Xine-out.wav?
by Patrick
After installing Fedora 3 and the latest Xine, I noticed a file appearing (xine-out.wav) when playing two movie-files at the same time.
One of the two comes with sound, the other doesn't.
It "dumps" the sound the the .wav file.
Does anybody have any idea how to change this?
I've been going through Google, the Xine site and the Fedora list, but couldn't find a suitable solution.....
Thanks!!

Keyboard configuration
by vincent.herpelinck@tiscali.Be
Hi,
I've recently installed Fedora2.
It seems that it doesn't keep the right keyboard configuration.
Upon installation of the OS, I've configured the Keyboard as a "be-latin1".
Now on each system start, I have to confirm this configuration to make that
active.
When I execute the system tool to select the right 'be-latin1' I see the
right configuration selected in the item list...
I just have to confirm this selection and the keyboard configuration is
right!
Does somebody knows how to make this configuration 'persistent' between
each system stop-start.
Thanks.
Next Question Soon ;-)

The vice-president of RedHat said his dad installed Fedora without help,

Problems while upgrading to FC3
by michal@cvu.wustl.edu
I have upgraded from FC2 to FC3, but I have encountered problem
when logging as a user using Gnome.
When I login I get the message
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correct
ly.
The Settings Daemon restarted too many times.
The last error message was:
Child process did not give an error message, unknown failure occurred
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.
The Main Menu does not work. When I left click it the whole panel blinks
and there is no menu. So, in order to logoff I had to do reboot.
I have followed http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2003-
November/msg01805.html, but this did not work when I logon again.
If I logon as root, Gnome starts without problems.
One more thing, when I invoke gedit as user I get the message
gedit: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgnomevfs-2.so.0: undefined
symbol: xmlNewTextReaderFilename and gedit won't open.
When I am logon as root, gedit start with no problem.
I can start KDE desktop as the user without any error messages.
Thanks,
Michal

[FC3] synaptics touchpad doesn't work at all
by Julian Mayer
hello all
i just installed FC3 on a Medion 5400 laptop (which has a synaptics
touchpad)
during the install i used a external USB mouse but since it only has
one button i wanted to get the touchpad to work (which doesn't work per
default).
it seems it is really impossible to get the synaptics touchpad working
on FC3, since kudzu doesn't see it at all:
"python
>>> import kudzu
>>> kudzu.probe(kudzu.CLASS_MOUSE,kudzu.BUS_UNSPEC,kudzu.PROBE_ALL)
[]
>>> kudzu.probe(kudzu.CLASS_UNSPEC,kudzu.BUS_PSAUX,kudzu.PROBE_ALL)
[Desc: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard
Driver: ignore
Device: None
]"
nevertheless i've tried the following:
1. adding
"Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Emulate3Buttons"
Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
EndSection"
to my Xorg.conf, but since /dev/psaux doesn't exist, it doesnt work
i also tried doing cd /dev;./MAKEDEV psaux
but when i did "cat psaux" it says something like "no applicable
device found"
in /dev/input only mice and mouse0 exist, which both only respond to
the external mouse...
if i disconnect the USB mouse, mouse0 disappears...and no input source
is left
2. i've also tried adding "psmouse.proto=imps" to the grup.conf, no
success
3. select the "synaptics touchpad" in system-config-mouse and do a
system-config-display --reconfig
by reading fedoraforums.org posts i know that the touchpad worked with
FC2, whats the deal?
can anyone help me?
thanks, julian

DVD/CDROM Grip problems after FC2 to FC3 upgrade
by alan haigh
After a blissfully easy upgrade, only 2 things seem to be amiss
1) yum config - but I can search the archives myself later
2) I have a DVD writer (Pioneer) on hdc, and after the upgrade Grip now
comes up with an error message "can't initialize /dev/cdrom" Also the
first time I put an audio CD in there the CD player came up, but with a
similar message (which is bizarre - it knew I'd put the disk in, but
couldn't see it) (I since disabled the "autoplay CD player")
This was all working fine before the upgrade, but I realise it's a DVD
writer and not a cdrom, so is there a setting I need to make somewhere.
I've tried some obvious things, but with no luck. My system sees the
drive in the hardware browser and "computer" desktop icon.
Thanks
Alan

Re: sata disk recognised - but can't mount
by Simon Schori
>I trust you mean "mke2fs" here, and not simply marking the partition type.

The mount command accepts the fs type before or after the paths, I tried
both, also without fs indication.
Fedora comp = server
Windows comp = workstation
In fact I did a 'mkfs -t ext3 /dev/sda1'. This ended in a total system crash.
I tried twice, and also with Knoppix (Kernel 2.4 and 2.6), but no goal. So
I formatted it the Windows computer with Arconis Partition Expert (yes it
does ext3 as well). But it was still unmountable.
Tomorrow I'll try it with Knoppix on the workstation, it has a Silicon Image
SATA controller onboard (Abit NF7-S 2.0). So I'll see if the Promise controller
is the troublemaker.
Another strange thing is: "unknown mass storage controller: Promise Technology,
Inc. PDC20375" - I thought the tx2 should be supported by the module sata_pomise
(which is loaded). The drivers available at Promise's website is for Kernel
2.4 only. Should I update my atalib to the most recent version? Maybe there
are som e options I have to change in my Kernel's config and recompile?

krdc and rdesktop - version issue
by Thomas DuVally
Anyone know why FC3 ships with a version of rdesktop that does not work
with krdc? krdc complains that rdesktop is version 1.3.1 (which it is)
and that it requires 1.3.2. That makes krdc a vnc frontend only.
Is this something that got overlooked, or is there a deeper reason?

FC3 - acpi and cdrecord...
by Giulio Sorrentino
On my machine acpi does not shutdown the pc: it completes the shutdown
sequence but does not power off.
If I boot with acpi=off parameter the pc power off, but I'm unable to
burn cd with k3b/cdrecord.
Have I a chance for obtaining all things?
Thanks in advance
