Looking forward to contribute
by Asanka Nissanka
Hi
First of all I must say that I did introduce me for the fedora-join mailing
list and could get an idea about fedora contribution areas.
Anyways as a brief introduction to me, I am a computer engineering
undergraduate at university of Peradeniya, Srilanka. I am a linux user for
quite long time now and really into open source. So I look forward to
contribute to fedora infrastructure, and would like to know in which ways I
can contribute.
Thank you
Regards

MirrorManager outage root cause
by Matt Domsch
At approximately 01:00 UTC today, clients requesting the mirror list
started getting timeouts, then HTTP 503 errors generated by the
MirrorManager mirror list processes. On the Fedora Infrastructure
application servers, the loads spiked, the out-of-memory killer
started firing, and chaos ensued.
Proximate cause of this failure appears to be due to invalid data in
the MirrorManager database - specifically, the bandwidth value for
several servers was NULL, when that should not be possible. I say
proximate, not root, as I have not been able to validate the incorrect
behavior with incorrect data, though after fixing the invalid data, we
have not seen further failures. That remains to be done.
There are fixes in the MirrorManager 1.4 (unreleased) branch to
prevent invalid data from happening, but these were not present in the
1.3 version currently in production. Additional fixes have been put
into the MM 1.4 branch tonight to further ensure this type of invalid
data cannot affect the mirrorlist_server process.
Thanks to Stephen Smoogen and Kevin Fenzi for their quick work to
identify the failing systems and minimize the impact to other Fedora
services.
Thanks,
Matt

Beta-testers for jenkins?
by Pierre-Yves Chibon
Hi,
I think we are pretty much ready for a first round of tester on jenkins.
The only thing I can think of is that we are relying on the new openid
which is in staging and at 0.1.0 (with no branding).
What do you think? Should we make a first call for testers? Should we
just test it within the infra projects first?

of my review request (closed 2009-08-07) BZ#505356.
Although this does not affect me personally, I think this is some
obscure way of mass parasitizing our infrastructure. No way to blacklist
this address ?

Congrats to Ralph Bean
by Kevin Fenzi
I'm happy to announce that I have approved Ralph into the sysadmin-main
group. This is the core group of trusted folks that high level access
to most things.
Ralph has been running full steam ahead since he started working with
Fedora Infrastructure designing, implementing and enabling all our
various services with the fedmsg bus.
Promoting him into this group will allow him quicker access to test new
fedmsg related packages, sign and push new fedmsg certs, and debug
issues that come up on high security machines related to fedmsg.
Congrats and use your powers for good! :)
