Fedora 12 doesn't recognise Firewire Drive
by Alan Milnes
My newly installed F12 doesn't recognise my external Firewire drive.
lspci shows the following:-
04:09.4 FireWire (IEEE 1394): ALi Corporation M5253 P1394 OHCI 1.1
Controller
I have the following installed packages which seem to be related to firewire
support:-
libraw1394.x86_64 2.0.4-1.fc12
libiec61883.x86_64 1.2.0-3.fc12
Google doesn't provide any useful hints, anyone able to help me here?
TIA
Alan

Fedora 12 Installation Error: Installs i686 kernel on i386 arch and ...
by ooran dayo
Hi. Any help will be much appreciated. I have installed Fedora 12 on an
i386 machine using CD ROM for i386 from projectfedora.org. The install
proceeded in limited graphic mode (assuming this is what the blue screen
with grey box with words in the middle indicates). I noticed that the
packages being installed indicate i686 architecture (including the kernel).
Then, when it is finished installing packages, it reboots to text screen (no
graphics) requesting login and password. Logging in as root gives me the su
prompt. No where does it request for me to insert additional cds (such as
the second through fifth installation disks). Can you help me to understand
why it loaded i686 instead of i386 (I checked the files which I downloaded
and they say i386 on them) and why it does not ask for additional
installation media after disk 1?
Also, I tried all other install options including install available on first
install page including the rescue option.
Thank you for any support you can provide.

pulseaudio memory usage possible leak
by Genes MailLists
Does this look appropriate on F12 ?
PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
9 -11 163m 3836 2908 S 2.3 0.1 18:11.20 pulseaudio
Sound is muted - best I can tell nothing (aside from gnome) is using the
audio system.
Is it appropriate for pulseaudio to have 163 Mb or is this a memory leak
?

by Matt Smith
I have a logitech wireless mouse. I am running gnome (fedora-12).. I
recently switched to Linux and everything has been fine. out of nowhere i
am now not able to drag windows, close them, expand, or minimize them once i
open them. seems like it is a mouse problem. the left button does nothing
and i cant seem to grab and drag the window, whether i open the terminal or
firefox i cannot do anything once i open it, its like once opening my left
button just becomes disabled, to close i have to use alt+F4... any ideas?
(ps the button does work within the window itself, for example i can click
on links within the web browser)

Add/Remove Software error
by "Germán A. Racca"
Hi there:
I have a PC with Fedora 12 x86_64 and Gnome desktop, and when I want to
install a program, I go to System -> Administration -> Add/Remove
Software, then I select the package, and finally it asks me for the root
password.
But in my notebook, with Fedora 12 i686 and Gnome desktop, the same
procedure as above doesn't ask me for the root password, but rather I
get the error:
"Authorization failed
You have failed to provide correct authentication
Please check any passwords or account settings."
What happened? I'm missing some configuration steps?
Regards,
Germán

Philips 9@9q USB connection
by Hiisi
Hi list!
Recently I've bought a new cell phone. It's Philips 9@9q Xenium. It
has usb-lsot for every task - charging its battery, using headphones
and (what I'd like it to do) for data transfer. I can't figure out how
to connect it to F12. Here's the last lines from dmesg just after
phone is connected through USB cable:
usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3
usb 3-2: New USB device found, idVendor=112f, idProduct=1005
usb 3-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 3-2: Product: PHILIPS Xenium 9@9q GSM Mobile Phone
usb 3-2: Manufacturer: PHILIPS
usb 3-2: SerialNumber: 351978-02-122976
usb 3-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 3
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
usb-storage: device scan complete
scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access Philips Dev. 0 LUN 0 1.0 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 0
sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk
I'm unable to use it with wammu - can't find appropriate device. As I
understand system recognise it as removable disk, not a cell phone. Is
it possible to change that behaviour?
