Fedora 12: issue with PyGTK2/Python based applications
by Steven P. Ulrick
Hello Everyone
I have been having a very annoying problem with a lot of Python/PyGTK2
based applications. I can only run them as root. If I try to run them as
a regular user, they fail somewhat like this:
[steve@localhost ~]$ listen
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "listen", line 37, in <module>
import gobject
ImportError: No module named gobject
[steve@localhost ~]$
[steve@localhost ~]$ bleachbit
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/bleachbit", line 41, in <module>
import gtk
ImportError: No module named gtk
[steve@localhost ~]$
I tried re-compiling the pygtk2 SRPM from Rawhide. I successfully updated
with the resulting RPM's. bleachbit and listen both started working as a
regular user! Unfortunately, I then rebooted into the latest kernel. The
result was that listen and bleachbit no longer worked as a regular user...
I have since used "yum downgrade" to downgrade back to the original pygtk2
RPM's.
So, does any one have any great ideas? Is anyone else having this same
issue?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Starnge problems with prinbting to a Windows 2 Machine.
by Aaron Konstam
I set up the printer queue for the windows 7 machine just as I did for
the Win XP machine. With system-config-printer in setting up the printer
using samba the WORKGROUP is found the machine name is found and the
printer name is found. However the print stream gets to the Windows 7
machine but just sits there saying its printing but nothing is printed,
When I restart the machine the document is printed as the log in screen
appears.
Any explanations of fixes out there?

Fedora 10 install into Sun VirtualBox
by Anthony Newland
I've just finished installing Fedora 10 into the Sun VirtualBox, and now I
can't seem to login. I don't remember making up a user account for this, so
I have no idea what it could be. Thoughts?

How the H&*()*) do I turn auto numbering in OO Writer completely OFF ?
by linux guy
Another OO update and even more stupid, silly auto numbering. How do I
turn it right off, FOREVER ?
[rant]
I don't know who controls the design of the OO suite, but some of us DO
NOT WANT auto paragraph numbering every time we start a paragraph with a
number, hyphen or bullet point. Yeah, I'm sure auto numbering is nice
for some people, but if I want a paragraph to be numbered, I'll format
it as such manually OR I'll enable auto numbering for it myself. I DO
NOT WANT a computer trying to figure out how it should be numbering what
I write. I want to decide that. PERIOD. UNDERSTOOD ?
I spend way, way more time **UNFORMATTING** the stupid number formatting
that OO writer applies than I would spend adding number to the
paragraphs I wish to have numbered. Isn't the purpose of software to
make our lives easier ?
What really rips me off is that this auto numbering "stuff" has been
going on for YEARS in a predictable cycle. Use Writer for bit, find
numbering to be irritating. Do a web search to try to figure out how to
turn it off. Turn off some obscure switch hidden 18 layers deep in the
GUI. Use it for a while. Upgrade to a newer version. Watch some new
silly auto numbering scheme appear. Do a web search for how to turn it
off... it continues. WHEN WILL IT STOP ?
How do I turn off auto numbering in OO Writer so that it NEVER EVER EVER
EVER appears in my work again ? Please, someone stop the lunacy !
[/rant]
Thanks for listening...

F11 -> F12 preupgrade problem resulted in odd alsa loaded
by Peter J. Stieber
I had an initial attempt at preupgrade that failed, but I followed the
Method 2 instructions at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_use_PreUpgrade#Not_enough_space_in_....
and successfully upgraded.
After upgrading I ran...
# package-cleanup --orphans
alsa-lib-1.0.22-3.fc11.x86_64
alsa-lib-devel-1.0.22-3.fc11.x86_64
So I removed alsa-lib-devel-1.0.22-3.fc11.x86_64...

If I try to reinstall SDL-devel, an i686 version of the alsa-lib package
wants to be installed. I'm running an x86_64 kernel...

KVM upgrades
by Bill Davidsen
In the "old days" of FC6 I used to build more recent versions of KVM and install
them without significant problems. I was wondering if anyone had tried this on
FC9, as I am in a "can't upgrade" situation at the moment, and am having some
minor issues which seem to be fixed in more recent versions.
No, the KVM list is not the place for a very specific question, I'm hoping for
someone who really did it. If I wanted someone who thinks it will work I'd talk
to mayself. ;-)

PackageKit
by Howard Howell
Hi, everyone,
PackageKit seems to have hung. I know there are 31 updates for F12,
but I don't seem to be able to get PackageKit to do the job, nor can I
abort and clean, since it seems to have the lock file hung for anything
to do with the update or yum processes. Is anyone else seeing this, or
am I alone?
Also if anyone has a solution, please let me know. I did a google, but
don't see this issue there yet. I'm still reading...
Regards,
Les H
