the panel menu icon
by Garrett LeSage
Hey all,
I have gotten quite a few requests to change the panel menu icon (a red
fedora), and have been several examples sent to me via email. For the
time being, there is no reason to change it (and therefore no real
reason to discuss it with many long threads or emails sent directly to me).
I do, however, really appreciate everyone's fervor and effort in wanting
to improve the desktop and willingness to contribute. (:
BTW: If you are interested in talking about other desktop-related
issues (user interface, artwork, default preferences, etc.), then
fedora-desktop-list is the place for you! You can sign up at:

Re: Fedora Brazilian Users.

Hi here,

Please, not there! I got many problems with yahoo: i cannot subscribe from any
list there, and the administratos never solved my problems.
I guess sourceforge would host this kind of project, maybe fedora project
itself. If none of those work, I'll try to setup myself on my hosting
(www.lozano.eti.br)
Some volunteer to contact sourceforge? If there's none, I can do this, but I
got a broken arm so I wish to keep typing to a minimum...
By the way, I have a 280+ pages tutorial on installing, using and administering
Red Hat. In portuguese, of course. It will be my donation to the "fedora
brasil" project. Some parts of it are outdated (wrote for RHL 5/6) but most is
still usefull, and with a little help it can become a great book on fedora. :-)

Re: Fedora Core 1 with Mozilla 1.4.1 and Java plugin 1.4.2 (for gcc32)
by listas@lozano.eti.br
Hi,
Try setting JAVA_HOME on your environment and JAVA_HOME/bin on your PATH. This
got rid of Java/mozilla errors for me.

vid card issue
by Michael E. Webster
I just switched to FC1 on my main workstation yesterday, and so far so
good. Kudos to the developers - keep up the great work!
The only problem I ran across was with my dual-headed Matrox G-450 video
card. Symptoms were very inconsistent. Upon initial power-on with the
first CD, when trying to launch X for the graphical install - the box
locked hard. Okay, I'll just install using text mode - I got all the
way through the install, then upon firstboot, X wouldn't start. The box
didn't lock, but I couldn't do anything since by default, init 5 is
spawned. I'll give this one more shot - I rebooted with the install CD,
this time X worked - at least for the install, but again during
firstboot it wouldn't. At this point, I decided that it was a driver
issue and pulled the card. I installed my ATI Radeon 9000 - graphical
install works, X starts during firstboot, no problems whatsoever. Just
wanted to pass along the problem that I had. Right now I'm just using
the one monitor, but I'll be testing out a second vidcard later today -
I'll keep everyone posted.
Thanks,
Mike

After failed yum update, system showing it is version 1 but is still RH9
by Rob Freeman
I tried to upgrade my system from RH9 to fedora with little success. Since
that did not work, and my raid driver does not work with fedora, I am going
to stick with RH9 for the time being. My problem is though when I did the
yum upgrade, it must have set my system to show as version 1. When I try to
run up2date now, it shows me as Version 1.
When I try to run up2date, I get this:
[root(a)x.x.x.x root]# up2date -l
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/up2date", line 993, in ?

File "/usr/sbin/up2date", line 720, in main

File "up2dateBatch.py", line 88, in __findPackagesToUpdate
File "packageList.py", line 88, in run

I have tried changing my yum.conf with no luck. I thought about unistalling
up2date and reinstalling, but I did not want to make a bad situation worse.
Any ideas?

To burn iso images use cdrecord ;)
cdrecord --scanbus ( imagine says that your cd-rw is on 0,0,0 then ... )
cdrecord --dev=0,0,0 dao image_to_burn.iso

Did you burn the iso to the cd or just copy the iso to the cd?

I am not too famliar with Mandrake, but I would assume they also have a cd
burner

Installing fedora
by PCDEBB | Fedora-list
I'm trying to install fedora on a computer that currently has Mandrake, but
I want to wipe out Mandrake and fresh install Fedora. I have it so the
computer boots from cdrom, but when it tries it says boot from cdrom fails.
Isnt the ISO bootable? Or need I download it from someplace else? I used
one of the mirrors listed.
thanx
