Re: Fedora 22 is here!

Hi Matthew,
Looking forward to this release. I haven't read the release notes yet,
however I have a few questions or comments. If "read the release notes"
is the best answer, please feel free to say so :).

I'm interested in running SLC containers on Fedora hosts. Does any of
these packages facilitate that? What I understood so far is, it allows
me to run the latest Fedora containers in other places easily. Where
would one go looking for info for a need like mine?

I tried this a bit already, I like the convenience of having everything
aggregated together, however I'm a bit uneasy that a browser is the
interface. After all it is the most vulnerable application on most
machines. Are there other (safer) interfaces I can try, preferably on
the CLI? Am I being unreasonably paranoid? I'm really interested in
trying the multi-server bits. Any pointers?

Is this desktop agnostic? I use XFCE. I'm guessing it's some kind of
DBUS magic?

Collecting all the resources on RTD is a great initiative. Wonderful!

This question is probably off-topic here, but I'll ask anyway :-p. Does
this make a significant difference during development when I want my
projects to also compile with older GCC like 4.[89]?

This question is not exactly about FedUp. I find it strange that no
release so far has supported yum (or dnf now) as one of the upgrade
methods. And yet, I have had the most reliable upgrade experiences with
it since F12 or so! Any reason why this is the case? I think it is the
method that allows for the shortest of downtimes.
Thanks for the release. Looking forward to trying it!

sound problem in F20, F21, F22
by dcw
Posted here and on alsa mailing list some time ago - many comments but
none fixed the problem.
This is the link to bug report:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1101278
And now I am officially confused.
To recap:
This computer is used for Mythtv.
The computer was build by me in 2007 using a Asus m2a-vm MB and until
kernel 3.12.x sound has always worked. I always used alsa not pulseaudio.
The F20 initial release, sound worked with 3.11.10-301.fc20.i686+PAE
All future releases of the kernel the sound did not work.
Searched Asus for a bios upgrade to address the problem - no upgrade
related.
Tried the following live dvd releases (stock live session included
pulseaudio) to no avail:
F21 xfce
F22 xfce
Centos 7.0
Linux mint 17.1
Since F20 is EOL and should move to F21 I bought a sound card for the
computer (Diamond brand from Best Buy).
Booting the 3.11.x kernel.
Sound card was recognized. I set Mythtv to use the new sound card. Sound
worked.
Booting the 3.19.x kernel
Sound card was recognized.
Sound did not work.
I put a new drive (spare) in the computer.
Install F22 xfce instead of a live session. Sound card was recognized.
Used Rhythmbox to test. No sound. Pulseaudio volume control clearly
showed sound coming in.
I thought that adding a sound card would have worked around the problem
and it did not.
I am clearly over looking something but do not know what.
Any ideas on what to do or look for next will be very appreciated,
David

I think that it was the problem... Now it works, but yum installed also
kmod-nvidia, which seems to me as something useless if akmod is supposed
to compile the module on the fly if it is missing or if a new kernel is
installed...
BTW why kernem-devel package is not in the dependencies of akmod and/or
of dkms?

Yes dkms was installed when I posted the first message.

Smart card issues on F22
by David Timothy Strauss
Setting up my YubiKey Neo to use PKCS #11/PIV/CCID features for SSH used to
work fine, at least on Fedora 20 and 21. Now, with Fedora 22, it cannot
ever find the device. I know the device is configured properly because it
still works properly on an F21 box I have.
I suspect the issue may be the libinput switch or the move to have PCSC
daemon be socket-activated (I think both changes happened between F21 and
F22).
Here is what I see from "sudo journalctl -fa" output when I insert it into
an F22 machine with PCSC installed:

I think the "failed" at the end of the second set of log entries is because
I've changed the PIN, stopping fully automatic initialization. At SSH
connection time, it asks for the PIN and then works.

Can someone tell me the proper command to clone an SD card?
I am working with the RPI 2B and I would like to store a backup on my

asking Google the right things but it hasn't helped ...

Has anyone noticed the theme selector is not working in the

I ask is there a fix that can be applied.

How to figure out which package provides the "Fixed 16" font
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I was wondering how to find out the package that provides the font called "Fixed 16" in Fedora 22. The font existed in Fedora 21. Installing the same packages in F22 that were in F21 has made this font disappear (actually, I fedup-ed and nothing font-related that I can tell was dropped or obsoleted.)
Many thanks,
Ranjan
