Accessing Android files from the command line
by Robert Moskowitz
Xfce's Thundar has no problem accessing my Android phone; as long as I
wait a bit.
The location information is:
mtp://[usb:001,012]/Phone/
But when I copy a file from the phone, I loose the date it was created.
I want to copy my audio recordings and keep the date using something
like 'cp -a', but what directory.

VPN: "Necessary secrets were not provided"
by Oliver Ruebenacker
Hello,
I had my VPN working on my F22 laptop until I changed my institutional
password.
When I try to edit the connection, the dialog opens initially with the
name of the connection being the only field, and it takes half a minute
until the rest appears. I entered the new password and tried to connect.
After being busy for minutes, a balloon briefly appeared, saying something
like "Necessary secrets were not provided".
Any ideas? Thanks!
Best, Oliver

How can I print a document when the printer requires a password?
The printer shows up with cups, but I do not see any option to provide
a password?
Thank.

Trouble with nfs4 mount
by Jonathan Ryshpan
Since I upgraded my system (new CPU, motherboard, and power supply on
system amito) nfs mounts have failed; they were working fine till the
upgrade. Here's the situation; all the commands were run on amito:
$ cat /etc/fstab
...
# NFS Mounts
weather:/ /srv/weather nfs4
users,defaults 0 0
...
$ showmount -e weather
Export list for weather:
/home amito.attlocal.net
/ amito.attlocal.net
$ hostname
amito
$ mount /srv/weather
mount.nfs4: access denied by server while mounting weather:/
amito and weather ping each other successfully.
What's going on? How can I find out the reason for the denial of
access?
Thanks - jon

Kernel 4.1.4 breaks external display
by CS DBA
Hi All;
I'm running Fedora 21 on a Dell M3800 laptop, been working great.
Updating to the latest kernel however breaks my external display
i.e. I plug the external monitor in and nothing happens, previous to the
update when I plug in the external monitor
the system would auto configure the second screen and I could use both
monitors.
I've googled the issue but not found anything.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance

tesseract OCR and page layout
by Gary Stainburn
HI folks.
When I use pdftotext from poppler-utils I use the -layout argument to get the
resulting text file to match the page layout as closely as possible to the
PDF file.
This means that lines such as
line1col1 line1col2 line1col3
line2col1 line2col2 line3col3
are output as such. However, when I use tesseract to extract text from PDF
files that don't have embedded text I can't seem to get the same effect. Am I
missing something with tesseract, or is that an alternative OCR that can give
me what I want?

e2fsck after hard shutdown
by antonio montagnani
Sometimes if you have to shut-down improperly or power is missing, it
happens that your system doesn't start in the usual way, but in a kind
of emergency mode, and you can enter in it by Ctrl D...after that
usually you have to make a control on your filesystem using an
installation media (DVD or USB key) and running e2fsck at least on your
/home.
Is it not possible to run e2fsck during the standard boot before
filesystems are mounted?? (maybe a stupid question, forgive me and my
bad english)

You can remove cached packages by executing 'dnf clean packages'
% sudo dnf clean packages

then % dnf download --source R again, but same output.
% cat /etc/dnf/dnf.conf

I have no idea where is the cache. /var/cache/dnf subdirectories will
not show any .rpm.
Where can I find my src.rpm ?
Thank you for help
