Dpkg does NOT use rpm db to check files to be ovewriten if they are already
exist in the system, dpkg does not make dependencies check.

Some time you need to prepare deb package, i.e. to distribute your own
software.

Globus on Fedora 14
by Abu Attar Musharih
Dear List,
Has anyone tried to build grid using globus downloadable from fc14?
I am in the initial stage of building grid environment using fc14 and
now need to know where the command set-simple-ca.
I used to compile and install the globus-5-0.1 from tar-ball before
for fc7 and noticed that
the command set-simple-ca was in the directory $GLOBUS_LOCATION/setup/globus/
Any idea?
Thanks,

"Alien" .deb converter to rpm in F14, how?
by Fernando Cassia
Has anyone managed to install "Alien" (the .deb to .rpm package
converter) in Fedora 14?.
I remember that back at the time when I ran FC7, I was able to install
it. However, I tried nowadays and it complains about some Perl modules
missing.
I tried following the directions here
http://content.hccfl.edu/pollock/AUnix1/alien/
If anyeone can try and give me a hand, I´d really appreciate it.
The reason for this? I want to create a RPM for jEdit (www.jedit.org)
from the provided .deb
Thanks in advance.
FC
PS: I apologize for not providing the detailed error message but I
don´t have my Linux system with me at this moment.

What is going on with Fedora mirrors today?
by Marcus Leech
Most of the mirror sites appear to be missing their Fedora mirrors this
afternoon--what's going on?
Trying to do an update of an F14 system, and most mirrors are returning
505/404 when YUM tries to fetch updates.
If I go in with my browser, I get the same thing. Fedora part of the
mirror simply *not there*.

iOS 4 AirPrint on F14
by SternData
Wow! It was pretty easy to get this going. We can now print from our
iPhones. (Whether that's a good idea is TBD.)
I used this site as a guide:
http://www.micromux.com/2010/11/22/airprint-for-mac-on-linux/
Here a a couple of Fedora specific tips:
1. Stop cupsd. Edit /etc/cups/cupsd.com and add "ServerAlias *" to the
file. Then remember to restart cups.
2. When copying the service files created from TJ Fontaine's script, be
sure to set their selinux context appropriately.
$ ls -Z /etc/avahi/services
-rw-rw-r--. sdstern sdstern system_u:object_r:etc_t:s0
AirPrint-Marilyn_HP.service
-rw-r--r--. root root system_u:object_r:etc_t:s0
AirPrint-PSC-2200-Series.service
-rw-r--r--. root root system_u:object_r:etc_t:s0 ssh.service
-rw-r--r--. root root system_u:object_r:etc_t:s0 udisks.service
3. Remember to restart avahi-daemon after putting the services files in
/etc/avahi/services
4. Make sure your firewall is open for incoming TCP connections on port
631, at least for your local network.
My experience is that I can print anything but images from the Photo
app. "Text" printing from mail and safari works well.

perl-DateTime-Event-Sunrise - F13?
by Jon Ingason
I can't find perl-DateTime-Event-Sunrise for F13. Is there an
alternative package for this in Fedora now?
It did exist in FC8 and older but seems to be missing from Fedora now.

cups printing - private job feature broken f13
by Genes MailLists
This used to work and now it doesn't. For printers which support
private jobs.
Under the printing window -> advanced - job storage
if you choose Private - the box to enter the pass key is gone.
It used to be you could choose private, enter a key - walk to the
printer (for those that support this like our enterprise printers) - and
choose the job on the printer and then enter the key from above.
Anyway - the 'key' field has disappeared - anyone else seeing this ?

Thanks Henrik, bui into rpmfusion the module witch I'm looking for there
is not.
I have found this howto:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/CustomKernel#Building_Only_Kernel_Modu...
And I have install the kernel source. Then I have extract the usbip
folder (/tmp/usbip-module/linux-2.6.34/drivers/staging/usbip/)
but I'm not able to build the usbip module, if I run :
% cd /tmp/usbip-module/linux-2.6.34/drivers/staging/usbip/
% make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd` modules
noting is build
Someone can show me how I can compile this module?
Many thanks
