GSoC 2016 Applicants,
If you have draft proposals in the system, now is the time to make
them final. The official deadline is 19:00UTC (roughly 10 minutes from
Good Luck Applicants, and we'll see you in IRC.
P.S. - If you are a mentor, this is also the deadline for you to
accept your invitation to the GSoC program.
Fedora Community Lead & Council
I was attempting to explain an idea on channels for the program and was
hoping to see if there is even interest (or enough to warrant the effort).
There is currently #fedora-apps, #fedora-hubs, #fedora-commops,
#fedora-atomic, #fedora-summer-coding and #fedora-gsocmentors,
However, I know some coders prefer to have a semi private cross
collaboration means with fellow participants ( away from the public eye
(those not in the summer coding program, and / or mentors). I was
thinking there could be a #fedora-gsocstudents or similar where only
those with proposals (later only those accepted) are able to use as a
talk-around with only other students.
And sadly it looks like interest in the respective projects will be over
what we are awarded for slots :(, and I remember several students
indicating desire to work (or at least apply for several and take which
ever one they are deemed best for) the above proposal would leave a
space for those folks to still brainstorm but not necessarily be in a
active role OR talk with fellow mentees in their accepted project but
also have a 'break-out' channel where only those involved are allowed
to be. Leaving -summer-coding as a community channel for those looking
to see what things are like / about or wishing to brainstorm or ask
about pull requests form a purely community sense. We possibly could
even use -summer-coding post acceptance period as a #fedora-fedmsg
style channel for near real-time updates for the community or those
looking to just take a 'glimpse' or catch up on what is planned / did
happen at a meeting they may have missed or may miss.
Open to ideas, comments, adjustments and /or flat out denials.

Hello! This is Anubha Maneshwar, Computer Engineering Student in Nagpur University,India (3rd year).
I am keenly interested in working with your organization as you inspire and motivate people.I am women in tech and It's my 1st year for GSOC.
While going through your list of ideas, I found two projects for which I really want to contribute- 'Fedora Web App Development: CommOps & Fedora Hub'. I really liked these two ideas and I am eager to add my ideas to the project for making it better. I have prepared a complete proposal. The reason why I am so desperate for contributing is that I love writing contents and designing web apps.
A brief introduction of mine:
>I'm part of MOZILLA student ambassador program.
>I'm going to attend 'Google's International Women's day Summit' on 19th of March @GOOGLE HYDERABAD .
>I am working with different organizations and also writing contents (icytales.com& beyond news).
I want to discuss the details with you before submitting a proposal. And my sincere apologies as I am informing you so late. I hope you will still consider my application. I'm looking forward to your response.
I'm a final year computer engineering undergraduate in department of
computer engineering, Faculty of Engineering, university of Peradeniya, Sri
Lanka. I am very interesting about this project. I have completed my
internship at WSO2 Inc which is 100% open source company. So I am really
interested about open source environment. I have experienced about Python,
developing a web platform using python flask.
So I would like to know more details about the project.
Thanks and Regards,
