I've heard the same about belgium in regards to GSoC. IIRC there was a
post on the gsoc list about how they organise their schedules to make
it fit, and in the end, projects end up being just as successful.
Unfortunately i don't remember offhand what the details were, but i
hope this gives you a good pointer at least.

Shall we put up a wiki page with interested countries and their school
terms? I'm pretty sure it's different from Czech Republic as well.
BTW I've just joined the mailing list. I have a very good relation with
two universities in Brno, Czech Republic (one of them was hosting FUDCon
two years ago) and their are for sure interested in Summer Coding.
