So acrobat is dead for linux - long live evince?
by Robert Moskowitz
So here I am setting up my new F21 system and of course pdf processing
is a must, and on F20, I had many problems with evince. So I went to get
acrobat, and it seems to be truly gone.
I see a thread of people running it in Wine. I shutter at the thought,
though I suppose if ya got to.
I have AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu.rpm here on my F20 system. Is this
the last/latest and it will work on F21?
What are people doing for pdf reading native on Fedora other than evince
(F20 is 3.10, F21 is 3.14)?

OT: Convert SVG file to data points/coordinates (x,y)
by Antonio Olivares
Is there an easy way to generate a data file with coordinates from an svg file? i.e, convert it to a data file with (x,y) coordinates and plot the resulting dat file with gnuplot?
For instance the file
http://www.clker.com/cliparts/o/c/U/T/o/T/alligator.svg
which is public domain clipart, convert it to data file and then use gnuplot to plot it?
If it is very hard to do with free tools or scripts, then I will have to use the graphic as is and try to learn a bit of how svg works and then convert that to other formats with imagemagick or other tools.
Best Regards,
Antonio

Fedora 21: yum installed wrong version of Flash?
by Jim Lewis
Hello all,
Still working to get a good Fedora 21 install. Things are going well,
except for Flash. I did a "yum -y install flash-plugin" but it doesn't
seem to work (Firefox says I don't have Flash installed).

Looks like it installed the 32-bit version. I'm thinking this is not a
bug with Fedora, but maybe somewhere else. Or maybe I did another
boneheaded thing.
I could probably fix this by using yum to remove the wrong one (does that
really work?) and manually installing the correct one. Any ideas on this?

Fedora 21 update (not upgrade) fails with broken boot
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
A recent update with new kernel has broken my boot. This is what happens: I boot in through grub. Pretty soon, I get:
Generating "/run/initramfs/rsdsosreport.txt"
Welcome to emergency mode! After loggin in, type "journalctl -xb" to view system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or ^D to try again to boot into defauly mode.
Give root password for maintenance.
(or press Control-D to continue):
I do not have root on this machine, so I am not sure what to do (I have sudo status). What am I supposed to do? (I may say Ctrl-D does get me the login screen, but why this message and rigmarole)?
This is the third time this has happened, on a laptop. The other two laptops had this issue at different times towards the fag end of F20 and could only be fixed by a reinstall of the OS.
Any suggestions/pointers would be appreciated. Happy to provide more information as possible.
Best wishes,
Ranjan

Dragon can't find its codecs after upgrade to F21
by Temlakos
I've found my first problem after upgrading to F21.
Back when I was running F20, I had managed to find and install just
about every codec I needed to play videos of every description in Dragon.
Now, Dragon is trying to install those codecs and finding out I already
have them installed.
Or do I? Sometimes when I try to install something, it starts talking
about all the unresolved dependencies it has.
This affects video and audio codecs for Dragon.
Now the only thing that works for playing video, is vlc. That still works.
I get messages asking me to file a bug, but I don't know what product to
file it against.
Here's an example of the detailed errors I'm getting:

recovering data from a preceding installation of Fedora..
by Angelo Moreschini
Hi,
I I had to re install Fedora on my computer, I did it and now I have to
restore the data from the old installation.
Using an external support for the disc ("USB to SATA / IDE converter") I
can access the old drive, and using Nautilus to see all the data that I
would recover, but I do not have permission to copy them (on the disk where
I made the new installation of Fedora).
I tried to mount the partition (where the data is recorded that I want to
recover), but the directories and the data that I have not mounted directly
readable ... So I can not make the transfer of data that I need ...
What is the correct way to conduct this operation ???
Thank you
Angelo

Accessing disk from F19 in F21
by Markus Lindholm
Hi
I just updated a computer from Fedora 19 to 21. I did it by adding a
second SSD to the computer on which I installed F21. The problem is
now that I can't access the files from the old SSD. They seem to be
overshadowed as the volume group has the same name as the new
installation.
Any way to get access to the old disk in this new setting?

Problem with gnome-tweak-tool after changing the window scaling factor to 2
by Joachim Backes
Hi guys,
I'm running F21/gnome3, and I played a bit with gnome-tweak-tool:
setting the Window Scaling Factor to 2, but now it's impossible to reset
the scaling factor to 1 because the gnome-tweak-tool window is now too
large so the scaling-factor control button is no more visible.
Can this be done by gconf-editor or by dconf-editor, or by other tools?
Any help is appreciated.
Kind regards
Joachim Backes

F21 minimal install?
by Ian Pilcher
Do any of the F21 installation media provide a minimal install option
anymore? IIRC, the "basic server" (or whatever it's called) now
installs more than 600 packages, around twice as many as the F20 minimal
install.
