Wine and Fonts ???
by Mickey
FC 10
I have a Windows Poker game installed in Wine, and it updated itself and
some of the Fonts are now bad, all you get is tiny boxes where
characters are supposed to be.
I assumed there is a newer Windows Font package that Wine does not have .
Can Winetricks update new Windows Fonts ?

Menubar missing from F14 gnome-terminals
by Robert G. (Doc) Savage
Something appears to be suppressing the [File Edit view Terminal Tabs
Help] menubar in gnome-terminal on my Thinkpad laptop. The "show
menubar" option is enabled/checked in both config-editor and in the
popup menu that appears when you right click on the gnome-terminal's
background. Is there some other configurator that controls the menubar
display I don't know about?

sound from the command line (esdplay is no longer present)
by Gregory P. Ennis
I am debugging an old piece of software that used esdplay to generated
some music from a *.wav file. It looks like esdplay has not been part
of fedora for awhile. What piece of software that has command line
capability would you recommend that can be used as part of a perl
script?
Thanks much!

Does crypttab/luks support reading the key from a USB drive?
by Joseph D. Wagner
I'm rather new to this so please forgive me if this is documented somewhere.
I've been looking into using LUKS to encrypt my disk. However, I don't
want it to prompt me for a password. Instead, I want it to read a key off
of a removable USB stick. Unfortunately, all the documentation I've found
is based around entering a password.
Can crypttab/luks be configured to read the key off a removable USB stick
instead of having a user-entered password? If so, how would I setup such
a configuration.
Thanks.

Time consumed
by Kaushal Shriyan
Hi
I have ran the command by hand to scp a 200MB file from a remote
server to a local server.
is there a way to time it, I mean how much time it has consumed for
the scp to complete the task.
How do i incorporate in bash shell script.
Thanks

Let me try again on how to find boot oprions
by Aaron Konstam
-
It may just be me but when installing F14 from a DVD it is not at all
clear how you bring up the boot prompt so you can type: Linux text, for
example, and do a text install?
The install Manual says one types commands like this at the boot prompt.
But when I boot my DVD I just get a list of four options like: Install and Upgrade and no
boot prompt. So how is this supposed to work?

Automate tweaking??
by Beartooth
If this really doesn't exist, I want to make a feature request;
but I have somehow missed discovering it.
Any time I do a fresh install, I have a big job afterward on each
machine. A third of it is going through PackageKit, adding and removing
apps; another third is getting all the launchers I want added onto the
panels I want; and the last third is going through the long tedious
litany to show dot files, single click, start this but not that on boot,
etc ad taedium vitae.
Surely there must be some way to tell Fedora to take note of what
I have, where I put it, and how I use it, then put it all into a file I
can copy to a USB stick or some such medium -- so that once the install
completes, I can give the stick and say "Here; go."

nouveau and 3d performance in f14?
by mike cloaked
Before I start tinkering with 3d graphics (like desktop effects) in my
f14 main machine (with a nVidia Corporation G96 [Quadro FX 380]
graphics card in it), I wondered if anyone here has played with 3d
graphics (installing the mesa-dri-drivers-experimental package first)
and running with our open source nouveau driver rather than the
proprietary driver.
If anyone can report what performance has been like with
nouveau/mesa-dri-drivers-experimental on a machine with my card I
would be grateful - any reports with other nvidia hardware running the
open source drivers would be appreciated too. I know that a lot of
people participated in the graphics test prior to f14 release but I
wondered what experience showed now that quite a few people have been
running f14 for a few weeks and testing more extensively in day to day
use.
Thanks
