NetworkManager doesn't see ra0 (rt3090)
by Colin Brace
Hi all,
I have F12 installed on an Asus Eee PC that as the Ralink RT3090 chipset,
which is handled by the rt2860 driver. Apparently this is (stil) in staging,
but the Fusion repo has rt2860 and kmod-rt2860 packages, and I have
installed these under the 2.6.31.12-174.2.19 kernel.
The ra0 interface comes up at boot time. Using system-config-network-gui, I
have configured it to be managed by NetworkManager, but the latter doesn't
see the ra0; it only lists "wired networks".
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Wireless USB slow to connect
by Brian Wood
I'm using a Linksys wireless usb on a machine with
Fedora 12. Sometimes it takes 40 to 50 minutes to
to get the connected to the 'ee' network I want.
A Windows XP box that has a different wireless adaptor
is able to connect to the 'ee' network without any
problem. Any suggestions on how to decrease the
time it takes to get a connection?
Thanks in advance.

F12: Yum - network disconnects spins it's wheels.
by Dan Thurman
Seems to me, that Yum is performing quite
badly. I often get network disconnects and Yum
keeps spinning after going into 0.0b transfer rates
forever and requires a forced kill.
Anyone see this problem?
I am of course using NetworkManager, and wonder
if I should use the old-network connectivity style?

Why are .thunderbird and .evolution hidden ?
by Marcel Rieux
I don't have much important data and I do my back-ups in the most
simple way by saving my /home directory except for a few directories
to a DVD. But K3B asks if i want to save hidden files. If I answer no,
the .thunderbird and .evolution directories aren't saved and there's
some important data in there. If I answer yes, there then is a sleuth
of hidden files that are saved that I don't really need.
One way around this is to copy those 2 directories and then rename
them without the beginning ".". This way you miss a few files or
directories if you don't also rename them -- such as .#evolution.sbd
and .parentlock -- which... might not be important -- but why the hell
are .thunderbird and .evolution hidden in the first place?
Thanks!

how to crank the cooling fan to max on f12?
by Robert P. J. Day
a couple times recently, during a lengthy compile, my f12 laptop
maxed out in terms of critical temperature and simply shut itself
down. the fan has always been a bit weird, normally oscillating
between fast and slow speed with a period of a few seconds. can i
just manually set the fan to maximum speed?
i can (allegedly) examine the current temp via
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ00/temperature, which currently shows 82C
(that's gone up significantly in the last couple minutes since i
started the build). so i just want to max the fan, if that's
possible. thoughts?
