How to share a common partition as home
by Parameshwara Bhat
Hello list,
I try different distros of Linux on different partitions from time to
time. I want to move all my /home folders to a common partition so that
across all distros I can share it by mounting on home. When I implemented
it,I faced a problem. users do not get write permission on this partition
in spite of specific option to that effect in fstab.
/dev/hdb6 /home ext3
defaults,users,acl,user_xattr 1 2
I get the same error in all distributions. I cannot launch DM in user
account as there is no write permission available.
Could somebody point out where is the mistake ?
Thanking in advance,

Hadn't seen the latter, thanks. See also bug 139674 on Bugzilla.

problem in my php code
by Hongwei Li
Hi,
I have a problem in my php code. I simplify the code as the 4 pieces
below and hope somebody can help me to fix the problem.
1. tsstart.php: -- this is the start point to be browsed
<?php
include "tsdata.php";
include "tsshow.php";
?>
2. tsdata.php: -- to get data, here I set it as a 2-d array and assign
values to it to simplify the code
<?php
global $obj;
global $ind;
for($i=0;$i<3;$i++) {
for($j=0;$j<3;$j++) {
$obj[$i][$j] = $i + $j*2;
}
}
$ind=0;
?>
3. tsshow.php: -- display the values of $obj:
<?php
global $obj;
global $ind;
echo "result-set index: " . $ind . "<br>";
?>
<html> <body>
<table align=center>
<tr><td>First Row:</td><td><? echo $obj[$ind][0] ?></td> </tr>
<tr><td>Second Row:</td><td><? echo $obj[$ind][1] ?></td> </tr>
</table>
<a href="tsnext.php">Next</a>
</body> </html>
4. tsnext.php: -- to display the next 2-d array element's value:
<?php
global $obj;
global $ind;
$ind++;
echo "new ind: " . $ind . "<br>";
include "tsshow.php";
?>
Now, when I browse tsstart.php, it displays:
result-set index: 0
First Row: 0
Second Row: 2
and the link "Next"
However, when I click the link "Next", it displays:
new ind: 1
result-set index: 1
First Row:
Second Row:
no values are displayed. Apparently, $obj is not passed to tsnext.php and
tsshow.php (the second time), but $ind is. What is wrong in the above
codes? Can somebody help me?
I greatly appreciate all help!

Squirrel Mail Won't Send
by Christopher A. Williams
I'm building a system where people on a single machine can only send e-
mail via a browser to others on the same physical machine. Basically, we
want people to be able to message each other on a private system and are
using SquirrelMail for the front end. To do this, we set up a
Dovecot/SquirrelMail server that can only send SMTP mail to itself for
all practical purposes. Since we're behind a firewall with the system,
it can not send "outside" even if it wanted to.
It was pretty straight forward to set up the mail portion, but I'm
seeing SquirrelMail "weirdness". We can not send messages to other users
from the SM interface. If we use the "mail" command from the command
line, messages show up in the appropriate user's mailbox with no issues
and can be seen in SquirrelMail.
I'm sure I've probably just "brain farted" something in the SquirrelMail
config along the way. What could I have missed?
Cheers,
Chris

Considering there could be multiple installation faults I dowmlaoded and
installed yum again, but that does not solve the problem.
Getting desperate,

ok...I did the above as per shrek. All files do seem to be in place but
I am still at a loss of what exactly I am to do to get thru this
problem. I noticed that http.conf makes calls to load this module and of
course, loads of other modules; but I don't understand what role
subversion.conf plays...I don't know where it is actually called from
and I don't really understand what the example config for a "Subversion
repository is all about.
I think what I really need at this time is some direction as to
where/how to get smart on all this. RTFM is not anything new to me as it
is not to just about everyone here that participates in this forum but I
just need some direction on "which" FM to read and where to get it at!
lol Is this part of the selinux thing or what? I really dunno.
thx y'all

I have been having problems booting my machine in FC3.

I have not done that yet, I tried first disabling pcmcia, see below.

I tried that a couple of times, but never managed. I guess I am just
too slow. Then again, I actually don't know if this means 'press
<shift>+i' or just <i>?

That's the one I tried. And low and behold, FC3 boots up and lets me
log in and shows me a different desktop from FC2. Thanks a lot, James!

Didn't seem necessary any more.

Done that as well. I may change that again at some point, if I get fed
up with all that text.

There are lots more questions for me now. I am not sure if I should
start new threads for each one of them, please advise. The most obvious
one is:
Now that I disabled pcmcia, I suppose I won't be able to use my
wireless cardbus card (D-Link DWL-660). However, I'd like to use it.
How do I do that?
Secondly, what do you use to record CDs in FC3?
Thirdly, how can I mount my Windows partition in FC3 (showing my
complete ignorance again...)?
I also suffer from this 1400x1050 screen resolution problem which seems
to haunt many people. I'll see if I can follow what others have written
before I start bothering this list.
Thanks again, and let me know what I should do about the above
questions.

New yum setup
by WipeOut
Admittedly I am asking before I have tried..
How do the new yum repo setups work?
What I mean is in FC1 when i wanted to point to a specific mirror I
would put in the path of the mirror to where the headers directory was
located.. The new yum in FC3 seems to be using xml files from somwhere..
Where do I need to point it now? still to the headers directory are are
there some new directories?
