PPTP VPN broken
by Andrew Gray
Hi
Feb 25 09:22:15 Updated: ppp-2.4.5-2.fc12.x86_64
I updated to ppp 2.4.5 on the 25 February and it has broken PPTP VPN
working
Plugin /usr/lib64/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pptp-pppd-plugin.so is for pppd version
2.4.4, this is 2.4.5
Checking rpm -qa I see I have :-
NetworkManager-pptp-0.7.996-4.git20090921.fc12.x86_64
pptp-setup-1.7.2-8.fc12.x86_64
Any idea when PPTP updates are coming out to fix PPTP VPN
Otherwise keep up the good work F12 rocks

Packaging rant
by John Aldrich
Ok, after the problems I had yesterday with Akonadi and KMail, and reading
some other postings about how so many programs are integrated into one
humongous RPM, it got me to thinking. Why do we *need* to have one
ginormous RPM for a bunch of different apps? Why can't we just have one RPM
per app? Even if we have a few "base" RPMs that multiple programs require,
at least then we can pick/choose which apps we want to install.
For example, someone on the list was complaining about wanting to get rid
of Dragon Player. There's no reason that we need to have one huge "kde-
multimedia" package that includes everything, in my opinion.
It is my considered opinion that we should be able to selectively install
parts of major sub-systems as long as it does not break the entire sub-
system. For example, the Dragon Player previously mentioned. I've never
used it. I prefer XMMS for my multi-media player. Why should I be forced to
install the KDE medi player just to be able to have other "multimedia" apps
from KDE?
I think we ought to think about how we package apps. Let's just have a
"base" app that includes the required subsystems for everything to work,
and then make other RPMs available for apps that "hook into" that sub-
system.
I really would like to hear why this is not possible as it seems like a lot
of "junk" is forced upon us as we make these huge packages that contain
everything.

Step 1, and 2 did not work, but step 3 did, firefox restored!
By the way running firefox from terminal worked too and it did not
showed any error.
This is great, you guys saved me a lot of reinstallation time.
Thank you so much to every body for helping me.

Recursive comparing of files
by Marko Vojinovic
Hi folks! :-)
I have the following task: there are two directories on the disk, say a/ and
b/, with various subdirectories and files inside. I need to find and erase all
*duplicate* files, and after that all empty directories. The files may reside in
different directories, may have different names, but if they have identical
*contents*, file from b/ branch should be deleted.
Now, the directories that I have are rather large and I wouldn't want to go
hunt for duplicates manually. Is there some tool that can at least identify
and list duplicate files in some directory structure?
I could think of an algorithm like:
1) list all files in all subdirectories of a/ along with their file size
2) do the same thing for files in b/
3) sort and compare lists, look for pairs of files with identical size
4) test each pair to see if the file content is the same, and if yes, list them
in the output
I could probably be able to write a bash script which would do this, but I
guess this problem is common and there are already some available tools which
would do this for me. Any suggestions?
Thanks, :-)

remote install process/practice
by bruce
Hi.
Got a question that nees clarification. Viewed a few sites and have
come across different approaches. So figured I'd ask here...
I've got a situation where I have a number of remote servers, that
need to be setup to install either Centos/Fedora or RHEL.
All the systems have an older version of linux, but we want to bring
them up to date, and the same OS.
So, what's the best approach to accomplish this.
One guy I talked to implied that you had to be at the console! I'm
inclined to disagree...
All the systems are hooked up to the network. I've got root access to
remotely access all machines..
So, thoughts/comments/pointers on this would be appreciated!!
Thanks

mpack gcc 4.4.1 3.4.6
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I am trying to compile mpack 0.6.4 and I get an error message
which seems to be due to a problem of compatibility between gcc 4.4.1
and gcc 3.4.6 probably required to mblas and/or mlapack (fortran
compatibility). In fact I only have the 3.4 compatibility installed.
Any idea ?

Hi all,
only a brief note to thank everyone of the Fedora team!
My usual "yum update", today, gave me kde 4.4... it's a gift!!!
I love Fedora, day by day! ;)
Thanks a lot!

Printing from Windows XP
by Kevin Cummings
My printer is running on my F10 server. In the past, my son has been
able to print to it with no problems from his Windows XP machine.
Starting sometime this past weekend, when he tries to print, Windows XP
gets an "unknown print error" when he tries.
Now, here's the kicker, when I log into the "owner" account on the same
Windows XP machine, I can print just fine....
Does anyone know what might be causing this bizarre unwanted behaviour?
