by Olivier Robert
Hi,
I need some help with the layout of my macbook
2,1<http://img1.lesnumeriques.com/produits/71/7078/Apple_MacBook_13_Unibody_K...>french
azerty keyboard.
I can't figure out how to do \ [ ] |, etc ... on that keyboard.
I did switch the layout in gnome: System - Preferences - Keyboard: Layout
tab
Keyboard model : Evdev-managed keyboard
Selected lauouts:
- Country : France
- Variants: Macintosh
To get a pipe under OSX I'd do Alt - Shift - L
Everything is working properly with Fedora, but this problem with the
keyboard which is a no go if I can't get it fixed.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Regards,
Olivier

Firewall setting needed for NFS?
by Michael D. Setzer II
I'm trying to figure out the firewall options for NFS setup.
If I completely disable the firewall, it works fine.
I've found a number of pages that say what ports need to be opened, but it
continues to fail even with all those ports open.
I don't have a need for the NFS, but I've had a number of users of my G4L
disk imaging program that want to use NFS in addition to the SSHFS and
CIFS that it already supports. It can also image to local partitions or ftp
servers.
I even used wireshark to monitor the transactions to see what ports were
used for a connection with the firewall disabled, but it didn't work when I
opened those ports.

Firefox has turned into a lynx
by Sam Varshavchik
It looks like since the most recent update, on one of my laptops, Firefox
comes up showing the designated start page, but without processing its
stylesheet, so the end result looks like a slightly marked-up lynx.
I can hit the home button, and get the home page reloaded properly. I tried
switching to a different home page, and clearing the cache -- makes no
difference.
It's only a minor annoyance, but I'm curious if anyone else sees the same
behavior.

rsync, vs Partimage, vs other backup
by Antonio Olivares
Dear fellow Fedora users & list members,
On the kmail thread, sarcasm included :), I noticed the references to rsync and partimage respectively. Both are recommended to make backups in order to prevent from BAD UPDATES to render your machine/working programs to a halt :(, and get back up easily. I have not used any of the two and would appreciate some command line examples of how the two work in case I decide to do the same.
I have a copy of SystemRescueCD, GpartedLiveCD, in case either of the two are handy in this situation. I have run rawhide and have been lucky to get back up from those BAD UPDATES once in a while and the test list is very generous with their help and guidance.

How to see kernel pr_err error messages.
by Reg Clemens
Im looking at some kernel code, and there are 'pr_err' error messages in
it that would help me discover my problem.
However I dont see them printing anywhere.
What do I have to do to see these error messages?
A search with GOOGLE and a grep of the code wasnt too useful, but
it seems possible that I need to set
#define CONFIG_DEBUG
Is that true? I see a lot of <something>_DEBUGs in the .config file
but no simple CONFIG_DEBUG,
In any case, how do I get these things to print?

If you check the fedora site you can get a direct install iso. The
easiest one to grab is the dvd iso.
You probably have too little RAM for a graphical install. You might try
selecting a text install at the first (or so) screen.
The live-cd is intended to run from the CD so you can check that it will
run. There is an option to install from the running live-cd instance.
But you need more memory to get it to run at all, by the looks of it.

F12: Another Pulseaudio "No Sound" problem
by Don Levey
I've been reading with interest the problems with PulseAudio since F12
came out, and I find myself in a similar situation (none of the
previously offered solutions seem to have helped).
First, the vitals:

It seems that I am able to get sound for about 30 seconds; it starts,
but slowly fades over that time to nothing. Restarting/relogging in
sometimes resets it, but not always.
Any suggestions as to what I can try, or what additional information I
can post that might help to diagnose this? I'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance,

Which "VIDEO-PLAYER" ?
by j.halifax .
Hi video-gurus,
Could you please give me an advice of which "video-player" (some SW) to use for the following task on FC12_64 ?
(1) I need to create a web-site on my PC with a PLAYER playing video in one of its frames
(2) The video-content played should be an "endless" list of small video-shots with their names
(or data) being read from standard input of the player or from an "infinitely" growing file or pipe
Questions are the following:
- Which "video-player" to use
- How to call it from the web site for running it in a frame
Thank you so much...

SAMBA poor performance
by Marco Maccaferri
Hi,
I've recently noticed an extremely poor performance when trasfering
files from Linux to a Windows XP notebook using samba. The notebook is
using a wireless connection so I initially tought about some
interferences from nearby devices but I can transfer up to 300KB/sec.
from the internet so it isn't the wireless connection.
Transfering from Linux is running at 8-20KB/sec., it wasn't that slow
initially, unfortunately I don't use samba so often to know when it
started to degrade. I tried some suggestions found on the web without
any effect.
I'm still using Fedora 10/x86_64 and can't update in the near future,
samba version is 3.2.15-0.36.
Any suggestion ?
Regards,
Marco.
