OT: dunst question
by Ranjan Maitra
Dear friends,
This is only tangentially related to Fedora in the sense that I use it on F22 (since Fteens). Anyway, the only thing that I can not get dunst do (that I can get notification-daemon do) and that I would like is that when something like osmo gives me a notification (notification allows me an option which essentially says "Done", which if clicked would take care of the entry in the task reminder manager). Is it possible to have such an option in dunst? I can always file a feature request, of course, but I thought that I would first check to see if it is already implemented but I have not figured it out.
Let me know if my question is not clear and you would like clearer information.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

Why????
All the packages it downloaded are from the unreleased fedora 23.

PS: On an unrelated note, why do abiword and gnumeric have dependencies on goffice? Is either of these in error?

sha256 sums
by JD
Downloaded Fedora-Workstation-netinst-x86_64-22.iso
at least 3 times.
Each time, I computed the sha256 sum of the iso image.
And each time it was different to the sum in the file
Fedora-Workstation-22-x86_64-CHECKSUM
To wit:
$ grep SHA256 Fedora-Workstation-22-x86_64-CHECKSUM
Hash: SHA256
SHA256 (Fedora-Workstation-netinst-x86_64-22.iso) =
c9d22e708b21336582b19b336b7063fc4b882be4cf96d4d0693de07bd66c25e8
SHA256 (Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3.iso) =
615abfc89709a46a078dd1d39638019aa66f62b0ff8325334f1af100551bb6cf
$ sha256sum Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3.iso
37a3a23f9d2d01dc2b47660fcd7611cb2474f94a11ff208f38a52e16cbb5b263
Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3.iso
$ ll Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3.iso
-rw-r--r-- 1 jd jd 1161293611 Sep 18 16:21
Fedora-Live-Workstation-x86_64-22-3.iso
Then I found out why.
I had downloaded it from the mirror:
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/releases/22/Workstation/x86_64/iso/Fedor...
whereas the iso image at:
http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/22/Workstatio...
computes the correct sha256sum.
Thought I would bring this up for others to avoid.

ImageMagick: possibly OT
by Timothy Murphy
I want to crop a PNG picture.
I see how to do it with ImageMagick,
once I know the pixel-positions of the corners of the rectangle.
I'm wondering if there is a way of imposing a grid to read these numbers,
either with ImageMagick or some other application that runs under Fedora ?

Set PDF background to transparent without quality loss
by Gary Stainburn
Hi all,
As part of my virtual Printer -> invoice paper -> PDF project I'm struggling.
I've got everything working except merging the invoice paper and the invoice.
I have a single page PDF with the invoice stationery from a scanned original.
I have the invoice as produced by our business management software
I then ran
pdftk invoice.pdf background invoice_paper.pdf output output.pdf.
Unfortunately this didn't work because our business software splatted all over
the company logo.
I then tried
pdftk invoice.pdf background invoice_paper.pdf output output.pdf.
which priority to the invoice paper, effectively putting it over the invoice
instead of behind it. This of course means that the blank background of the
paper splats over the invoice.
The answer is to make the white background of the invoice_paper.pdf
transparent. I've tried doing this using PDFedit, convert, and gimp but the
end result is a significant reduction of the quality of the
invoice_paper.pdf.
Can anyone suggest al alternative method, preferrably also removing the
blemishes on the scanned paper.

Remote content notification bar -
by Bob Goodwin
Thunderbird 38.2.0 - Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the "remote
content notification bar" at the top of the text field of the received
messages? I just about never elect to see "remote content" but I
frequently need to clear that silly notice that takes up space better
used for text.

dnf autoremove is trying to remove user-installed packages
by Anon Anon
Hello,
According to dnf man pages autoremove removes all "leaf" packages from
the system that were originally installed as dependencies of
user-installed packages but which are no longer required by any such
package.
dnf autoremove on my system insists on removing several user-installed
packages like google-chrome-stable, akmod-virtualbox, etc.
