laptop from Windows to FC3 as part
of a plan to reverse the trend. It's been a rough ride.
Sound isn't working, but that's not a high priority for me. Power
management isn't working, and that really matters a lot. I need to slow
down the processor when I'm on battery or my battery life sucks.
I have acpid recognizing the AC_adaptor events, and I'm running the
following script (borrowed from somewhere and modified to add debug info.)
------
CPUNODE=/dev/cpu/0
LOGFILE=/var/log/acpid
MYNAME=$0
_log()
{
echo "[`date`]" $MYNAME $* >> $LOGFILE
}
_cmd()
{

}
_log $*
if [ ! -d $CPUNODE ]; then

_cmd mkdir /dev/cpu/0

if [ ! -c /dev/cpu/0/cpuid ]; then
_cmd mknod /dev/cpu/0/cpuid c 203 0

The device node in question does exist, but I get the same "No device or
address" error if I try to cat it. What more do I need to do to make
this work?
And a related question:
If I cat /proc/cpuinfo and it tells me a certain speed, is that the
maximum speed of the processor or the current speed?
I hope somebody can help. I've been googling and wrestling with this
for a week now.
Frank.

My applications can't see the Internet connection
by marte il guerriero
Hi.
I'd like to tell you that I like your Linux Fedora very much. But I also
have a little problem with it: I tried to connect to the Internet trough
kppp and everything was ok, I mean that I really was connected to the
Internet. The problem is that my application don't see my Internet
connection. For instance, when I open my Web Browser (Opera or Mozilla
or any) I can't see any web page 'cause my Web Browser can't see the
network. Note that I am connecting directly to the Internet and not
trough a proxy.
I am sure you'll be helping me.
Thanks
