Re: ide tape drive issues
by Daniel Watrous
Richard,
Thank you for the reply. I read the tutorial that you mentioned and
performed the commands. Partial output is shown:
# dmesg | grep TAPE
hdd: Seagate STT20000A, ATAPI TAPE drive
So it appears to find the TAPE drive.
# /sbin/modprobe ide-scsi
FATAL: Module ide_scsi not found.
I suspect that this means that the ide_scsi is not installed, or not loading
properly. Do you know of a tutorial that addresses the installation of the
ide_scsi module?
Daniel

I upgraded to FC-3 on my laptop,
and then ran "sudo yum update",
which worked perfectly, downloading over 200 rpms.
But now when I run "sudo yum update" I get the error

Printing of multiple web pages
by Matt Morgan
We're lauching a new web site. The last editing step is for the editor
to view all the pages as formatted, content and templates together.
The editor likes to edit on paper, rather than on the screen. For the
moment, please ignore the issue that the pages will look a little
different when printed than on most screens--for these pages, it works
out pretty well.
The problem is, how can we easily print out about 500 web pages
without clicking onto each one of them and choosing file--print?
IE has a feature, in the print dialog (options tab) for printing "all
linked pages." I don't see something similar in Firefox or Mozilla,
and that's not exactly what I'm looking for anyway. What I'm hoping is
that some browser has a means for feeding it a formatted list of URLs,
which it will then download all at once, and be able to print all at
once.
I'm sure I could get this to work with curl or wget, but it's critical
in this case that we get printouts that are formatted as they will
look in a typical graphical browser.
Any ideas? Thanks,
Matt

FC3 - VMware can't remember its config after reboot
by Jean-Alexander Müller
Hello,
--- just before someone is asking for a solution ---
the switch to udev in FC3 requires a patch to the init.d script of
VMwareWorkstation-4.5.2-8848 (and probably similar Versions).
Otherwise, you have to run vmware-config.pl after startup.
I found a solution in the vmware-forum-archives ...
just patch /etc.init.d/vmware to install the required devices (vmnet...)

remote control of dual boot
by Stewart Nelson
Hi,
I have a conventional dual-boot system:
Win XP on IDE primary master, grub in MBR,
FC2 on primary slave.
If either Windows or FC2 is running, I can
access it with VNC. Of course, a reboot will
switch to the default OS, if the other is running.
However, I don't know how to switch back.
Is there a good way to boot FC2 from Windows?
Or to boot Windows from FC2?
If not, is there an easy way to edit grub.conf
from Windows, so I could change the default to
Fedora and then reboot?
Thanks,
Stewart

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic. The worst
scenerio is probably mixing top posting and bottom posting in
the same thread. The effort to follow the conversation can end
up exceeding the value of the conversation.
I have also noticed that some people, who appear very intellegent
by the content of their posts, always have their replys show up
as an attachment. I have "View Attachements Inline" turned on, but
they remain as attachements. Is this on purpose or an anomoly of
the combination of mail readers/posters used?

Evolution and proxies?
by Aaron Gaudio
Hi all,
I run Evolution within a firewalled corporate intranet which offers an
http proxy. Evolution does not seem to be using my gnome proxy settings
to fetch remotely shared webcal calendars. Is there any way to get
evolution to use the http[s]/SOCKS4 proxy?

flakey mouse problems
by rado
I can't say this is is an FC3 specific problem. I seem to have had a bad
mouse driver under FC2 but put it off til I upgraded just to see if it
would go away but it has gotten even worse! I mean like the whole screen
just fills up w/this and that or goes blank ...just seems to do whatever
the mouse wants.
I need to have some direction on how to change the mouse driver in FC3.
this mouse is just a plain ole logitech wheel mouse and runnin thru a
kvm switch but the problem is not the mouse...it works fine in the
windows box and the other 2 fedora boxes in this system...just this one
box here.
thx,
rado
